THE SURROGATE

CHAPTER 16

The next day, Friday. Shaina as usual is busy doing her work when she was suddenly called to the Manager's office.

"Ms. Hernandez I'm not going to beat around the bush but we're sorry to inform you but I'm afraid that we have to let you go."

Shaina blinked. Then blinked. She couldn’t understand what she's hearing. They were firing her? But... "W-why?"

The manager looked at her with pity. He knew how hard working this woman was but unfortunately she was caught up in the middle of fighting of the higher ups.. "This reports were personally made by you, correct?" He asked while tossing a bunch of papers in front of her.

Shaina felt numb but she still force her hands to move. She shakily took the papers and was surprised to see the reports and projects she's been doing for a month now. She weakly nodded her head, then softly said. "Yes Sir. But I couldn't understand. Did I do something wrong?"

"Ms. Hernandez the IT department found an email under your name selling this exact projects to our rival company."

Shaina felt her world crumbles. "But... But Sir I never sold any information. It's impossible... I... I..."

Shaina might be in distress but she knew in her heart that she's just a scapegoat. Her reports were delicate in nature. She knew that someone might have done it and she was just being used as a scapegoat.

It's so unfair...

Disregarding her pride, she begun crying and begging her manager to not dismiss her. She must keep working.

She and her son cannot live if she loses her job. Where will she get their living expenses then?

Her Michael is still small, his kindergarten tuition fee is ridiculously expensive, his body is weak and usually get sick, his medicines are expensive too, plus their living expenses, there’s no way she can get fired now.

The Manager seeing her pleading so much, cannot help but feel moved. Honestly, she is an excellent employee, even if she’s the only woman in her department, she wasn’t a burden and hasn’t lost to anyone. At work, she has always been diligent and treats the work conscientiously.

However, this time, because of this incident, the higher up are very unhappy and decided to fire her. He doesn’t have a choice, he has no authority to keep her from working.

So, even though she is pleading very desperately, it’s still futile. They still fired her in the end.

After that, she simply packed up her things, then left the company. Several staff members learned that she got fired, some of them are happy and some expressed worries.

Some of them think that her being fired early was better because ever since she joined the company, she immediately took away their promotion opportunities.

She has excellent abilities, looks outstanding, the Manager likes her hard working attitude, so she got a lot of the number of bonuses for being the perfect worker. So when they found out that she's fired her other colleagues felt relieved, and simply thought that it will be much easier for them now.

But for some other colleagues that she gets along with, they felt sorry for her and told her to stay in contact with them.

Shaina left the company in low spirits. She was holding her stuff but her mind was full of worries. She keeps walking absentmindedly and crosses the road but unfortunately she didn’t see the red light started flashing.

On the road, A man was driving fast suddenly got distracted.

A loud ear-piercing brake sound could be heard, it’s sharp sound pierced Shaina's ears, but she couldn’t react fast enough, she knew it was too late.

The speeding car almost hit her but it still knocked her down on the ground. The skin on her knees got scraped, and she grimaced when she felt an incredible pain, she really thought she's gonna die.

Her stuff scattered all over the ground, but everything come to stand still when she lifted her head and saw a very luxurious high-end Porsche car. She tried looking at the driver but her vision gradually blurred the more she look at that person sitting in the driver seat.

Shaina suddenly remembered that she had seen this sports car in a magazine, it said to be one of the world’s limited brand, and there are only three that exist in the world!

Her skirt got torn from the friction when she got knocked down on the ground and she felt more burning pain now that the dust sticks on her wounds and it keeps bleeding.

Shaina’s eyes got teary, she doesn’t know if it’s because of the pain from her wounds or what, but she can not stop her tears from falling her rosy cheeks. She just felt sad and miserable.

She started recalling her whole life. She has always been in helpless situations, and now she lost her job, She really doesn’t know what to do.

She cried out all her depression from the bottom of her heart. The injustice treatment of life to her for a long time ago adding up the recent events. She’s tired from all of it, it’s too much to bear.

Luca always tells her that during the difficult time, she just have to keep smiling. Even a small child knows this truth, but she also knows how to do it well! It's just this time around, she's afraid she could not do it.

After remembering her son, she couldn’t really stop her tears again!

And even though she felt so embarrassed by the situation, she still sits on the ground and keeps sobbing!

