CHAPTER 6 A Quiet Meal

1784 Words
OLIVIA It has been a month and Alexander had since left when he said I make him sick. Those were painful words he could ever tell me, and what hurts me most is that he went back to Nichole. Even if he did not tell anyone about his whereabouts, the media report made sure that we found out. He is always with her, and they are always seen going in and out of the hospital for Nichole’s check-ups. So, how everyone is seeing the situation is that my husband hates me his wife and loves his side woman. Every media company is hungry for the Walkers, and they all want to have a piece of us. I honestly have nothing more to offer; do they want to break me down even when I am already down? I cannot say that I was not prepared for this though. Alexander is a rich man and comes from a well-known noble family. The media knows about the family, and they make interesting highlights. Nowadays, the family is trending through my name. I am labelled as a men-stealer, and they think I separated a golden pair apart with a knife to have Alexander to myself. No one knew me or anything about me here in Brooklyn, but they moment they did, the found negativity in me and blurred out all the good that I have done. I am just coming from my morning walk, and as it has been for a couple of days, the news reporters are standing by the gate, and the guards are doing their best to prevent them from entering. The guards notice me coming, so they quickly open for me to let me inside the Walker property. “Mrs. Walker! Your husband is seen with Ms. Nichole Davis, and we know that he has been living with her. Would you like to comment on that!?” One of the reporters shout while photographers shooting best shots of me, but I do not dare to look back or respond. I enter the mansion so that I could go up to my room, but I cannot help but overhear one of the maids talking to Megan and Catherine in the dining area over breakfast. “I do not think that Alexander has any intentions to come back home for her. He seems happy with Nichole. It was on the news earlier and the pictures about them proved to be of recent. Here is the newspaper,” “That is outrageous!” Catherine exclaims, hitting the table. “This is happening because of Alexander and his stubbornness! Call him and tell him to come home,” “Mom, even if he agreed to come home – he won’t stop seeing the other woman. After all, he was the one who was wronged here,” Megan interjects. “Nothing good was expected out of your mouth, so just shut up! He is reckless because of you. You spoiled him to be careless as he is today,” “Mother!” Megan exclaims. “I taught him to be a man who can make his own decisions. He is doing exactly that, can’t you see?” “Yes, all the wrong decisions that were taught by you. It was not too hard to notice them,” Catherine sarcastically scoffs. Megan sighs, defeated and ask, “Where is Olivia anyway? She is the centre of this matter!” I clear my throat, walking in further and smile. “Good morning,” I quietly say. “I just got back from my morning walk. I am quickly going to take a shower upstairs, and I will be back a little late for breakfast. Do you need anything before I leave, grandma?” Catherine smiles and shakes her head. “I do not want you to do anything until you fully recover. If you can take care of yourself, that is good enough for me,” Abd that is what I have been doing. I am a doctor and I advise patients to take care of themselves, so I do not see anything hard about taking my own advice. I also know better now than to take things that are badly said about me to heart. *** I spent the rest of the day watching TV and sleeping, but that is all I do, and it is tedious. I miss my life in Rochester and my work, but this is my new life and until I get back on my feet, I will endure staying here. It is almost dinner time, so I head downstairs to see what I can do. It cannot be much for Catherine to say no. I notice that the dining table is not set yet, so I offer to do the honour and prepare it with cutleries, but the maid brings an extra plate. I frown and look at her with a questioning look. Are we expecting a guest? “Alexander finally agreed to come. Madam Megan called him and made and excuse about grandma being sick. He has a soft spot for her, so he is probably on his way right now,” I quietly nod and put his plate on the table. Catherine and Megan came and took their seats, and just before I could, I hear his voice speaking outside. My heart races, but looking at Catherine’s anxiety disappearing from her face, I am instantly calmed by her soothing smile. I bet she is happy that Alexander really came. He stepped into the house and walked up to us. He greets his family and kisses his grandmother on her cheek. “Grandma, why are you here? Should you not be in bed having dinner from there? Why would mom let you come down here, come on, let’s go, now,” It melts my heart to see him care so much about his grandmother. It just hurts because I look so invisible to him; he is completely ignoring me. “No, I am completely fine. I just wanted you to come home because I missed you a lot,” Catherine confesses. Alexander’s face turns sour before he looks at me deadly. Only now does he recognise me because he cannot look at anyone but me with rage. “You! This was your idea, wasn’t it? Did you have to use my grandmother this time?” He aggressively asks. I sigh and take my seat without having to explain myself to this ridiculous accusation. “It is time to eat, Alexander,” I say. I notice that the maid forgot to bring extra silverware for Alexander, so I asked her to bring it. Alexander growls, irritated by me. “I have no time for these games. I am leaving,” He threatens. “Sit down!” Catherine orders, but it falls into deaf ears, and he starts walking away. “Alexander, get back here! Are you trying to make me angry? This was my idea; Olivia had nothing to do with it. You have been gone for a month and refused to come back home. What was I supposed to do to get you here?” Alexander had no words to say. He reluctantly turned back with a tail between his legs and sat down next to me. “Good! Now we are all going to sit down and have a quiet meal together as a family,” And we did exactly that. It was so quiet and the only thing that did the talking was forks and knives hitting against the plates. The silence is deafening, and the atmosphere is so thick I swear I could just take a knife and slice through it. I cannot wait for dinner to be over. “I hope you are not planning to leave after having dinner because you are not going anywhere. You will be sleeping in tonight,” “But…” Alexander wanted to disagree, but Catherine raised her finger, stopping him. Catherine got up and walked away, leaving us with his mother. She was done eating her meal. “You must be proud of yourself. You are even going as far as using my old lady to drill your way deep into my family, but nice try because I will never sleep with you, Olivia,” Megan spitefully laughs and claps once. “Mother, I do not know why you care so much about this foreign girl. Why are you lying about your health to lure my son here? He has been through a lot and does not deserve more than that. Have mercy on him,” I purse my lips and bizarrely look at Alexander. Even though he is too much, he is too full of himself I sometimes wish to slap it out of him, but I won’t. If I hurt him, he would make sure I get hurt ten times more than he did. “You might think grandma is doing all of this because of me, but she actually cares about you a lot too. Why don’t you just sleep comfortably here. You look like you were not contented, and you have lost a lot of weight too,” “You have no right to say bullshit about me!” He said, aggravated and got up before leaving. I sigh, also getting up. “Alexander!” Megan shouts, running after him, but he does not respond or look back. “Tell the guards not to open the gate for him!” Catherine commands. Nothing and no one can stop Alexander when his mind is made up. I make my way upstairs to take a bath in my room – a room which is big with a gigantic bed big enough for me and my husband, but I have been sleeping alone in this loneliness. The door suddenly opens after I get out of the water. I quickly grab the robe, but it falls into the water in the bathtub, so I grab a very short towel and try to wrap it around my body with him watching me, but it also falls to the floor because I am scared, and my hands are uncontrollably trembling. I feel so embarrassed, and my heart is racing. I feel uncomfortable. “Alex! I thought you left! Why are you back!?” I exclaimed, shakily, trying to cover my naked body with my hands. “Oh? Is this not what you wanted?” He asks, stepping forward towards me. I walk back, only to bump against the cold wall with my back. His tall frame stood in front of me and looked down at me. Oh, God. How will I get away from this?
