Rosina was walking towards the carriage which was waiting for her, when she suddenly realised that there was a familiar figure on the other side of the road. It was Arthur Woodward. He was just coming out of a small, shabby house, and it seemed to her that there was something furtive in his manner. He turned sharply to the right and began walking down the street at a determined pace, as if it was important for him to reach somewhere quickly.
