“I would like to see the new owner,” Joanna began. “But perhaps he is busy at the moment.” “No, I thinks he’ll be glad to see you,” the servant replied. “Will you please come in, miss?” Joanna had left her carriage in the possession of her driver, who always resented it when the passengers of the carriage wanted to drive themselves. Joanna had felt when they were coming here that she drove just as well if not better than him. But it would be a mistake to say so and would only upset the man. She had already upset quite a number of servants in the house by changing many of the old ways that they did things and insisting on certain rooms being rearranged and the furniture moved. She had forgotten, because she had not been here for so long, that the house she was now in was so large.
