CHAPTER 4 Mother

1751 Words
OLIVIA CARTER The nurse rushed inside the room when my fellow roommates shouted for help. Nichole’s mother is as strong as an ox, and I am so weak to fight her off me. I know right now my stitches are off by the blood dripping. The doctor tries to pull her off me, and just then, Alexander walks in, holding hands with a woman whom I believe is Nichole. Nichole quickly let go of Alexander to come and help the nurse get her mother off me. I moaned in pain as the nurse helped me get on the bed and she instantly attended to me. “Mom, please do not blame Olivia. It is my life after all,” Nichole states. Her mother is shaken because she was not aware that Alexander and Nichole would walk in on her. Brittney starts crying, making herself the victim, yet she is not even the one who is bleeding and in agony. I cannot even stand how Alexander is trying to comfort her now. I could puke right now. Nichole smiles at Alexander and asks to talk to him. Alexander thought she needed to talk in private, but she looked and me and started. “You too are already married, so I better to accept it now rather than later,” She says in a heavy tone. “What are you talking about, Nichole?” Alexander’s tone gets deeper. “I am talking about you two. I am wishing you both a long happy life together,” “Nichole, no!” Alexander yells and frowns and looks at me. His eyes have darkened and jam-packed with rage. Why does he get so angry by just looking at me? “She does not deserve to grow old with me,” I gasped, looking directly at him. My pupils have constricted and what makes me nervous more is that everyone is looking at me right now like I am the delinquent here. “Enough! You have said enough, so please get out and leave me alone!” I cry out loud. “Olivia,” Nichole stands next to my bed. “I do not mean any harm. I was sick for quite a long time, and I still have a weak system which might take even longer to be healthier and stronger. I do not want to weigh Alexander down with my health. So, take him and take care of him for me until I get better and much stronger in the future,” What does that even mean? When I am settled and comfortable with Alexander, she would come back and take him away from me; is that what she means? Who or what does she take me for? “Are you being sincere or mocking me, Nichole?” I ask, platonically. “How can you ask me that when I am only trying to make peace between us? What I am trying to tell you is that, Alexander and I grew up together, and even if we proceeded with our relationship, I am not sure how it was going to work out between us,” “Why so suddenly? It does not make sense, Nichole,” She is offish, as if she is trying to run away and hide something. “You are married. You… you are married to Alexander,” She says in a low tone. Her voice slowly and repeated the phrase in my head as if I heard it before. Suddenly, I remember a bit of last night. I think a woman came and visited me while I was heavily sedated. I could hear her talk and she sounded so much like Nichole. Could she be the one who found my marriage certificate and sent it to the media? “You are the one who told the world, were you not?” Her eyes wandered around like a mouse that stole cheese and ran off. “I… I do not know what you are talking about,” She says, panicking. I look quietly at her face with dim light in her eyes. “You are lying. You stole my marriage certificate, snapped it, and sent it to your sources, that is why you want to run away now,” I push hard to expose her. “Stop accusing her. She didn’t do it!" As expected, Alexander defends her. So, is her mother. “We can check the surveillance footage to prove if I am wrong!” I announce. Nichole’s body stiffens, and she starts having a seizure-like symptom before she faints. What a performance! If I was not in pain, I would sit upright and clap hands for her brilliant act. Now that has happened, what ever the doctors and nurses are doing must stop and everyone must focus on Nichole because Alexander said so. The whole ward is like on fire because Alexander’s rage is like a bonfire. “If anything happens to Nichole, you will be sorry. You will suffer the worst pain,” Alexander makes sure to threaten me before he leaves with Nichole in his arms. “Don’t worry. She will wake up as soon as she gets away from me. She is fine,” I smile as they all left me. Now that everyone knows about my existence, I think I should thank Nichole for making my existence known to the public and for who I am. In less than ten minutes, the nurse who was attending to me got back and told me that Nichole had woken up almost immediately when they reached her ward, and all she could say was how much she wanted to bless me and Alexander. As if I asked for her blessings. I also found out that she kicked Alexander out and told him to never come back. Is this just for a show and for people to talk about, or she is truly being sincere? *** It has been a peaceful week since after the show Nichole blessed us with. I have been recovering so well, but I think that is because I haven’t seen Nichole, Alexander, or Nichole’s mother ever since. It saddens me that I am all alone, and Alexander does not care about me, but I will do anything to stay strong and alive right now. I was discharged from the hospital this morning, and the first place I decided to stop at was the Walker mansion. I was allowed inside very easily because the guards probably know me from the media that I am Alexander’s wife. I cannot say that I am not nervous about being here, but my home is five hours away and I still need to fully recover before I can make that long-distance travel again. The maids let me inside, and boy, oh, boy, Alexander’s mother, Megan is standing in the foyer with her arms crossed like a dragon lady. As I nervously look at her, she pulls the corner of her top lip as if she is disgusted by me. I must admit, I do not look my best right now, but I am only coming from the hospital, so that should be understandable. “Mother,” I softly say in respect. “You dare to call me your mother after so much shame and disrespect you brought into my family. Do you think you will be happy and anything good will come out of this twisted marriage?” I am exhausted, and the last thing I want to do is disrespect Alexander’s mother. I look down and avoid her hot gaze without responding, but little did I know that my silence would make her angry. “That marriage certificate is just a piece of paper. Do not think that I will ever accept you into my family because you do not fit in; you just don’t belong here,” Her words felt like a knife piercing through my heart. I swiftly look up at her calmly, solemnly, and firmly. “The marriage certificate that you call just a piece of paper is enough for me. I know that Alexander and I are married, and that is just enough for me. I do not care whether I can or cannot get into the Walker mansion,” I state, serenely. “It makes me wonder. If my son was not the next heir of this family, would you have married him?” The tone of disdain shoot straight into my ears, and I immediately gave birth to anger. “You are not me. How would you know the answer to that?” She also married into the Walker family. She knows why she married into the Walker family because if she did not, her son would not even be the heir of the Walker family. Honestly, I wish Alexander was never even part of this family… but just my Alex. “You are too ambitious for my liking. You disrespected me and brought shame to our family. Do you think we will want to accept you after that? Do not embarrass yourself; just go away and leave my family alone!” With that said, the maid brought a cane and gave it to her. It's not an ordinary cane, it's an ancestral family law of the Walker family. Just looking at the colour, I don't know how many generations of the Walker family have contaminated it with their blood. Even with that, I am not fazed when I should be running for my life. My heart starts thumping out of my chest when Megan steps towards me. Just when I finally want to make a run, it is already too late. She strikes me on my lower back, close to where I was operated on. I scream so loud when the bone-chilling excruciating pain travels all over my body, and my eyes instantly burn with tears. “Did you think it was easy to marry into rich and powerful families? Well, welcome to the life you want!” As she said that, she stroke me again on my back, and I fell to the floor, whimpering in agony. I think I triggered my wound because it has started to pain so much. If she hits me one more time, I might as well die because I cannot hold up anymore. “Mr. Walker is back, Ma’am,” The maid quickly announced with panic. I cannot say I am happy, but I am glad he is back because he saved my life.