The Porsche engine finally stopped and the door opened. A pair of expensive shoe steps on the ground.

Maxwell Fontana elegantly moves out from his car and closed the door. Not far from him, he saw the woman in a white dress sitting on the ground motionless, her head was downcast and she was covering her face with her hands.

The girl looks very young, about twenty years old or so, looks a bit thin, with a simple dress, her supple black hair was slightly messy and loosely covering her shoulders.

She’s wearing a not eye-catching dress, but it did not lessen her beauty, but rather adds a hint of delicate beauty, that will make one’s heart and soul pity her

Maxwell's eyes narrowed. Somehow, seeing this girl crying, his heart suddenly felt aggrieved, he felt she’s a bit familiar like he has seen her before.

But now she lowered her head, even more, so he can’t clearly see her appearance.

Maxwell frowned, then he approached her, and gracefully squat down in front of her, he slightly moves down, glanced coldly on her knee injury. He sees her white slender legs with a touch of scarlet bright red blood sliding down along her legs.

He stared at her, his eyes looked around her whole body but found no other injuries.

Fortunately, the injury is not serious, just some scraped from her skin, but she’s crying sadly like she had experienced the greatest injustice in the world. He really doesn’t know why exactly she’s crying ah!

He's originally in a very bad mood, and with this incident, he become more displeased. He has the habit of speed racing on a mountain road when he is in a bad mood, but he's not paying attention on the road until he gets close and steps on the brakes at once. Fortunately, there’s no big accident.

Seeing her tears keep flowing in silence, Maxwell doesn’t want to waste more time, so he took out his wallet and a few thousand bills, and he hands it over to her expressionlessly.

For him, using money to solve the problem, is not an issue. He just wanted to clean up this accident as soon as possible.

Shaina slightly lifts her eyes, that slender fingers, clear knuckles, flush clean trim nails, ring finger wearing a diamond ring, with just one look, you’ll be able to recognize that this man has a noble identity.

Seeing his hand giving her money, she couldn’t help but to get surprised and actually forget to cry.

He sees her staring in silence, so Maxwell thought she was not satisfied with the amount of money he'd given her so he frowned at her, “Is it not enough?”

He has never seen such a greedy person before. He actually assumed that this girl can’t get enough of the amount he is giving.

He did not bring too much cash as a habit and just used his cards, so his wallet only has a few thousand dollars in it, but he thought, isn’t it more than enough to used to treat her wounds?

Shaina got stunned by his behavior. However, in the eyes of this man, he obviously had changed the meaning of her reactions.

This woman seems to be more greedy than he imagined.

Maxwell smile, but his smile was cold and full of mockery. He then pull out all the cash in his wallet, and whether she want it or not, he doesn’t care. He doesn’t want to spend more time with her, seeing her without a pocket, he then rolled the money and shoved it in her deep cleavage which had been exposed when she fall to the ground and her dress were stretched out.

His cold fingertips touch her delicate skin and his ambiguous movements made Shaina very shocked, she slightly raised her face, though some of her hair covered her eyes she could still see the man’s lips with an evil awe-inspiring smile.

She is shocked at first when she saw how handsome he is. He's like a prince in a fairy tale, with shiny blonde hair and deep blue eyes. But his eyes were cold and he is he looking at her with pity?

She suddenly felt very wrong, and her anger pour out in her eyes!

The next moment, she felt even more surprised. The man took out his signature pen and write a bunch of numbers on her chest. “If it’s not enough, call this number.”

This aggressive behavior, Shaina really wanted to punch his handsome face! This action of him, really intended to humiliate her!

“Sir, what do you mean? that you are very rich?” Her eyes were sullen and her voice was furious. “You injured a person, did not apologize, and yet you just want to solve it with money?”

Shaina is not an unreasonable person, she also knew that she is partly at fault for walking absentmindedly and did not look at the traffic lights, but he was so arrogant, shoving a money into her chest? How could she not get angry?!

Therefore, she stared at him coldly. But he didn’t say any more words.

So Shaina pulled out all the money from her chest, her other hand reaches out to pull his wide palm, and she shoved the money with forced into his hands!

Shaina raised her face at that moment, her pair of watery mist eyes look straight at him and Maxwell’s cold smile suddenly got stiff, his eyes dilated a bit in his surprise, then he deeply narrowed his eyes.

This girl?! This woman... Isn't she that girl from six years ago?!!
