“LUCIEL—”
“No.”
Romina immediately frowned the moment she heard Luciel’s response. “I haven’t said anything yet.”
Luciel glared at her, recalling the conversation they had earlier with the pedicab drivers near the street food stall.
“Do you remember what I told you last time, huh, Romina?”
“Uh… about what?”
“The moment you approached those hags, I already knew what you’re trying to do!”
“Trying to do what again, Luciel?”
Luciel’s palm immediately went to his face then he glared at Romina. “I’ve been telling you OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Hindi ka pa ba talaga nadadala? You’re seriously getting yourself into trouble. I told you not to stick your nose on businesses like this again and again! First, you got caught up with some apparitions and lost souls and now you’re trying to help a ghost who’s actually become a sacrificial one or something? Man, if you think that case is simple to deal with then don’t get your hopes up. We’re not going to get involved ourselves. That’s not our problem anymore.”
“Luciel…” Romina called him.
“What?”
“I understand that you’re just concerned about me since you’re my guardian. I get that. You just want to protect me and to prevent me from trouble but you see, I couldn’t just bear watching a lost spirit or sacrificed spirit, whatever they call her, who actually seeks for someone’s help but no one wants to do so because they’re scared. We’re the ones who legit have experience dealing with apparitions and souls for months now. We should do something about it. We should definitely help.”
Luciel stared at her in silence.
“She’s seeking help, Luciel. She wanted freedom. I could tell she badly wants to be free that’s why she’s desperately asking for help. This is the least we could do for her,” Romina said, sighing. Then she kneeled in front of Luciel, obviously putting both of her shoulders on his lap which made him gasp in utter surprise. “Please? Please let us help her.”
Luciel sighed and he swiftly scooped Romina up and let her sit on the bed, flicking her forehead. “Damn you, human. You really know I couldn’t refuse you.”
She immediately grinned. “So, it’s a yes?! YAAAAAY!”
Luciel frowned at her and spoke. “For a human like yourself, aren’t you afraid of involving yourself to apparitions and souls, Romina?”
“Hmm…” Romina hummed then she spoke once again. “I’m not going to lie, it’s actually scary at first but I got used to it as we successfully helped those souls to pass through the afterlife and I am not afraid of everything because you’re here with me, Luciel.”
That made Luciel stare intently at Romina then sighed. “You’re being too dependent on me, Romina.”
Romina smiled at him. “Because you’re my guardian, after all.”
Luciel stared at her for a moment and Romina slightly frowned as she saw something unbelievable in Luciel’s eyes.
Half-crimson red, half-ocean blue.
She blinked thrice to confirm if she was not hallucinating or she did hallucinate but she still could see the color of his eyes’ iris.
His eyes…
Half-crimson red, half-ocean blue.
She slightly raised her right hand to touch it, but Luciel pulled her for a hug before she could do so. “Eh? Luciel?”
“You gave me so much headache for today,” Luciel sighed on her shoulder. “This is the least you could do to me, you know? You bossy, spoiled human who acts like a superhero for lost souls. Ugh, I don’t know if I am actually guarding a normal teenager or an actual ghostbuster.”
Romina side-eyed him for a moment.
No…
Then she chuckled and patted his head.
No, I’m not.
Because the one who’s actually getting spoiled is you, Luciel.
Her gaze slowly went to her window as she embraced Luciel comfortably.
A sacrificial spirit, huh…
“Hmm, I’m not really sure about that ghost’s history but based on the rumors, it’s been haunting the place for so long and causing accidents so many times. It’s actually quite terrifying for us to pass that place.”
“I am not also sure about this rumor that I’ve heard about that ghost but from what I’ve heard, that ghost was actually…”
On a silent road at night once again, a pedicab driver, aged around the early 50s, drove his way home when he passed through the balete drive. He was just passing a certain place not until he heard something crying from the distance. Then, he saw someone standing underneath the balete so he stopped for a second.
“Ineng, hey, it’s already dark at night. You should go home,” the pedicab driver said but the girl just kept on crying so he slightly went down his pedicab to approach the girl. “Ineng, your parents must be worried. You should go home. It’s dangerous for a girl like you to stay outside at night.”
The girl slowly turned her head towards the pedicab driver and with her pale, b****y face, she spoke.
“Tulungan n`yo po ako…”
“AAAHHH!!!!” The pedicab driver shrieked in so much fear as he rushed to his pedicab and drove away, almost hit himself on one of the trees in the process.
Trying to reach him with her pale, b****y hands, the girl spoke. “T-Tulungan n`yo po ako…”
“Gu-Gusto ko na pong umuwi sa amin…”
