Abby
I didn’t bother to see if Casey was still asleep, I continued making my way past his room and, down the staircase. I made myself a freshly, brewed cup of coffee. I heard footsteps and, I know that I wasn’t alone. “Couldn’t sleep?” I asked looking over my shoulder. Casey shook his head at me while he massaged his shoulder. “Coffee?” I asked. “Yes, please.” He breathed coming to stand next to me.
I made him a cup and handed to him. “Couldn’t sleep either?” He asked before bringing the cup to his lips. Lips I’ve tasted years ago. Lips that still haunts my every wet dream.
“No, the sheets were too cold.” He gave me a dazzling smile over the rim of his cup. “We can always warm them up.” He meant it as a joke but, I saw the seriousness in his eyes. “What do you have in mind?” I asked boldly, putting my cup down. “You wouldn’t like the answer.” He said, also placing his cup down. I don’t know where these emotions came from but, I was seriously losing my grip.
“What does it involve?” I asked noticing the small space between us, once he moved forward.
“A, bed.” He started moving closer. “You.” He continued teasing me. “Me.” He was standing right in front of me. “Naked.” He finished. I tilted my head to the side as he lowered his head and, kissed me on the side of my neck. He then cupped the side of my jaw in his palm, angling my head so he could brush my lips with a kiss. It was soft yet, wanting.
It felt like the first time that I’ve kissed him. The first time feeling his lips against mine, feeling those tingles ignite from my lips and, spreading all over my body. “What do you say?” He asked against my lips. “You and, me naked?” I asked. He nodded. “Sounds like a plan to me,” I answered capturing his lips with a kiss. But, our plan got interrupted when we heard footsteps coming from the staircase. We pulled away just in time before my father notices us. I picked up my coffee and, took a sip just to realize it was Casey’s. I heard him chuckle and, then found him looking at me.
“What are you guys up to?” My father asked noticing the tension.
“Coffee,” I answered swapping the cups around. “Couldn’t sleep?” He asked.
“Yep,” I answered while Casey only pulled up his shoulders. “I’m going to check on the fence.” He finished up his coffee and, walked out. “Yeah, I’m going to join him,” I told my father. I left the house and, followed Casey to the stables. He looked up once he heard me enter. He caught a glimpse of my face and, chuckled. “I would say that you regret kissing me.” He said. “Not in the way you think,” I answered.
“Are you checking up on me then?” He asked pulling himself up onto a horse. “No, I want to see the fence that you have been working on.” I slipped on the saddle onto Speedy and, mounted Speedy. Together we ride towards the fence.
“You left the house in a hurry when my father showed up.” Casey looked at me over his shoulder. “I was afraid that your father would see the growing boner in my pants.” I couldn’t help myself but laugh. “Your father would have noticed immediately what was going on between us.”
“I think he already suspects.” One can never hide anything from my father or, even lie to him.
“Are you ashamed?” He asked.
Unsatisfied is more like it. “No,” I answered truthfully.
We got to the fence and, I did a double take. “Did you do all of this by yourself?” I asked the same time I unmounted from Speedy to take a closer look. “Yes.” He answered looking all smug with himself. “Job well done,” I replied. “Is that the first compliment I hear since I got here?” He asked teasing me.
“I was complimenting you on your job, not your looks.” Casey only smiled. “A compliment is a compliment.” He said.
“How did you manage all of this?” I asked motioning towards the fancy new, stable fence.
“You mean, where did I get the money to do all of this?” I shrugged. “My savings.” He told me. “You have been saving since you started playing professional football?” I asked surprised.
“Is that so hard to imagine?” He asked.
“It’s not my business,” I answered.
“But, the answer to your question. Yes, I have been saving since I started playing.” I watched him continue his work, every muscle responded to his movement. “Casey, why are you here? I mean now.” I asked him. He looked up from the fence he probably noticed the vulnerability in my voice. “I got injured in my last game.” He muttered returning his attention back to the fence. “The game before I left?” I asked feeling the earth move underneath my feet.
I heard him give a sigh before he pushed himself up from the ground. “Yes, Abby.” He answered. “I pulled a ligament because my mind was pre-occupied with other thoughts. I didn’t see you in the crowd and, it made me lose my concentration.”
“Casey, I.”
“Don’t.” He said. “Don’t apologize to me now.” He continued. “It feels like you pity me now.”
“I will never pity you, Casey,” I replied. “I just feel now more responsible.” He looked at me, his facial expression changing from grim to understanding. “I didn’t mean to make you feel like that.” He said moving closer. “Will you be able to go back?” I asked. “If they let me.” He replied with a shrug as if it was no big deal. “Casey, that’s your life.” I lectured. “Dammit, Abby!” He yelled before closing the gap between us and, capturing my lips with his.
Our tongues danced, my mind struggled to find its way back and, my heart rate picking up. “Why, can’t you just see that you are my future?” He said with pleading eyes. “I didn’t care about my future the day I went down and, I got hospitalized. I only cared about finding you.” I tilted my head savoring the moment of his fingers in my hair. “I just wish you could see, how much I love you.” He said whispering against my skin before he placed a kiss.
“How can you love me after everything?” I asked. “I broke your heart, I ran away from you, from us and, here you are telling me that you still love me.” Casey smiled and, cupped my face between his hands. “You stole my heart the moment I met you and, you took my heart with you. The day you left me.”
“So, you are here to take it back?” I asked trying to make a joke.
“No, I am here to see if you still love me.”
