It's always hard to move when you are a teenager and you have lived your whole life somewhere surrounded by your friends and everything else that you’re familiar with. It’s also hard to watch your childhood home being run by an arrogant Alpha who isn’t much older than myself and you know that every move he makes is putting the whole pack in danger.
Mom dropped me off after a four hour drive, she took my bag out of the trunk and she was ready to leave.
“That’s it? You’re not gonna go inside the house with me?” I took my bag from her and asked, hesitantly, and she’s already got into the car and she rolled the window down.
“Well, I’ve called your father and explained everything to him, you’ll be fine here, and I don’t think your father’s new girlfriend wants to see me.” Was her simple reply.
Before I could say anything, she started the car and left, only the leaves rolled up by the swirl of the engine。
I turned around to see the single story wooden cabin with faded pain and broken shudders on the outside of the windows. But otherwise, it looks fairly well maintained. A home that my father made once he found his mate and left us behind.
When I stepped into the house for the first time, I immediately wanted to run away. The smell was very overpowering and I felt unwelcome as soon as my father and my stepmother turned their glares on me. Yes I was moving to live with my father and his new mate, because my mother decided it’s too dangerous for me to stay in our old pack with the ridiculous and outrageous new alpha, what she didn’t know is that this place is not much better with this evil woman who hates kids and especially hated me cramping their style.
I looked her in the eye and I understood the message she was trying to send right away, letting a total stranger stay in her house is the biggest compromise she could make and other than that, I was on my own. They weren’t going to buy food for me and I needed to be completely independent now.
So I started to work as a waitress in a nearby restaurant. Most of the time, they just acted like I never existed, and I was fine with it. I tried to keep my life as easy as possible, I just had to make it till mom came and took me back. The tips were good since people in the town all know who my step mother is. And how much she hates having me around. She hasn’t exactly been quiet about voicing her opinion on the subject. I tried to ignore her and saved up in case I wanted to move out when things got intolerable.
It was Friday today. I packed my stuff as soon as I heard the bell. I usually made more on Friday night since people were chilling out after a long week. I zippered up and was ready to go when a shadow covered the light as someone stood in front of me. I looked up and it’s Carter, one of the boys in the class who has made it a little obvious that he’s got a crush on me. I just don’t feel the same way.
“Hey Carter, What’s up?”
“Jason is holding a party at his house tonight cause his parents are out of town, and he’s got a huge pool and everything, would you like to come?”
“Oh yeah, thanks, but I have to work tonight, maybe some other time.”
“Is that stepmother of yours still being a pain?” He asked, looking at me with a bit of sympathy.
“Does anyone around here really expect her to change? It does matter. I better get going before I’m late.”
I started walking down the road towards the restaurant and I was actually glad that I was working this afternoon.
Those parties at Jason’s house are notorious. Everyone always comes to school the following Monday and talks about who they hooked up with at the party. Honestly, it just sounds like one big orgy to me.
I got to the restaurant and put my stuff out the back and went to the bathroom to get changed into my work uniform, a black dress with a white apron.
I walked into the dining room and there was already a rush of people starting to fill the diner. Some of them I knew from school, but there were also some that I knew from around the pack.
The start of my shift went smoothly until a bunch of guys came in and sat in my section. Where they always sit because they know that it’s my section.
I let out a sigh before I walked over to the four of them and I pulled out my order book and pen, seeing one of them getting a really wide grin on his face when he saw me.
“What can I get you?” I asked, trying to stay out of arms reach from them.
“Well, I can think of a few things you can do for me, but I don’t think we can do any of it in public.” He smirked at me. But I just rolled my eyes.
“Come on, leave her alone. She’s just trying to do her job.” Another one of them said. And that actually surprised me, causing me to look at the second guy strangely.
“What’s wrong? Don’t you think I can be a gentleman?”
“I’ve just never seen it before.”
“Well, you’re not seeing it now either.” He said, lunging for me. He grabbed my wrist and he pulled me over onto his lap while all of his friends were laughing.
I tried to get up but he was making it really impossible, pushing his chair in closer to the table so I was getting squashed between him and the table. I tried to push my way off of him and he tightened his grip around my waist, using his other hand to move up my waist and grab my breast.
So I grabbed the pen that I had in my hand and I stabbed it straight into his leg, causing him to yell and let go of me so I could finally get free of his grasp and I moved away from the table as fast as I could.
My manager walked over to us and he pulled me to the side, away from the table.
“What the hell is going on here?”
“That b***h stabbed me.” The guy yelled.
“Well, maybe she wouldn’t have if you didn’t put her in a position to do it.” My manager yelled at him.
“Are you saying this is my fault?”
“Of course I am. You can’t come in here and treat my workers like that. I saw everything and you don’t touch my waitresses. Taylor, go and serve the rest of your tables. I’ll handle this one from here.” My manager James said. So I turned around and went back to the kitchen to get a clean pen and fix up my uniform before I went back out to the diner.
By that point I had gained the attention of a lot of people in the diner, but I tried to ignore their stares because I was pretty used to it by now. Especially being harassed like that at my job. It was a regular occurrence unfortunately.
