Henry was surprisingly amenable to Edie spending a few days in the high peaks with only Jones for company. Edie had thought he might demur. However, he was busy helping Bennett and his covey of lieutenants with their measuring and notations and seemed quite disinterested in their mission to document flora.
“You go, Edie, I’m perfectly happy here with Carruthers. You’ll be quite safe for a few nights with Jones. You’re going off the beaten track and no bandits will be lying in wait for passing travellers on the higher, less used trails.
