Chapter 6: Finding Pater’s Jacket Jones shivered. It was much cooler even just inside the mouth of the cave than it had been out in the sunshine, even though it was still early in the morning. She shivered for another reason too. The air felt wrong, somehow. Heavy. What had Pater been doing here? Did she remember this cave? She didn’t think so. She couldn’t even really remember the little flat scoop of land outside. Only the tumult and trauma of the attack on Mama and clinging to Dechen in the firelight afterward. The tinder struck easily and she held the lamp up high, so it cast ghoulish shadows on the floor around them.
