Chapter 5: The Caves at Kargil Edie allowed her mind to drift. She focused on the petals of the flower in front of her, engrossed in the way the bright pink shaded from pale to deep from the bottom to the tip of each long petal. She concentrated on laying the watercolour paint on the paper with delicate, accurate strokes, filling in the faint pencil outline she had drawn before starting with colour. The rhododendron forest was beautiful. The trees were in full flower now that summer had arrived. The twisted limbs protected their tents from the cold wind that whipped around sometimes after dark. They were camped in a clearing. The enormous flowering trees towered over the tents; aged, gnarled limbs covered with blossoms so beautiful and so diverse that she didn’t know where to start with
