With the refreshing breath of wind trooping in and out of the car as we drove home, my gaze was fixed out the window. It was already 7am when I sneaked out of the hotel and met Audrey at Club Vortex.
I had a smile written boldly on my face as I continued to fantasize about the moments I had with the stranger. Our connection felt real and genuine like we’ve known each other for a long time. The bond I felt towards him was something I had not felt all my years together with Liam.
He is literally everything I wanted in a man. I could still perceive his cologne as he made love to me. Every thrust he made was like pleading for an entrance to my soul. He really was skilled at it and blessed with his long pecker which surely is every girl’s wish.
“Hey Carl! … What are you smiling at? you naughty egg” Audrey, my cousin inquired, bringing me out of my fantasy as she tapped on my laps.
“Was he that good that you can't get your mind off him?” My cheeks turned red and I blushed.
“C’mon girl, it’s only a one-time deal, you will be married in few hours”. She continued, her words brushed off the smile I had all over my face.
“Really? There was no need to remind me”, I scolded and Audrey scuffed.
“Don’t worry darling, I believe Liam will make a good husba…”
“That’s enough already, I really don’t know why uncle wants me to get married when I'm obviously far from being ready, I mean, I just started having fun, Liam will basically monitor my every move as his wife even while he is out busy in the arms of another woman”. I hissed.
Despite the pleasure I had, my mind was filled with guilt on what had happened the night prior. Should I have done that? What if he happens to be a friend or relation to Liam? Even If Liam is a chronic cheat, I wasn’t supposed to do that to him on the night of our wedding, I owed him my virginity at least. Not giving it to a total stranger, someone I….
Audrey tapped me as we were home already. We got down and tried to sneak in without uncle noticing.
“Carina!!” Uncle called out as he approached us from the side of the house.
“Where the hell have you been?”
“Have you been drinking? It's your wedding today for Heaven’s sake, where have you been?” He asked, his eyes moving left and right as he peered at us.
His questions continued trooping in as I rolled my eyes in frustration.
I've had enough of him and finally happy I am living, even if Liam is such an asshole, at least he wouldn’t nag me all day like uncle always had.
“Dad! I think we should start getting set for the big event now, this can wait for later” Audrey pleaded.
“Fine! You two go in and get ready, make sure you do not take forever to get dressed” And as for you, he turned to face me as I was about to take a step into the house.
“The designer and makeup artist are in the living room waiting for you, take your shower quickly and get dressed”.
“Yes sir!” I nodded and proceeded into the house up to my room.
Uncle gave me a dead look as we walked into the house, I have always wondered why he hated me, if for anything, he should be not just an uncle to me but also a parent, I miss them so much and wished that accident never happened or I should have been with them and we’ll all leave together. Rather than staying and feeling like a burden to someone who clearly does not even care even after taking over my father’s business, what more does he want?
We made our way into our rooms and the atmosphere smelled like roses, truly indicating that there’s a wedding.
“Carina! where have you been?” Anna, my best friend and only source of happiness at the moment, called from the hallway running towards me as she pulled me into an embrace.
“Anna!” My face lit up and my heart filled in joy as I took her in my arms.
“Thanks for coming” I exclaimed as we pulled away from each other and entered the room.
“It’s almost 9am, go take a quick shower. She said as she sat on the bed”
“You look like you got laid last night. She winked at me mockingly while I laughed and got in the bathroom.
I wobbled in and out of the shower. I needed to look gorgeous today even if I wasn’t happy with the whole marriage thing.
The stylist and designer were already in the room and Anna had already left.
I finally got dressed and I stared keenly at the mirror in front of me with mixed emotions, confident in my appearance yet not pleased at what transpired earlier.
How can I explain this to Liam? What if he somehow discovers? Uncle will have my neck. I mumbled not noticing when Anna walked in but I was cut off in my thoughts by her reassuring words.
“You look stunning my dear” she blushed and I gave a low smirk in return, staring down my dress.
Audrey entered already dressed in an evening dress, her eyes were beaming with joy.
“You look soooo beautiful, cousin!" She exclaimed, drawing me into an embrace.
“Shall we?” Anna said cheerfully, leading the way as we all made our way out of the room into uncle’s car.
Uncle Tim drove us down to the wedding venue at the Doween’s enclosure. The priest, Liam and our guest had arrived before us, we truly arrived late. The hall was tastefully decorated, and our guests had taken their seats.
With my uncle by my side, it was time to head into the hall and a serene melody began to play as my uncle and I entered. Everyone turned to face us, scowling, with some smiling, some taking pictures, and the others remaining unfazed.
With his hands crossed below his waist, just above his thighs, Liam stood beside the priest, facing us. He wore a black pants and a blue suit.
I couldn't help but reflect on what had happened the night before on the sight of him. I had not strayed on him since our first date, so I felt terrible for betraying him on the night of our wedding.
Uncle Tim handed me over to him, and we looked intently into each other's eyes while he chuckled at me. His face had the same innocent expression as the day he asked me to be his girlfriend. He lifted my hands towards himself as he moved over, placing a kiss on them, and then letting them drop.
“Where did you drop your phone? I’ve been calling”, Liam asked whispering in my ears.
“I-I…, I was out with Audrey” I stammered. He looked at me in doubt as I couldn’t hide my uneasiness.
“Are you okay? Do you want to tell me about it?” He prompted.
This was the chance I had to explain to him but no I didn’t, “no! Everything’s fine babe, people are watching”. I knew he wasn’t satisfied with my response and would query me about it later but I acted like nothing happened.
The ceremony began and the priest proceeded, "You can all take a seat now."
“Before we start, if anyone knows of any reason why this couple shouldn't be joined in holy matrimony, please share your thoughts now or remain silent indefinitely”.
My pulse raced quickly at this time, and I was starting to feel nervous. What if that jerk was here, what if someone spotted us, what if someone saw me walking in and out of the hotel? I was left with questions running through my mind. Still, no one altered a word.
“In the absence of none, Let's enjoy a quick clip of the couple's beautiful moments together”. The priest continued, gesturing to Jaden, Liam’s brother.
I put my right hand on my chest and sighed with relief as Liam held my hands and we turned to look at our beautiful memories. Jaden definitely put it together at Liam’s request.
The hall abruptly became extremely high, as our guest started murmuring, something was wrong. I moved my head away from them towards the screen to see what it was.
My jaw dropped as the screen aired a scene of me locking lips with that stranger at the club.
