Selina remembered his words when she went upstairs after dinner to collect a wrap to wear over her blue gown.
When she had been cooking, she had covered it with a large apron. The heat from the stove had brought the colour to her cheeks and loosened some little curls round her forehead.
She looked very young and lovely as she came down the stairs to where Quintus Tiverton was waiting for her in the hall.
“I should have taken you to the casino, where you would have caused a sensation,” he said, “rather than to a dull party where a lot of men will have eyes only for the piles of gold in front of them on the table.”
“I am happy as long as I can be – with you,” Selina answered.
