Chapter 1

Were nightmares considered an indication of one's future awareness? Or did they serve as a starting point for intrusive thougths? But some people say it was caused by a traumatic event... "Mommy, daddy," she called in her sleep, dreaming of the last smiling faces of her beloved parents. The little girl's hand unknowingly reached out for them, afraid to be apart. The once heavenly and sparkly mist turns into a dark, eerie atmosphere. Her breathing became labored as crimson water instantly emerged and slowly swallowed her. Even under, she heard ferocious growls and squalls of agony. The need to merge out of the bloody water was unrelenting. As she swam up to reach the surface to obtain the oxygen that her lungs were dying to grasp, a monstrous hand grabbed her feet and dragged her further down, preventing her from doing so. Panicking, she screamed! Wasting more oxygen than she needed for her lungs. Not long after, her lifeless eyes watched as the last bubble of air left in her escaped from her mouth and floated up to the surface, where it was compelled to pop. Her breath hitched as she woke up, feeling heavy sweats all over her small form. This was the first nightmare she had, as she felt herself shiver in fear, and then a lone tear glided down her cheek. Swiveling her head to the window, the sun's rays bright light pricked her eyes, to which she squinted. It was time to get up. The loss of her parents still shook her, and she is hoping that it was all a dream, that her parents were still with her, that her father would still teach her, and that her mother would sing lullabies for her. A lone tear cascaded down her left cheek yet again. She stood up from her small bed, mended it before going to the bathroom, and indulged herself in the cold shower. The bathroom she was in was simple, with white tiles on the floor and one vanity on the left with a small sink and a square mirror above it. The toilet was located near the window, and on the right side, there is a bathtub and a shower in one. It's been almost two months since her parents' deaths, but it still shakes her. After doing her morning routine, she chose to wear a simple yellow sundress that ends below her knee, paired with white flat doll shoes. With a heavy sigh, she went downstairs to the living room to do her morning chores but was greeted by two couples that seemed to have been in their thirties, wearing bright smiles. Beside them was the caretaker of the orphanage, Dayanne Wagner. Dayanne expressed the usual neutral expression while looking at her appearance. She liked Dayanne's company in the orphanage. She was sometimes strict with her when it came to doing chores and seldom showed any affection. She was never a motherly figure; however, she was enough to make her feel at home. Her short gray hair was cut short and ended at her neckline. Wrinkles were evident, showcasing her old age. Standing five feet seven, she was still active for a two hundred and fifty-year-old woman. Moreover, she was still stunning in the white dress she wore today, which ends above her knees. The dress hugs her curves; she wore blue rubber shoes underneath. Which oddly complements her dress. Dayanne was a very mysterious person, living a bitter life since she was rejected by her mate for a w***e. Since then, she has never trusted men in her life. She always wanted a family, but it is sad to say she couldn't or wouldn't. Taking care of the orphanage was giving her a bit of bliss to have the opportunity to experience a bit of motherhood. Even though she wasn't as expressive or affectionate, she was doing the best she could. "Good morning, Zainne," Dayanne said softly. "They will be your new family from now on." The eight-year-old Zainne didn't react and just stared at them like a stiff statue. It was sudden. But why now? There were two others who were younger than her and had been adopted a week before by other families. Although they live in the same house, they never get the chance to talk to each other. Same as her, they were traumatized by the deaths of their parents, but she, little by little, was able to cope with her surroundings. Looking at the two couples' big smiles, she felt something in her gut that things would get worse around them. Knowing she had no other relatives, she landed in the pack orphanage, which left her with no choice but to be accepted by another family. The look of worry was evident in her eyes when a decent-looking family adopted her from her pack. Unbeknownst to her, the day she is to be brought to their home is the day when torrential torture will commence. "Shall we discuss this further in my office?" "We'll do." Her stomach twisted as she watched them walk past her with a smile on their faces. "Oh, and Zainne. Go pack your things. We'll wait for you here." She couldn't protest Dayanne's serious look and went back to her room to slowly pack her things. Keenly, in the process of discernment while gnawing her inner cheek from anxiety. It would be promising if I had relatives. Much to her dismay, she was left alone to deal with mortality. Moreover, reality. Years passed by... Her tormentors unknowingly fueled her hopes and determination to find her mate. Now, she was of age, and a few negative thoughts paved the way and became possibilities, especially now that her wolf didn't show up. The saddest thing gave her a pinch of disappointment towards herself, and she was supposed to be accepted even in her pack. She had high expectations from them. However, she was just a complete human in her pack's eyes. She also did not know why, but that did not change the fact that she was far greater than those who bullied her. Always beating them with her dazzling smile and unwavering eupeptic persona. She was hoping that one day her mate would find her, love her, and accept her. That's every she-wolf's dream. Having a family of her own. Filling the gap that she dearly yearned for. Having a mate is the greatest gift the moon goddess could offer. A werewolf's soul is divided in half. That is to say, your mate is your other half. A mate that is short for a soulmate that will pamper her with love. Some aren't even lucky to have one. Either their mate has died or was mated to someone else. While there is a slim chance of having a second-chance mate. Sometimes things don't always go as planned. Growing up to be full of life even though she lived in a tormented, horrendous environment. She was kind, graceful, and bubbly. However, behind her kindness and warm smiles, was a thick wall of brick that blocked her deepest frustration and was starting to crumble. A mate's hope was the one thing that kept her heart from being tainted. Albeit how frustrated she may feel, her kind soul will not falter, for now...
