“Wait, Slaine,” Chaos said, frowning as they looked across the room, and their blood-red eyes landed on Slaine, who stared blankly at them. “What happened afterwards?”
Wing stared at Chaos; even though he knew they were a deity, they looked unnatural. They were very handsome, but something about them didn’t seem right the more you stared at them. Otherworldly, even. Their long pale hair contrasted with their very dark skin, and the red jewel that was embedded in their chest glowed underneath their cream robes; he could see it. And their blood-red eyes, something about having dark skin, white hair and red eyes seemed like a lethal combination that drew everyone around them to them.
Slaine had been silent for a few minutes, and then his eyes landed on Sion, and he shrugged. “Nothing of note.”
“That’s not true; you were-”
“Elizabeth, if you want to continue living your undead life, you best shut the f**k up,” he snapped, his purple eyes narrowing on the blonde-haired woman.
“Slaine, I don’t like your tone,” Rosalyn said. “Watch how you speak to my f*****g fiance.”
“Wait, holy s**t, you’re f*****g engaged?” Jem asked, eyes wide as he turned to stare at his sister with wide eyes.
“Yeah, but that’s not important right now. Slaine-”
“I don’t want them to know; I don’t see why I have to go spilling everything,” Slaine snapped, crossing his arms over his chest as he interrupted Rosalyn with a scowl.
“I get that, but you can’t just-”
“Okay, can you not?” Jasper said, frowning. “Rosa, she-”
“Don’t you take sides, Jasper,” Jem snapped, frowning. “Good old Liz was just asking a question.”
“The gods were irritated,” Chaos said, sighing as they rubbed the bridge of their nose, causing the attention to fall onto them. “I apologise for interrupting, but the arguing was getting quite childish. But that is all I know. The Greeks were annoyed, so they called a Pantheon Plus meeting, and with Death gods being very limited, and when Thanatos happened to be free, it happened very quickly.”
“I’m sorry, Thanatos?” Wing asked, his eyes wide. Yes, of course. If Chaos, a literal deity, was standing off to the side, it made sense other Gods existed, hell, even Death gods. This was very f*****g normal.
“Yes, the Greek god of the Dead.”
“Panethon Plus?” Jasper asked, his head c****d.
“Yes, Pantheon Plus. Think of all the religions, their deities and then some.”
“So, every single god and goddess is in one room?” Rosalyn asked.
“Of course not. Each Pantheon sends a representative.”
“Stop getting off track,” Blue snapped, irritated. “Why was there a meeting?”
“The prophecy. The one you all seemed to be entangled in. It had come too early. Some pantheons were concerned about the balance of the universe. This prophecy, which decides the universe's fate, has caused the fates to worry. And the fates never worry.”
“Why?”
“The prophecy that causes the world to end, well, it shouldn’t occur. The world has thousands, if not millions, of years left before its time. It has adapted and seems to have honed in on the people in this room.”
“I thought prophets couldn’t change.”
“They cannot. However, they can adapt in a way. For example, my falling. It may have been something or someone else who fell, but it had adapted with the focus on everyone here, so it foretold my falling instead.”
“So, someone is forcing the prophecy to come to fruition. Someone who knows about it,” Micah said. “Interesting. I can work with that.”
Wing frowned when the realisation dawned on him. “Sion’s journal was found in Rex Superno’s personal library. Cairo had complained about how nerve-wracking it was to get his hands on it. It was held in the most guarded place.”
The room quietened as what Wing said washed over everyone with a cold chill.
