A Difficult Dilemma

After some pleasantries, Karna and Makrov finally got to Business. they both sat on the mat cross-legged across each other. Makrov said,

"Young Lord. as you know, Mages are divided into 10 Ranks and after that, Demi-God and The Godhood just like warriors. There might be only 10 ranks but there is an immense difference in strength between every rank which can only be crossed under special circumstances. There are three sub ranks In every rank, which are lower, mid, and high. to understand this better you can think that every rank has 100 levels. 1-30 is lower, 31-65 is mid, and 66-100 is high."

"I am a 5th Mid ranked Mage, this means that I need to cross 34 levels to reach 5th high rank. Now this may look easy but I will need perhaps a decade to achieve this, and that too when I have enough resources and funding even though I'm a genius."

"The strength between people of the same rank depends on their various skills and spells. and this is why usually the nobles and those who have influential backgrounds reign supreme in this world. Every Noble family has its own set of skills or spells which are unique to others. There are also some skills or spells which are common and used by lots of people. Do you have any questions?"

"Yes Teacher, is there no way for commoners to defeat nobles?" Karna asked,

Markov did not expect such a question but he replied anyways,

"That's the case usually, but do not underestimate them. Mages who do not have superior spells or skills have founded the 'Magic Union' which has a great deal of influence in the world. They research New Skills and Spells and by a merit system, any mage can have access to them. This has created a balance in power." Makrov said with a serious expression.

seeing no change in Karna's face he continued,

"There are also geniuses like me who create their own path with hard work and talent, there are those who have a greater Mana Affinity by birth, and there are those who create their own spells as well. Although, this applies to all, nobility and non-nobility. But because nobles have it easy they grow smug and only a few of them create their unique path."

"This is why you should remember not to underestimate anyone. Otherwise, you will die an early death." Makrov said with a stern tone.

Karna also became serious. he nodded and said,

"I understand, Teacher. There are many talented people In this world. But not many make it in the end. I will always be cautious."

Seeing Karna's wisdom, Makrov nodded in satisfaction.

"Alright, let's talk about the 'Class' between Mages. Just like Warriors can be Knights, paladins, Lancers, and swordsmen, there are different 'classes' in mages as well. There are 'Magic archers', 'Mage Knights', 'Dark Mages', 'Spirit Mages', Etc."

"There are also various professions like 'Alchemists' And 'Runemasters'. They need knowledge of Mana and Magic to some degree. Do not forget that even the Zarx family cannot afford to offend some of them. They are extremely valuable in any place, So do not look down on them. Even though they are not experts in fighting they have their own ways to protect themselves. They can also change tides of Wars, Do you understand?"

Karna nodded.

"Fine, This much knowledge is enough for the beginning. You will naturally know more with time. Now, let's talk about the path you should take. You have an option to become a full fledge mage who can use various Attack, Defense, or support spells, or you have the option to become a 'Mage Knight'."

And even after that, there is a chance that you will waste your talent and time by going after two things at once. Even if you manage to learn Magic, you cannot use spells in battle with sword arts. That's because it takes a lot of focus and calculations to cast a spell. Now, The choice is yours. I will give you until tomorrow to think about it. This choice will affect your future and your future is tied to a lot of people. So think it through"

Karna didn't know what to do. He did not like using the Sword, he was interested in magic because this was something completely new and mysterious to him. Realizing he was in a daze Karna said hurriedly,

"Teacher, I will think carefully and give you the answer tomorrow. Thank you for teaching me!"

"Hahaha, I had heard you were arrogant. It seems rumors cannot be trusted. Good! I will wait for your answer!" Makrov smiled, then stood up and left.

Karna however, stayed behind. He wanted to be a mage but did not know how to explain it to his father. Rudra was a good warrior and it would be weird if Karna suddenly said he wants to give up on the sword completely. But he could not do both either. Karna had absolutely no talent in swords. It could be said that he would most likely die if not for magic. It's not like he didn't try, He tried training with the sword according to Rudra's memory but no matter how hard he tried, he just couldn't do it.

He did not know at that moment that he would soon find a solution to his problem and that solution would shake the entire world one day. But that's a story for the future.

After staying for a few moments, Karna finally went back to his room.

- In Ron's office

"So, Makrov. How did it go?"

"Haha, The Young Lord is wise, I'm sure that one day he will shock the entire world! He is humble and accepted my advice without any arrogance. I'm sure he will not make many mistakes in his journey... but." Makrov suddenly furrowed his brows.
