For a place where hundreds of people live, the Sanctum’s halls were miraculously empty. Jason and I had to find our way through the Los Angeles Sanctum’s maze of corridors, hallways and stairs. Everywhere we turned were aisles and pathways that led to more dizzying passages. After what seemed like thirty good minutes of scrambling through the Sanctum’s floors, we were able to find the Council room. “Hello there, my dear,” greeted Lucius as he opened the door for us. “Do come in,” he said, pointing the way inside the room. I didn’t bother to put on even a half-smile as my heart was pounding like a jackhammer inside my chest. I knew I was not afraid of whatever the verdict was, but for some reason, I was frightened.
