“Mia?” Damien asked carefully, reaching a hand to cup her face and Aneela melted to his touch as she leaned into him for leverage.The swirl of emotions battling inside her dark amber eyes looked like they were invading her all at once and seemed like they were going to knock her down.
“It’s not working,” she whispered and Damien was not sure who she was talking to, him or herself. “I thought… I believed them, deep down. I mean… I prepared for the worst option but I still hoped that…”
