Trapped.

Remaining calm, Paige said nothing as she stared back at her cousin, who now glared daggers at her. “Now Lilly dear, is that any way to greet your cousin.” Lily’s mother chimed in, while she sat on the sofa assessing the situation behind her coffee cup. “She is family after all.” Her words were dripping with sarcasm and a thin hard line formed on her lips to resemble something of a smile. The way she spoke was soft, words like honey, but Paige knew better. The woman was considered royalty among werewolf society and felt that Paige's father had polluted the bloodline by marrying Paige's mother. This woman thought of her as nothing more than trash, more so because Paige had yet to receive her wolf. This was also why she was hardly even considered a member of her own pack. She was certain that her father was the only reason she had not been thrown out or disposed of a long time ago. Lilly scoffed and turned back towards the other two women. “Really, mother, I’d hardly consider Uncle Tony’s dead bitches pitiful human offspring family…” Lilly stated in annoyance. “...but as you say. I’m simply reminding the help of its place.” Lilly snapped, with her nose in the air. Paige didn’t stick around long enough to hear them finish. Turning on her heel, she left without a word, her fingernails still painfully digging into the palms of her hands. Hearing them talk about her mother that way was a normal occurrence in this house, but still, it had stung. Roslyn’s memory had always been tarnished by these people, but biting her tongue was becoming harder lately. Just a few more days, she comforted herself. Paige tried to put the unpleasant thoughts from her mind as she went back to finishing her tasks. She hoped she’d be able to avoid all of them for the rest of her shift. As 5pm rolled around, Paige had completed all of her upstairs duties then went to Lilly’s room to return some fresh linen before the end of her shift. Entering the dark room, she made her way to the bed before placing the basket on the floor, then went to work changing out the hot-pink silk bed-sheets. A ghastly color in Paige’s opinion, but then, her cousin's tastes had never proven to be intelligent in any sense. Smoothing one last corner of the bed, she shrugged and grabbed the basket, turning to leave. The last thing she needed was another run in with that one today. Just as Paige started for the door, it suddenly opened on its own and alpha Damien stepped in. Startled, Paige stopped in her tracks. A momentary look of surprise crossed his features, then his brown eyes narrowed, and a malicious smile formed across his lips as he slowly closed the door behind him. Alpha Damien brazenly let his eyes wander down her body like a predictor accessing its prey. Frowning, Paige crossed her arms over her chest where his eyes had apparently landed after their assessment. “I was just finishing up here, Alpha, I’ll take my leave now.” She spoke quickly, bowing her head and heading for the door, however, in an attempt to sidestep around him, Alpha Damien suddenly moved so fast that Paige wasn’t even sure quite how it happened, but in an instant, he had knocked the breath out of her as he pinned her against the far wall, his hands on her arms. Paige shivered seeing that his eyes were now pitch black and just inches from hers. “Were you looking for me?” he asked in a low husky voice. “N…no Alpha.” She responded, her voice quavering as she came to her senses, slowly attempting to inch out from under him. He must have noticed this because his features instantly hardened and his grasp on her arms tightened. Leaning in to her so close she could feel his hot breath on her lips. “You dare defy your Alpha?” He whispered in her ear. She shivered as her heart began to pound faster. The inevitable panic started to set in, and she closed her eyes tightly trying to recall what her therapists had said. Happy place... Breathe... In and out... All those years spent overcoming the ptsd came flying back to her in seconds. Suddenly, she felt one of his hands release her just enough to slide up her arm, tracing over her shoulder to grasp the nape of her neck, where he then gripped the side of her face and roughly brushed a finger over her mouth parting her lips. Paige's head was starting to throb when an unexpected knock sounded on the bedroom door. Alpha Damien paused, and she opened her eyes to see that his black eyes had glazed over as though he were being mind-linked by someone in his pack. Mind linking was a form of telepathy used by packs to communicate both in human and werewolf form. Paige held her breath. She had no idea who it was, but she silently thanked the moon goddess for the interruption. As his eyes changed back to normal, his hands reluctantly released her, and he silently turned his back on her, pulling out his phone. Paige sobered and again started for the door. She had to get out of here as quickly as possible. Alpha Damien seemed to have some personal vendetta against her as of late, and she couldn’t risk anything ruining her plans. As she approached the door, reaching for the handle, she heard his voice right behind her. “I expect you at the pack-house first thing in the morning.” She frowned and carefully turned to face him. “Alpha... may I inquire as to the reason for this visit?” She said through gritted teeth, trying hard to keep the distain out of her voice. His expression darkened. “Do I need a reason to summon a member of my pack?” He asked spitefully. Paige opened her mouth to point out that being human, she was not a member of his Pack, but seeing the look on his face, quickly shut it again. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath in an attempt to keep her anger under control. “You have a fiancé” she stated in a barely audible tone, unable to keep the annoyance out of her voice this time. It was a mistake. She knew it the moment it left her mouth. He took a step towards her. “What was that?” He asked. Knowing full well she should be careful not to provoke him, not when she was so close to achieving her goal, Paige amended her response. “No Alpha” she said, baring her neck. His features seemed to relax then, apparently satisfied at the minor display of submission. She watched him sigh and casually glance out the window “It would appear one of my subjects requires a lesson in obedience.” Alpha Damien spoke in a malicious tone and Paige's eyes widened.
