Scared of Falling

We were sitting at home eating dinner. "I hope you enjoyed today. " I said. "Yes, I did. Thank you so much." "The ice cream was really good wasn't it?" She asked. "Yes." I replied. "Good boy." She patted my head. I rolled my eyes. "Des, there's something I want to talk about." I breathed out. Was I really doing this? "I am all ears,Blakesley. " She replied. "Blakesley? What the- Anyways, there is a launch party of my company. I was asking if you would like to be my date for the night. " I whispered. "What?" She widened her eyes. "Yes! Of course!" She replied smilingly. I smiled back at her. "Then let's go shopping alright?" I asked. I knew how much she loved shopping. "Really?" She widened her eyes. I smiled. "I know a good place. I am sure that you will like the things they have." I said. "Let's see." She winked. - The car trip was not long until we reached the store. "That's a designer!" She gasped. "You brought me here?!" She frowned. "Don't you like designers?" I asked. "I do..." She whispered. "Then let's go. " I grabbed her waist as we walked inside. She was very happy. I could tell it. Walking here and there, she was looking at dresses. "What kind of party? I mean, what kind of dress should I choose?" She whispered to me. "You can wear anything you want." I replied. "If that was the case, I would've gone there wearing a bikini." She joked. "Anyways, what colour are you wearing?" She asked. "I am going for a midnight blue probably." I replied. "Then place your bets, sir. I will find a midnight blue dress to wear too." She winked. She walked around. She liked a lot of dresses but was not taking any. After a while, she turned around to me. "Can we go somewhere else?" She asked. "Why? Don't you like anything from here?" I asked. "No." She replied. She was about to walk past me but I grabbed her arm and made her stand straight in front of me. "Des, take anything you want. " I said to her. "I cannot. " She frowned. "The price does not matter. " I assured her. "Blake, it does. Let's go." She pulled my arm. "Come on now." I said. "If you want, you can buy your outfit from here but not mine. " She said. "Why is the price bothering you so much?" I asked. "Don't you get it? You are paying for everything I do. I am forever indebted to you. I am not a gold digger. That is very expensive. Please don't do this. " She said. I nodded. I turned around and motioned the shop assistant to pack that dress. "What?" She frowned. "Blake-" "I know how you are. You don't have to be like this." I said. "I cannot let you do this, Blake. " She whispered in my ear. "Just consider it as a gift from me." I smiled. "But-" "Shush, princess. We are going to have a long night. " I placed my finger on her lips. "I need to pay you back. " She whispered. "You never have to pay me back.'' I replied. "I have to. I took your care for granted. I did so many things to hurt you." She said. "We are way past that, aren't we? I am not mad at you. I was never. " I smiled. "You are the best. Now get me some ice cream. I will not pay you back for that." She said. I chuckled at her words. I paid for the dress and we walked out of the store. "You know... we only have two months left. " I whispered. "What?" She asked. "Don't you remember?" I asked. "But you said 4 months. " She replied. "Well, two months have passed, Desdemona. Plus, I talked with your father. I have heard that both your parents are very sick at the moment." I explained. "What?! How are they?!" She asked. "They are fine. Calm down." I said. "You have nothing to worry about. " I whispered. From the beginning, I had in mind that we would spend 6 months together. When it felt like too much. I lowered it to 5 months. Talking with Joseph made me feel that neither him nor his wife was going to survive more than a year or two. They both were in a critical condition. What if something happens, and either one of them passes away, then Desdemona won't ever forgive me for keeping her here and not being able to spend time with her parents. Since Desdemona came, I started to pay all kind of expenses for Joseph and his wife. It was because her parents were her happiness and my happiness lied in hers. Of course, she did not know about it. Despite all that, I was slightly disappointed about the fact that she did not care about how we had only a month left to spend with each other. Now she was upset about how her parents were sick. Not to sound selfish but I am, she should feel sad for her parents but I wanted her to be sad about going away. Nonetheless, I still held her hands. "Are you alright?" I asked. " I am. " She murmured, still looking outside the window. The car halted. We stopped in front of an ice cream parlour. We walked out and entered. She chose what she wanted to eat. I paid for it. There was just a mustard farm nearby. She held my hands and without saying anything, she walked towards the farm. A two-minute walk marked on my heart like the memories of an eternity. As we stood in the midst of the grasses, with yellow mustard flower, the setting sun fell on her face like the glow of divinity. "I want you to promise me something. " She whispered. She did not let go of my hands. "I want this to be our last memory. After that, we will just be like two different humans. Whatever days we have left, promise me you won't create any memories, no emotional talks, no sudden kisses, no midnight conversations, you won't make my favourite food, I want this to be our last memory. " She whispered. She raised her head and leaned closer to me. I leaned down and I was the one to capture her lips first. Her eyes filled with tears quickly dried. Why was she so afraid of falling? As soon as the kiss ended, she embraced me like I meant the world to her. But Desdemona, I can't promise you that.
