In the dark alley, a man was running nonstop, as if his life depended on it.
His life really depended on it as an anonymous person kept on chasing him.
He was panting heavily and he was already tired but he needs to run away because he didn’t want to die in the hands of this unknown individual. His friend already died so he needed to run away as fast as he could.
Suddenly, he stumbled on a rock which made him fall to the ground. He wanted to get up but he winced in pain and noticed that his ankle got twisted and he also got a wound in both knees. He heard footsteps and before he knew it, the guy who chased him is now right in front of him.
Terrified, he cried. “Please, don’t kill me! Please have mercy! I have a family! I need to go home to them! Please don’t! Don’t kill me!”
The guy flaunted a sinister smile on his face. “You have a family? That’s nice. You can meet him… inside me,” he suddenly wielded his staff and pierced it to the man. The man’s soul immediately went out of his body and the anonymous guy got it and immediately ate it.
Licking his lips, he muttered. “This is not enough. I need more. I need more to fill me up.”
Romina yawned while she walked side by side with Luciel to school. The latter looked at her with a smug face. “Are you still that sleepy? You actually slept for almost nine hours after crying your eyes out. I even counted it. You slept around six and you even forgot to eat dinner.”
“Uh, yeah. You didn’t know? It takes too much energy,” Romina told him, making a face.
“I don’t know why it’s such a very big deal to you. You cried more than Julieta. I get it that you’re happy because you—we helped that ghost to reunite with his lover but you’re really overreacting crying over them,” he said, shaking his head.
“Well, yes! It’s fulfilling that we managed to help Mister Romeo reunite with Lola Julieta and of course, I am very emotional about it. It took them almost 48 years to reunite with each other. It’s painful for people losing someone, you know? Why? Haven’t you lose something or someone precious to you?”
That made Luciel pause for a moment and his eyes settled straight in front. “No, I didn’t and I don’t have any human emotions so I don’t understand what you’re talking about.”
“Yeah, right,” Romina muttered, waving her hand as if dismissing the question. “I forgot that you’re a demon.”
“That’s right. Be thankful that I am actually there to watch over you because Mara might come to you and attacked you in your sleep.”
“Huh? Mara? Who’s that?”
“It’s the demon that causes sleep paralysis. She’s actually a handful, you know?”
“Wow, even that? Wait, you encountered her?”
“Course, she always comes and goes in the underworld, you know. She’s quite troublesome sometimes.”
“Well, you’re a handful sometimes though.”
“What’s that supposed to mean—” Luciel paused once again that they stopped walking and Luciel was squinting his eyes.
“Luciel, is there something wrong?” Romina asked him.
“I know that you’re here. Come out now,” with a serious voice, Luciel said at someone which Romina couldn’t help but frown thinking of who’s he’s talking about.
“You really do have a keen sense, Luciel,” a boy around their age walked out of the tree from where he’s hiding and he stepped in front of them, and with a smile on his face, he raised his hand. “Hello, Luciel and Romina. Long time no see.”
He looks familiar.
As soon as Romina got it, her eyes immediately widen and pointed to him. “You're—You’re Marivic’s guardian angel!”
Simeon smiled at her. “You still remembered me, Romina.”
Luciel immediately clicked his tongue. “What the f**k are you doing here, you angel? I don’t recall Marivic summoning you and as far as we’re concerned, her birthday is next month so I presumed that she didn’t summon you. So, what are you doing here?”
“Father gave me permission to come here on Earth and lowkey watch over Marivic. But the main reason why I’m also here is that he gave me a mission,” Simeon answered.
Romina couldn’t help but ask. “A mission?”
“What kind of mission is that?” Luciel asked.
Suddenly, Simeon flaunted a sword in front of Luciel that made Romina gasp in utter surprise. “To investigate you, Luciel.”
“Wait, wait—hold on! Investigate Luciel, my guardian? But why? What did he do?!” Romina asked in total panic. “I didn’t recall that my guardian did anything wrong here!”
Could it be that we got a violation for saving two ghosts?
“There are so many reports that were sent to us saying that there’s this anonymous being that kept on killing people and stealing their souls. The victims’ description is someone that looked demonic. Last night, this being killed ten people in a snap,” Simeon said as he kept his sword pointed at Luciel. “Michael gave me a task to investigate you.”
“Wait, what? Killing and stealing people’s souls? Last night? Are you sure? It’s not like I am doubting you Angel Simeon but I am a witness and I could tell you that Luciel didn’t do anything last night nor come out of my house. He stayed with me guarding me in my sleep and he won’t do anything if I didn’t say so. So, it’s really impossible that Luciel will do that just because he’s a demon!”
“Do not worry, Romina. We just want to ask some questions Luciel about this case. I have no intentions harming him.”
“But I told you the truth that Luciel didn’t—”
“Because what? What, Simeon? Why? Because I am the first demon that got assigned to be a guardian here on Earth that’s why you’re now investigating me on this case?” Luciel asked and he couldn’t help but smirk. “Isn’t this nostalgic to you, Simeon?”
Simeon stared at him in silence.
“You all did the same thing to me… centuries ago and same old thing, you won’t listen to me… after all.”
