A day. She was gone for a day and his wolf wanted to tear everything in its way until it had her back. The thought of Celeste being with another man was driving him insane. How could she just leave with that stupid rogue? He should have insisted she stay. Didn't you want her to leave? A part of him asked. He had let her leave because he thought he was getting too attached to her. She had taken over his mind which was wrong. That spot didn't belong to her but to Isolde. So why did he feel so anxious? As if she was the one who truly belonged there? He'd mated Isolde. They were currently trying to have a pup and start a family. Why was he trying to ruin his life by going after a female witch he didn't know? Hadn't she acknowledged Marmon as her mate? His mark. She didn't bare his mark. That was the reason he was feeling unsettled. The bond between mates was so strong that most of them ended up marking each other at first sight. It wasn't necessarily them but their wolves who did that, as a sign of warning other males or females away. But there were some instances, very few of them, where mates didn't do that. He had never really thought of asking why but suddenly he was curious. Through the pack link, he asked Evan, "Do you know why some mates don't mark each other when they meet?" "I've heard of some who were already in love with someone else. Why?" "Nothing just...." "Are you still hung up on that witch?" "f**k off!" He snapped closing the link, knowing Evan was on his way to his office. Damn nosy bastard. Caspian considered jumping out the window then dropped the idea. He was an Alpha and he'd already done questionable things while Celeste was there. If he didn't go back to his old self, the members would start worrying. Already Kenia had approached him and asked if he was okay. He knew that she disliked Isolde so he'd used that to get her to leave him alone. It was one thing for them to know about his conflicted feelings towards Celeste and another to ask him about them. By setting his eyes on another woman, he'd already disrespected his real mate. Any more and he would truly hurt Isolde. She didn't deserve that. So whether he liked it or not, letting Celeste leave was the right thing to do. He squashed any nagging suspicions that tried to arise. Since that witch was confident she could take care of herself then he shouldn't waste his time worrying about her. "You have got to be serious Cas" Evan said barging into his office "That witch is gone and I will never allow you to bring her back here again" "Allow me?" His wolf came to the surface, ready to take it's anger out on the impudent beta "Let's go out to the field. I need to teach you a thing or two about the hierarchy of Prime Howlers" "I was stupid for making that comment but not stupid enough to start a fight with you" "Then leave" "Not before you promise not to bring her back. She doesn't belong here" "I wasn't planning on doing that" "That's good to hear. You shouldn't neglect Isolde for a nobody" Caspian got defensive "I haven't neglected her. What are you talking about?" "You're lucky to have a mate you can claim as yours. The rest of us...." He left that hanging. There was a strange expression in his eyes that told Caspian he'd missed something. "What? Are you hiding something from me?" "I wouldn't dare hide anything from my Alpha. I have to go, I'm busy" "All of a sudden you're busy? I'm honored you took your f*****g precious time out of your busy schedule to come and nag me" "You're welcome" he replied, ducking to avoid the pencil he'd aimed at him. However he wasn't fast enough the second time around. The tip grazed his cheek, leaving a long mark "I will find a therapist for you, seeing as you need anger management therapy" "f*****g close the door on your way out" he ground out. After he was gone, Caspian sat back wondering if he'd been neglecting the people around him. Before Celeste arrived, they had been preparing for to receive the other Alphas. Almost everyone had run around cleaning, making sure the pack was spotless and tightening security. Their place was like a small village where you knew who your neighbors were. The rest of the territory was a forest and plain land. Being the most powerful pack came with having the largest domain. But while they all enjoyed running on those grounds, no one liked cleaning it. He'd been so busy and after that Celeste had taken all his attention. Maybe he had overlooked some things. Despite his personality, Evan was a kind, gentle wolf who longed to find his mate and settle down. The more time went by, the desperate he got. Although he hadn't voiced it, Caspian knew he was scared of being alone. Maybe it was time he let his beta go out there and look for his other half. It was also time he got his head out of his ass and concentrate on the person next to him. At the end of the day, it was Isolde that would be beside him till the end. Not that witch with mysterious origins. "I need you" he conveyed to Isolde through the link. "Where are you? I'll be right there" He loved only her. She would drop everything she was doing because he'd told her he needed her. His wolf had liked that about her. The way she was submissive and ready to attend to him whenever, wherever. Bursting into his office, she asked "What's up?" Rounding the desk, he stopped in front of her, letting his eyes convey the way he needed