They had been ready for the rogues. Caspian had called a meeting two days before the attack and they had come up with a plan. Set up a few traps all around their territory so that by the time the rogues arrived at their entrance, if they made it that far, only a handful of them would be left. The women and children were to stay in the pack house just in case. Being an Alpha, he didn't deceive himself into thinking there was a full proof plan. Which was why he'd instructed them to leave through the secret passage way if things went sideways. Who could have known that Marmon would bring hybrids? The traps had been nothing to the newly created creatures.
They'd walked out of the forest as if they were invisible. And maybe they were since he couldn't tell what else they were aside from rogue wolves. They seemed to be a mixture of wolves and vampires but there was more to them. They were unlike anything he'd ever seen. For a moment, he'd regretted sending his people to help out others. He had a pack to protect too. If anything happened to them, wouldn't the warriors he'd sent to Darkmoon resent him? But he couldn't abandon Brec. Besides it was too late to regret his decision. They'd decided to fight or die trying.
"Okay guys. Try to stay alive" he told the warriors. Sid, Saige, and Mueller were to his left while Evan and Enid were on the right.
"One more thing" Enid said then in a swift move, he had his fangs buried in Evan's throat. He was marking him, right in front of everyone. A few people cleared their throats but no one seemed to be surprised. Except Evan of course. As Enid took a step back, claps and cheers erupted "There, it's done. Yell at me later"
"Congratulations" Caspian said walking ahead. Since Enid had arrived two days earlier, Evan had done everything he could to avoid him. The i***t couldn't even look his mate in the eyes, which made him think something had happened in the office. Watching his beta blush had been the most cute and nauseating thing he'd ever had to witness. The sooner those two claimed each other, the better. Mating involved two wolves. Although Enid had taken the first step, it would be incomplete if Evan didn't mark him. It was a two way street. Maybe after they'd gotten rid of the rogues, everyone would have a new perspective on, well, everything. He himself had realized that being on top didn't mean he knew all there was to know. Like Brec, he was still learning a few lessons here and there.
"What else do you want Marmon? Didn't you take your supposed mate with you?" He asked stopping a few feet away from the entrance.
"We both know you didn't buy that s**t about Celeste being my mate"
He clenched his jaw because it was true. He hadn't bought it but since he wanted to get rid of Celeste, he'd let her go with that piece of trash "Where is she?"
"Oh don't you worry about her. She's not your problem"
"If you I find out you did anything to her...."
"First, you'll have to go through my boys here. Then I will tell you in detail what I did with that pretty little thing"
The thought of him laying his hands on her had his wolf seeing red. Through the pack link, he instructed his warriors to go for the heart. All living creatures, no matter how strong they were wouldn't continue living without a heart. Don't try to show off or test their strength. Kill as fast as you can. They all shifted into their wolf form before attacking. Caspian had one target and was saving him for his wolf. One of the rogues charged at him. He pretended not to see him until he was close enough then with his claws, he ripped through his chest, digging out his heart. They were faster and stronger but he was an Alpha. Since a part of them was wolves, he released his Alpha vibes, forcing them to acknowledge him. It worked for a second, which was all he needed to take them out. But when he thought they were winning, more hybrids filed in from every direction surrounding them.
"There's too many of them Cas" Evan said through the link "Retreat and come up with a new plan"
"No, I can't let Marmon get away"
"Now is not the time to be stubborn. We'll deal with...." From the corner of his eye, he noticed the arrival of Dannan. He barely had time to register he was with the crown prince and Celeste before more rogues surrounded him. Caspian acted on instinct. Shooting his hands out and plucking hearts as he went. There were three or was it four more. He threw a backward kick, getting the one behind him on the shin and taking out another heart. His hands were covered in blood and it was still not enough for his wolf. He wanted to come out and do the killing himself. However, he couldn't afford to be distracted for even a second. He had finished taking out his opponents when he noticed Celeste's figure marching across the field.
Where the hell was she going? Why was the Vampire King letting her go? Couldn't he see she was.... Heading towards him. For a witch, she sure was fast. In the blink of an eye, she had a rogue up in the air. He only realized the rogue had exploded when the pieces fell all around her. Surprisingly, not even of them touched her.
"f*****g focus!" She hissed spinning around. He grabbed her hand,
"Why are you here?"
"Don't mind me. Concentrate on saving your people. I will take care of Marmon and his minions" she raised her palm then in a slashing motion, took out a few heads. Yanking her hand from his hold, she spun around and headed in Marmon's direction, annihilating anything in her way. His wolf approved while he thought she was the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen. Jumping towards her, he shifted into his wolf, taking out anyone who tried to sneak up on her. Although, judging from the way she killed them, it didn't look like she needed his help. Marmon must have realized he was losing because he tried to run away. Caspian's wolf jumped in front of him, blocking his way.
