ROMINA FELT SOMETHING HEAVY ON HER HEAD. IT FELT HEAVY BUT SOMEHOW, IT’S WARM AND COMFORTING.
She slowly opened her eyes and saw Luciel gently caressing her head. “Luciel...?”
“You’re awake,” he muttered in a low voice. “How do you feel? Are you okay?”
I checked her earlier and she didn’t get any injuries from her encounter with Percival.
“I’m… hungry,” she responded.
“Oh…” Luciel slowly nodded and before he could even move his hands to do a trick but Romina stopped him and shook his head.
With a sigh, he nodded. “You humans are so handful. Okay, fine. I’ll go downstairs to get you food like a decent human being.”
Romina grinned at him. “Thank you.”
He just shook his head and pat her head then he went out of her room.
Romina’s eyes followed him until he closed her room’s door. She was about to lay back on her bed when she felt a warm breeze that blew her hair. She turned her head on the window and she looked at something in astonishment.
“You’re…”
“Is she okay now?” Luciel turned his head to Romina’s mom who’s now preparing a bowl of porridge. He, on the other hand, was also preparing a glass of milk for Romina.
I could actually just snap and give her food, you know? This is just too handful to do.
“Uh… yeah—I mean, yes, Ma’am. She’s okay now.”
Romina’s mom smiled at him. “You can just call me Tita. I’m fine with it.” (Tita is a Filipino term for Auntie.)
“Uh… okay, Tita.”
Damn, I’m way older than you, human. Why would I even talk to you formally?
Ah, right. Because Romina said so.
Humans are indeed a handful.
“I’m actually glad that Romina gained friends… especially you and Marivic. When she was still a kid, we usually transfer from one place to another because of my job. She usually transfers from one school to another that’s why she couldn’t manage to make friends because of it. She felt so awkward with other kids that’s why she’s playing alone not until one day, Marivic approached her and they became friends,” Romina’s mom’s smile flaunted on her face as she spoke. “I couldn’t be happier seeing her happy like that,” she, then, looked at Luciel. “And I am also happy that you’re here taking good care of her. I’m so thankful that you’re here for her.”
Luciel fell silent for a second then he nodded. “You’re… you’re always welcome, Tita.”
"You are that angel."
The angel in front of Romina smiled at her. His hair is white and shining as well as the golden halo on his head. His eyelashes are white and his eyes are blue and gleaming—a contrast of blue ocean and skies which made it more pleasing and brighter to stare at. Totally gorgeous and heavenly.
And albeit he looked different by that, Romina could still tell that he’s the exact replica of Luciel.
“Sorry for barging in your room. It’s so impolite of me to do so. I didn’t properly introduce myself to you when we first met,” the angel spoke in a calm and gentle voice. “I am Sachiel, one of the archangels in the Celestial Realm and I am Luciel’s younger twin.”
“You’re Luciel’s younger twin…?” Romina couldn’t help but ask in utter surprise. “Wait, wait, wait, what? You’re twins?! As in LEGIT TWINS?! How is it possible?! You’re… you’re an angel! He’s a demon! How come?”
“I know you are confused and I understand that,” Sachiel said as he nodded calmly. “But it is true. We are twins.”
“How… how come? How come that you are twins but from different realms?”
I’ve never encountered such a story in the novels that I’m reading!
“It’s a long story since it happened centuries ago. As you see, Luciel is such a wonderful angel back then… much wonderful, more amazing than me, his twin… before he fell from grace.”
“He fell… from grace,” Romina’s brows twitched after he heard what Sachiel told her.
Suddenly, a memory from school flashed in her mind.
Fallen angels are angels who were expelled from heaven. These angels were cast out of heaven or angels who sinned. Such angels often tempt humans to sin. Accordingly, fallen angels became identified with angels in rebellion against Father and equated with demons.
“So… he’s an angel in the past?” she asked. “But why did he become a demon? What happened that you are twins but you parted ways?”
“He—”
Before Sachiel could even finish his sentence, a black spear went straight on his way but he managed to stop it using his hand and broke it into pieces.
“What the f**k are you doing here?!”
Romina immediately turned her head at Luciel. He was obviously mad the moment that he saw his twin.
“Fa-Frater…” Sachiel called him.
“Stop calling me that!” Luciel immediately raised his hand and using his power, pushed Sachiel away. Romina gasped as she covered her ear when she heard her room’s window break. “Nolite me vocant fratrem tuum.” (Stop calling me your brother.)
Floating in the air, Sachiel looked at Luciel. He looked hurt by how Luciel pushed him away like that. “Frater, I—”
Luciel was about to hit him again but Romina immediately went in front of him and hold his arm. “Luciel, stop! Stop! He didn’t do anything wrong! Stop it!”
“Scio... Scio quod non vis me, mi frater...” Sachiel trailed on. “I remembered that you got injured during your fight with Percival so I paid a visit to see if you’re okay.” (I know, I know you don’t want to see me.)
“It’s not even your concern anymore,” Luciel told him. “It’s none of your f*****g business so you don’t have to pay me a visit nor disturb the human I’m guarding. Go away. Go home.”
“Luciel…”
“f**k, go away Sachiel! Go home!” Luciel shouted at him. “Exite! Ite domum!”
Sachiel looked hurt while staring at him. He heaved a sigh and nodded. “Okay… but I’ll still pay you a visit,” his eyes settled on Romina who looked sad, worried, and confused. He managed to give her a smile. “Do not worry, Romina. I’m okay. I’m sorry for breaking your window like that.”
Romina shook her head. “It’s… It’s okay. I-I understand.”
“I’m sorry. Let me make it up to you next time.” His eyes settled on Luciel once again. “Et redde tu usque a visit, frater.”
Luciel’s jaw clenched while looking away.
Sachiel flapped his wings and flew away. When the tension went down as soon as Sachiel left, Romina looked at Luciel who’s now closing his eyes trying to calm himself down.
“Luciel…”
“I already brought your food. Your mother made you some porridge and it’s obviously cold now so eat it. I’m heading out,” Luciel nudged Romina’s hold from his arm. He gave her a look and without a word, he left her room in silence.
Romina’s gaze followed him until he closed her room’s door. Her mind was full of confusion and questions when she saw that encounter between Luciel and Sachiel.
What happened to the two of them centuries ago that they parted ways like this?