her "Oh" she breathed lowering her gaze. Caspian took her chin between his thumb and index finger and raised her face "Focus on me. I want your eyes on me at all times" "Here? In broad daylight?" She queried "Yes. The sooner we have an heir, the better" he told her running his gaze down her body. She'd opted for a loose fitting dress held at the side by a pair of two strings. He pulled one of the strings, untying the knot. The material fell open, exposing her body. She was beautiful. He thought tearing her panties. Beautiful and ready for him. The smell of her arousal hit his nose making him harder than he already was. Placing his hands on her waist, he lifted her onto the desk then tore his pants off "I can't have enough of you my love" he rasped, positioning himself at her entrance and slipping inside her wet, slick folds. Just like that, everything clicked back into place and she was back to being his world. She groaned, resting her hands behind her. "Me too. You're like a drug I don't mind getting addicted to" "Oh yeah?" He grabbed her hips and pulled her to the edge then proceeded to thrust in and out of her until they both reached their fulfillment. When Isolde left the office, she had new marks and he had his sanity back. Caspian admitted his thoughts had strayed but all was well since he hadn't acted on them. Everything was going back to the way it used to be. And he wanted it that way. Wanted to love and cherish Isolde before that woman's arrival. Since he was in a good mood, he called Evan back to his office. "I'm giving you permission to leave and search for your mate" he announced. Whatever expectations he had were thrown out the window when Evan answered, "I didn't ask for it" Caspian blinked, taken back by the response "I was hoping for a big thank you. What's with the attitude?" "I know you're the Alpha but unless I ask for permission, you can't give it to me" "I thought you wanted to find your mate" "You thought wrong" "Did you change your mind?" "No" "What then? Have you found her?" "No" "If you're not going to tell me anything then get out of my office" he snapped, his good mood disappearing. It was so like Evan to s**t on his good intentions. Caspian watched him leave, knowing he couldn't force that asshole to talk if he didn't want to. Growing up they'd been caught sneaking out and Evan would rather take a beating than say where they had been sneaking off to. It was a good trait when it came to their enemies. If he was ever captured, Caspian would be rest assured their enemies wouldn't get anything from him. But when it came to their friendship, it was annoying. Later during dinner, Caspian observed him. He played around with the food on his plate then excused himself claiming he wasn't hungry. How long had he been acting like that? Did he just start or had Caspian been too absorbed in his problems to notice? Turning to Isolde, he asked, "Have you noticed Evan is acting weird? Or am I overthinking things?" She nodded "As a matter of fact I have. If I'm not wrong, it started after Celeste arrived" Caspian stilled "What?" "Yeah, remember that first morning during breakfast? That's when it started. They were talking then all of a sudden Evan got defensive. You even decided to interfere because you were afraid he was being rude. Remember?" He did. As if it had happened a few minutes ago. Evan had looked annoyed with Celeste so he'd stepped in, asking what was wrong. Celeste had said they were getting to know each other but the expression on Evan had indicated that was a lie. He had dropped it because he thought his beta was a gentleman and would never hurt her. Thinking about it now, Caspian wondered why Evan didn't like Celeste. Or maybe.... It was the opposite. He liked her but couldn't bring himself to admit it. His bad attitude could be because he was missing her.... No. That couldn't be it. But the more he thought about it, the more it made sense. He'd been there when they discovered she wasn't a child. How many times had Evan chided him for setting his eyes on the witch? Was he annoyed because he thought his Alpha was being unfaithful or because he wanted that woman? A thought crossed his mind making him shoot up from his chair. All eyes turned on him "Continue with your meal, I'm done" he said out loud. Through the link he commanded, "My office, Now!" He half ran, half walked to the part of the building where his office was situated. His anger boiling to a point where it blinded his vision. All this time he thought Evan was rebuking his actions because he cared about the well-being of the pack. If he had any conflicts with Isolde, it would affect the other members. They all needed a stable environment and an upright dedicated Alpha to thrive. But that wasn't the case. It turned out his beta had had his personal reasons. Why hide them? What was so bad about liking someone else? And if he was going to walk around sulking, why had he let her leave? Just what was going through that i***t's head? "What now? I told you I didn't need your permission" Closing the door, Caspian barked with an authority of a man who was not to be crossed "When were you going to tell me that you liked Celeste?" "What?" "No, let me rephrase that. When were you going to tell me that Celeste was your mate?" ***************************************** I.... Guys I don't even know what to say so I'll let you go first.
