Shock and Denial
China’s P.O.V
“I, Donald Jamerson III, Alpha of the Midnight Blue Moon Pack reject you, China Ann Rowland, as my mate and my Luna. I here forth …"
*gasp* NO!
I can’t be hearing this right.
How could he?
Thirteen years!
My mate. My Alpha.
What is he saying?
‘Pearl? Pearl? PEARL?!’ I called to my wolf
‘He’s rejecting us.’ Pearl whines.
‘NO! How could he do this to us? After so long? Pearl, we won’t last! We... we won’t survive this. He’s trying to kill us. Why does he want -’
‘We won’t die. I refuse to let us die!’ Pearl cuts me off. ‘We will survive this. We will make him regret this day. We will rip his heart out! He will feel the pain he tried to make us feel today.’
I snap out of my mind as I am being walked from my home. I glance up to be met with the familiar face beta, my best friend, and my brother, Adrian Rowland, with so much rage and sympathy in his eyes.
“We have to get you out of here. I’m so sorry.” He whispers. “Please big sister. I know you are shocked but walk out with your head held high. Show your true strength.”
I stand just outside of the pack doors. “Strength?” I growled. "You want me to show strength when my mate has rejected me. You don’t understand how excruciatingly painful...” I gripped my chest waiting to feel the sharp pain of rejection. I was only met with a slight sting of my heart. The pain? I have heard so many stories of wolves who've experienced so much pain, even death after rejection, but I couldn't understand why I wasn't.
‘Pearl, why is there no longer any pain?’ I asked
‘Our bond was weak!’ She replied.
'I don't understand.'
'Your heart will hurt but you will only feel the pain of heartbreak not the pain of the mate bond.'
She’s right. At some point in our time together Donald and I started to drift apart. I don’t know when and I don’t know why but we were.
“CHINA!” my brother, Adrian yelled.
“Hmm?”
“I have been calling you for a while now. You zoned out on me! I asked if you were ready to leave?
“Y-yes! I guess it's time for me to take my-”
“Ugh, why are you still here? I thought my mate rejected you! You should save yourself the embarrassment and go.” Jasmine screeched. That annoying pitch. That nasal snort. That weak attempt to come off as a b***h. One of my mates, rather ex-mates, many whores. His latest excavation. She has been one of the many reasons I have found excruciating pain. The bond may have weakened, but I still feel the unbearable pain of infidelity.
“Well, Adrian, I will be off,” I spoke to my brother. Like hell, I would ever acknowledge this waste of creation.
“We, sister. We. There is no way we would leave you alone.” He replies.
“We?”
“Yes, we!”
As I looked around there was a gathering of at least 60 wolves, ready to leave their homes for me. Ready to take on becoming Rogues. I stood shocked with tears in my eyes.
“You all are ready to leave your pack, your home, and your Alpha because I was rejected? Adrian, you are the Beta in this pack. I can’t have you lose your title and rank for me.” I stated. Emotions are overwhelming. A flow of tears I tried to fight back finally fell to my cheek.
“We are not leaving our pack nor our Alpha.”
“Delta Ray? You as well?” I squealed. Delta Raymond Ward. The best warrior amongst all the U.S packs and one of my closest friends.
“We will not lose our titles. At least we’d hope not.” Adrian spoke.
I gave him a confusing glace. How would they not? Once they renounce their ties to the Midnight Bue pack they become an ordinary wolf. Adrian and I are Beta born, but once he rejects this pack, he loses his position. I can't let him give up what is his birthright.
“How can you not? You are giving up your birthright to become Rogue. I cannot let you do that.” I stated.
“Not if we already have an Alpha, and a home to go to.” he grinned. “Only if she will just accept us as her pack and me as her Beta?”
“Why is that stated as a question? Where is this home and who is this Alpha?” I asked.
Adrian and Ray blankly stared at me. Then glanced at each other. “Dunce!” they said.
“What?!” I couldn’t understand what they were going on about.
‘I can’t believe this is the human I got stuck with. Dear sweet baby Moon Goddess. Perhaps you could switch me to a human who is not so.....slow’ Pearl grumbled.
‘I can hear you!’
‘No s**t Sherlock. I'm in your head. Take me now Goddess.’
‘Well, if you're so smart, who is this Alpha Pearl?’
‘Thank you for finally letting it click.’ she said sarcastically. ‘I thought you would never catch on that it is you.’
“ME?!”