--------------------
"I guess you really are stupid" Celeste said looking down at her hands then up at him. Caspian's wolf growled, baring it's fangs. It was magnificent with grey and black fur. Its eyes were different, one was amber, Caspian's natural eye color while the other was electric blue "You stay out of this" she told it when it advanced on Marmon. That i***t was hers to handle
"L.... Let's talk ab.... about this"
"No talking" A thin, teal blast of small waves appeared on her hands, creating claws of electric energy. She shot them at Marmon and the wolf cried out in pain "You're going to feel as if electricity is coursing through your veins and not in a good way. Your internal organs will burn one by one until nothing's left. Here's the catch, you won't die yet. Even when you're just a she'll, you'll still be alive and writhing in pain. I hope you rot in hell you son of a b***h!"
Seeing that their leader had fallen, the remaining rogues ran away. She turned to find Clarence holding one. Celeste sighed,
"Don't tell me you're planning on eating him"
He flashed his fangs "I don't eat trash"
"Then why isn't he dead?"
"I'll tell you when we get back. Let's go" Dannan said holding out his hand. The wolf standing beside her growled and started circling her.
"Change back if you have something to say" she stated. The sound of bones breaking and realigning themselves resonated in the air. Funny how she hadn't heard him change from man to wolf.
"Can you stay? I need you to heal a few of the guys who were injured"
"Why should I? You keep me when you feel like it and throw me out when you don't need me"
"Let's talk about that inside"
"You don't have to stay if you don't want to Celeste" Dannan injected and received another growl from Caspian "That's no way to treat someone who just helped you Black"
"I thank you for your help but this is between me and Celeste" turning back to her he pleaded "Please, if not for me then for them"
In truth, she had no plans of ever coming back to this pack. The idea was to leave Dannan's kingdom and resume the search for her mother. She would venture out to places she hadn't looked and if she didn't find her, try going to other worlds. But since she had ended up there, maybe it was fate. Or her desire to see the stubborn man standing in front of her. Celeste decided she would stay for a few days then leave. Giving Caspian a once-over, she walked to where Dannan was.
"Let's go"
"I think I'll stay for a few days"
"Okay, no problem. Let me know when you're ready to come back and I'll pick you up"
She shook her head "I won't come back. I'm going to continue looking for my mother. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for taking me in"
"I can..."
"Stay safe Celeste" Clarence spoke up before spinning around. Dannan nodded and followed him. She watched as they opened a portal then disappeared through it. Exhaling, Celeste whirled around and blinked at all the wolves standing there watching her.
"Aren't they going to change back?" She asked their leader
"Later. Thank you for staying"
"I didn't do it for you"
"Still, thank you"
"Where are the rest?" She wondered just as Isolde and the others appeared, each holding a pile of clothes. She smiled at them, happy that they were safe. Everyone smiled back except two. Isolde and Morgana. While the latter's attitude was understandable, she couldn't figure out why Isolde wasn't happy to see her. She walked straight to Caspian and handed him a robe.
"You're back" Ilya squealed running towards her.
"Yes. How have you been?"
"Bored, without you here. Does this mean you'll go back to sparring with Saige? You guys are so badass"
"Yeah. If she wants to"
"I'm always ready" the enforcer announced from somewhere in the crowd. Her eyes were looking for Saige when she noticed someone new.
"Who's he? I don't think we've met before"
"He's Enid. The rogue who warned us about the attack"
Her nostrils flared "He's one of them?" Pushing Ilya behind her, Celeste marched towards him only for Evan to jump out of nowhere and block her way.
"Hold it you nosy witch"
"f**k you, get out of my way. I can't believe you let one of those things in your pack. Are you stupid?"
"Who are you calling stupid young lady?" The rogue asked pushing Evan behind him.
"The i***t behind you. How dare you defend him? He's a rogue and Marmon's minion"
"First of all, watch your mouth. No one speaks to Evan that way and second, I'm no one's minion"
"Why am I even talking to you? Can you understand...."
"Stop it Celeste. Can't you see he's Evan's mate?" Isolde snapped. Celeste's eyes went round and she realized she wasn't the only one who didn't know. Half of the people gasped along with her.
"Mate?"
"Stop trying to cause trouble and do what you came here to do"
She clamped her mouth shut. The Isolde that was speaking to her wasn't the same woman she knew a month ago. Clearly things had changed while she away. Whatever had brought on the change?

Change? *Evil laugh*
Guys, I think the first arc of this story is over. Was Marmon's death satisfying? Or did you want more?
Now the fun begins. You ready?
