Chapter 2

“Hi, Sera.” Cayden greeted me with a smile without taking his eyes off of the screen as I walked into his room. “Yay… I am the winner.” He cheered and Mason shrugged his shoulders before he turned to me. “She distracted me.” He said and winked at me playfully while I rolled my eyes at him and sat down on the bed next to them. “Princess.” He added with a nod as a greeting. He always calls me ‘princess’ or ‘angel’ , sometimes he even calls me ‘your majesty’ just to mock me. He works on my nerves all the time. I mean when he isn't ignoring me. “Yeah, yeah. You are just a sore loser, Mase.” Cayden told him while he turned the game off. Mason is a friend of Cayden's, so he often hangs out with us, much to my dismay. He is my classmate as well and doesn’t miss an opportunity to annoy me or tease me or just make unnecessary comments about me. “What do you want to do, Sera? Do you want to watch a movie?” Cayden asked with a smile on his handsome face and I almost melted, but I didn’t miss seeing Mason rolling his eyes when Cayden didn’t look. He didn't like that I was disturbing them. They are both very tall and handsome, so sometimes I get distracted by them, especially lately when they have started to be more and more … muscular. “Princess? Are you okay?” Mason asked with a chuckle and I snapped out of my thoughts and looked at him in confusion. “Yeah, why?” I asked him. “Your face turned red all of a sudden.” He said mockingly and started laughing while Cayden let out a chuckle. I don't think he knew what Mason was laughing about, he just found my expression funny. “It’s just… it’s warm in here. Stop laughing, you idiot.” I scolded Mason. I was embarrassed about being caught. “Hmm… I don’t mind what we are doing, you guys can decide.” I added and Cayden nodded his head and went to put in a movie. Mason turned to me and leaned closer so Cayden couldn’t hear him. “I know you have the hots for my friend here.” He whispered teasingly and my eyes widened. I felt the blood rushing to my head, painting my cheeks crimson red once again, and I felt lightheaded all of a sudden. “What? Wh…what are you talking about?” I asked him in panic, but I tried to stay cool. The last thing I wanted was for Mason to find out about my crush on Cayden and tease me to death. “Pfff… you have serious problems in your head, Mason.” I told him with a chuckle while I tried to stay calm and collected. He just narrowed his eyes at me, but before he could say anything… “What should we choose, guys? I can’t decide.” Cayden turned to us, so Mason put some distance between us, which I was glad about. I could finally breathe again. We chose a movie that we hadn’t seen yet and settled down on Cayden’s bed. We made ourselves comfortable and I ended up between the two of them. I didn’t mind though. We watched movies like this several times and Cayden always ended up sleeping just like this time. “It’s a record. He managed to watch forty-five minutes of the movie.” Mason said quietly, and I nodded my head with a chuckle as I looked at Cayden, who leaned his head against my shoulder while he was sleeping peacefully and snoring lightly. “Yeah, but I don’t understand how he can fall asleep like this. That movie is good and interesting.” I told him in a whisper. I didn’t want to wake Cayden up. I actually liked that he was this close to me. That’s why I always tried to sit next to him whenever we watched a movie. It was on a day like that when I realised that I liked him. “I agree, it’s a good movie, but he was always like that.” He said with a shrug and started to massage his neck with a painful expression on his face. “My neck hurts.” He said and then looked at me. “Can I lean my head on your shoulder too? Or is that only allowed for Cayden?” He asked teasingly and I looked at him in disbelief. I so wanted to tell him NO, he can’t lean on me, but that would be a 'yes' to his other question. He was surprisingly nice today, so I decided to be nicer to him as well. “Yes, you can lean on me, but please stop with this bullsh*t. We are just friends and I don’t want you to go around the packhouse and spread rumours about us.” I told him firmly and he held his hands up in the air in surrender. “Slow down, Angel. It was not my intention. I just see what I see, but don’t worry. I won’t tell a soul.” He whispered cockily and I scowled at him. He just smiled at me and leaned his head on my other shoulder while he folded his right arm with mine. I just looked at him with narrowed eyes, but didn’t say anything. He was acting strangely, but the thing that worried me the most was… should I trust him? What if he is planning something? I don’t know how he found out about me liking Cayden , but I don’t want him to tell anyone, let alone Cayden. Maybe I should really be a bit nicer to him so he won’t even think about snitching on me. It felt weird to sit between two handsome guys who, by the way, smelled heavenly. I knew that Cayden smelled good, but I didn’t get the chance to take a sniff of Mason before. His scent was totally …nice. I couldn’t help but take a deep breath to inhale it. I had never thought about any of them the way I am thinking now, but I can’t help it. They were just annoying kids before, but now… with those muscles, they are starting to show that they are closer and closer to being an adult. Just like I am. Over the last two years, my breasts have gotten bigger and bigger and I tried to hide them at first, but then mom explained that it was normal and I am lucky to have big ones, since a lot of adults just wished to have just half of my size. Now I am fine with them, but it was not easy