With the reinforcements flanking him on either side, the first deputy, or maybe he actually was the sheriff, advanced on the van, his gun drawn. “Ah s**t,” Charles said, though his smile didn’t fade. “Redneck retribution.” Behind him, Andy chuckled. “Well, you’ve been looking for an excuse to spread your wings a bit.” Before Andy could reply, deputy #1 shouted. “Step out of your vehicle and walk toward me with your hands up!” He pronounced vehicle, vi-hick-el. “Be a good boy now,” Andy said from the back. “Do what the nice cop says.” Charles didn’t reply.
