Chapter 3Mateo’s bed was officially downstairs in the living room. He rested on it when Wes and Lily were out together, or whenever he was supposed to stay out of their way. During the nights, like now, he slept on the floor on the fluffy rug next to Lily’s bed. He felt good in the house, wherever it was. Somehow, he hadn’t figured out his exact location yet. One morning, Wes had had the local news station on the kitchen radio while he reorganized the pantry. Mateo had missed the name of the city but knew they were in Colorado somewhere. That didn’t help, because his pack was pretty deep in New Mexico. He wouldn’t be able to run there in wolf form, and so far, after four days with the little family unit, he still couldn’t change back to human. Mateo huffed and tried to fall back asleep.
