THE HARD EARTH TREMOR had taken Teresa and Huacman completely unaware. Both were thrown on the ground and it took a while to the women to be able to stand, affected by a momentary dizziness product of the earthquake. Immediately they went outdoors with the purpose of resuming contact with the everyday reality in a more familiar way. It took awhile before they could calm their minds, although both came from countries with long seismic tradition. A couple of minor seismic movements still went by, simple aftershocks after the previous broader movement. When Teresa had already gained her normal temple, they heard shots coming from the jungle in front of them.