when boys started to notice them as well. They didn’t dare to say anything rude to me, luckily, since I am the daughter of the Alpha, except one of them. Guess who… “Hmm… princess?” I snapped out of my thoughts as Mason called my name. The movie was over and I was leaning my head on Mason’s as his head was on my shoulder, much to my surprise. I don’t know when I ended up in this position. “Oh, sorry. I almost fell asleep… that’s why..” I started to explain myself quickly, but he just let out a chuckle. “It’s all good, princess.” He said and stood up from the bed and I let out a frustrated sigh. “Why can’t you just call me by my name like everybody else?” I asked him. “Where is the fun in that?” He asked with a shrug of his shoulders while he was smirking at me. “You are so …” I started but I was cut off by my ringtone. “I know, I know. I am annoying and frustrating and handsome. Just pick it up, Angel.” He said with a cheeky grin and I let out a frustrated groan before answering my phone. “Hallo?” “Hi, sweetie. Where are you?” Mom asked from the other end of the line. “Hi ,mom. I am at Cayden’s,” I said. “Can you please come home? We need to talk.” She said and I let out a sigh. It sounded serious. “Of course, Mom. I will be there in a minute.” I said, and we hung up. I am sure they want to talk about my education or practice to become the heroine to all the werewolves in the world, like they always do. My life is only about training and studying while my parents are busy making sure that I get all the support from them that I need. I know they want the best for me, but sometimes the pressure just gets too much to handle and they don’t understand that. “What is it again? Are you going to learn kung fu this time?” Mason asked with a chuckle and I rolled my eyes at him. “I need to go. They want to talk about something.” I said, and looked at Cayden who was still sleeping peacefully. “Just go, I will let him know when he wakes up,” Mason said, and I looked at him for a moment. I couldn’t put his behaviour anywhere. I mean, he is always teasing me and annoying me, but today he wasn’t that annoying. I would even say he was nice to me. “Okay, thanks. Bye.” I said and left the room quickly. I wonder what my parents want to talk to me about. I hope it’s not another new idea about me learning other martial arts again, just like Mason was joking about. They have already made me learn three different kinds and I don't even have my wolf yet. Sometimes I think about dyeing my hair and travelling to Australia to Grandma Camelia and Grandpa Jackson so I can live a normal life as far from here as possible. * *** Cayden’s POV *** * I woke up to the noise of the door being shut and opened my eyes to see Mason standing by the TV. The movie was over and it looked like I fell asleep again. Then I looked next to me to find the bed empty. “Where is Serena? Did you scare her away?” I asked my friend accusingly. Mason doesn’t really like Sera for some reason and I tried to reason with him before I let him come over because I already had plans with her. She is my best friend and I won’t let my other best friend talk sh*t about her. A lot of people praise her for thinking she is special, but Mason doesn’t think like that. He thinks she got all those compliments for nothing and it annoys him. At least he doesn’t pretend to like her like some of the pack members do, but still. They are both my friends and I am stuck in the middle for a while now. It has to stop. “What? No, I was nice to her as you asked me to. She just needed to go home. Her mom called her.” He explained and I nodded my head in understanding. “Did she say if she would come back?” I asked him in a calmer tone. I am glad he is trying to get to know Sera better. They are classmates after all. “No, she didn’t, but I still don’t understand why you are hanging out with her when we could go and play soccer instead.” He said disdainfully and I narrowed my eyes at him. “Sera is my friend, Mason, and I like to hang out with her. If you don’t like her, you don’t have to hang out with us.” I told him and he let out a sigh and nodded his head in defeat. “Wanna play?” I asked him and he nodded his head once again. “Always,” he said with a half smile. They are both my friends and I would hate to choose between them if they asked me to, but I think Mason knows that I would choose Sera over him, so that’s why he is trying to be nice to her for my sake. “Do you like her?” He asked out of nowhere as we were playing. “Hmm… of course I like her, she is my friend, duh.” I said, while still looking at the screen. “I mean, do you like her more than your friend? Do you like her as a girl?” He asked and I paused the game and looked at him. “Sera is a nice girl and we grew up together, she is my best friend and I had never thought about her differently, but what is this question suddenly?” I asked him with furrowed eyebrows. “Nothing, just asking.” He said with a shrug of his shoulders. “Let’s continue the game.” He added. “You don’t ask things like that for no reason, Mason.” I told him and he let out a sigh. “It’s just… I don’t believe in friendship between a boy and a girl. One of them will start to have feelings for the other sooner or later,” he said, and I rolled my eyes at him. Typical, narrow-minded thinking. “We have been friends since we were born, so I think we are the proof of that.” I told him pointedly and started the game again. “If you say so,” he said, and we continued playing. I don’t know what got into him for asking questions like that, but it’s Mason after all. You never know what is going through in that head of his.
