You? Reject me?

In seconds, he was in front of her again. She raised her eyes to meet his and instantly regretted it. All of the sudden, she felt the back of his hand collide with the side of her face. Hearing the loud crack, before her ears started ringing as she landed face down on the marble floor. Dazed, she pushed against the marble, trying to get up, but a wave of dizziness came over her, and she quickly fell back to the floor. Raising her hand to her head, Paige wondered how she hadn’t managed to pass out. "You are mine!” He screamed and she heard another loud thud. Feeling the cold floor against her cheek as the room began to spin, she somehow managed to raise herself up on one of her elbows to stare at him in bewilderment. Paige knew she might die today, but she certainly wasn’t expecting this. Surely he had to be going insane. She felt blood trickle down her chin as she struggled to raise herself into a sitting position. “Mine!” He continued his tantrum.” “My Mate” his wolf seemed to growl over and over again. “You let some other Alpha lay hands on you!” He hissed, crossing the room to where she now sat. He yanked her up and grabbed her neck, pinning her against the wall. Paige stared at him in astonishment. Mate. She thought. Apprehension finally started to sink in as she thought over what he’d just said. Mate. He had said that she was his fated mate. She stared at him as he squeezed her neck, cutting off her circulation. His eyes held nothing but pure hatred and disgust. To think, she, a weak human, was his fated mate that the moon goddess had chosen for him. No wonder he wanted her dead. What a joke. She thought. He raised his hand to hit her again and Paige’s lips curled up at the side, realization finally set in. He paused and looked at her confused. Slowly, he began to release his hold on her neck until she fell to the ground coughing and spitting out blood, then her cough turned into laughter. Feeling as though some primal switch had just been flipped inside her head, Paige stopped laughing and slowly stood up, wiping the blood from her chin. She eyed him coldly with a sadistic smile playing on her lips. It was a strange feeling, as if someone else had control over her body before she suddenly raised her arm and punched Alpha Damien across the face. Paige had never struck anyone in her life, but it felt like she had just punched a brick wall, and she knew the only real damage that’d been done had been to her now broken hand. However, she didn’t even flinch at the injury, continuing to smile as blood dripped from her chin. Alpha Damien didn’t move, but the amount of shock that was written on his face was well worth the injury. At this point, Paige clearly had no concern for her own life. Maybe she did have a death wish after all. He stepped back, looking at her like she had gone mad. Maybe she had. Everything Paige had been through in her life had finally pushed her to this. Judging by the expression he wore, she doubted that a woman had ever dared to raise a hand to him before this. He just stood there watching her intently with black eyes and a heated expression until she noticed his eyes gradually changed back to brown. He sighed, suddenly looking defeated, turning, and walking to his liquor cabinet, he poured himself a glass of whiskey. Taking a sip from his glass, Damien turned back to face her. “I will not accept a human as my Luna...” he said, his voice dripping of contempt as he locked eyes with her. “However, I will take you as a mistress merely to appease my wolf... and provide me an heir.” He added in a more serious tone. Paige had not moved, still wearing the same sadistic look as before. Abruptly, a bang sounded as his bedroom door was flung open and in ran his Beta and Gamma, now looking around the room at all the broken furniture, their eyes finally landing on Paige, then Damien. “Everything ok in here, Alpha…?” Titis asked, baffled. Alpha Damien did not respond, refusing to break eye contact with her. “What exactly is going on here...?” An angry voice rang out from the doorway, the men all turning to find Lilly standing there looking at Paige with a disgruntled expression on her face. “What’s she doing here!?” She hissed. Alpha Damien had turned to glance at the door with an impassive expression, but Paige ignored everyone else completely and slowly walked towards Alpha Damien. He immediately turned back to her, taken aback. Paige continued on though her body protested and ached. When she was standing directly in front of Alpha Damien, she raised her chin and looked up at him. “I really should thank you.” She said with distain. “You’ve shown me exactly what I wasn’t missing.” She paused for a moment before continuing. “I decline your offer, Alpha Damien... But you have my gratitude... At least I won’t have to worry about being tied by a mate bond in the future.” She gave him a twisted smile. “How dare you...” Lilly started for them but was reprimanded by Gamma Reyes as he held her between the two men. Paige narrowed her eyes, leaning into his ear. “You really must think highly of yourself, Alpha… The all-powerful Alpha Damien being reduced to this because of a mere human.” She spoke in almost a whisper. “...too much of a coward to set yourself free...” she continued and pulled back enough to look him in the eyes. Damien's face held a look of astonishment. She looked at him for a moment before stating plainly “You may be a coward, Alpha Damien, but I am not... and I will release us both.” She straightened as her face sobered. Damien's eyes widened when he understood what she was about to do. “I, Paige Elizabeth Kray, Reject you, Damien Michael Evensen, as my Mate.”
