Chapter 4To say I had frayed nerves would be putting it mildly as I rode up to the next level, stepped out and found the hallway deserted. The hall curved convexly around the glass gallery where I could look down two levels, and observe the humans eating at large, round tables below. The level below that, stair-stepping it, was for entertainment. It housed billiards, assorted games, and a bowling alley. Designed, I presumed, to alleviate the boredom of donors waiting for their vampires to choose one of them. Some vampires had specific donors and used only them. Depending upon the vampire's need, they chose only one or two humans per night per vampire. The donors rotated on a weekly basis so as not to use more blood than could be replaced.
