Out Of Control

EZRA The carriage ride back home was torture. Seeing my mate’s body, lying there, lifeless had me and my wolf squirming in pain. I was sweating, feeling cold shivers run through my body.  “Alpha, are you okay?” Angus asked, putting his hands on my shoulder. I was hunched against the side of the carriage, looking at the window as the trees passed by, but my mind was back at their castle.  “Rosalyn! Wake up, my dear!” Queen Grace screamed as soon as she was able to come to her senses. Leaning on her daughter’s body while she sobbed uncontrollably. “Alpha, it’s time to go,” Angus repeated. “No,” I said, approaching the princess, her skin was pale, and her body was cold. She must have drowned sometime during the day, and no one found her until now. As I looked outside, I realized the sun had set, and my wolves howled in the distance, sensing something was wrong. They knew she was my mate, and she would have been my Luna, but not anymore.  As I reached for her delicate face, king Cassian pushed me away, angrily.  “Get out of my castle and my lands! I’m sure your people had something to do with this, to act on revenge!” He shouted as the guests stared at me with fear and anger.  “Alpha, let’s go!” Angus said once again, pulling me towards the exit and into our carriage before it took off at a rapid speed.  “We’re here, sir.” I was pulled out of my thoughts as I looked at my castle coming in sight. As soon as we stopped, I didn’t wait for our driver to open the door; I slammed it open and hurried inside.  On my way, I stopped and looked at the horizon, scenting something familiar. And it came from further West, where Amara, our witch, lived.  Ignoring the scent, I shook my head and continued my way in. Some of my warriors stood in front of the castle, bowing their heads.  “Why are you all here? Aren’t you supposed to guard the woods with the others?” I asked, getting deeply upset.  “We have, all night. But we found…” “Ezra, mo phàisde (my baby).” My mother greeted me at the castle door, wrapping her arms around my neck. I pulled away, kissing her hand in respect before I walked past, heading towards the throne room, needing some space to think.  I paced back and forth, feeling my chest constrict and my heart beat rapidly as I remembered her face, so fragile.  She was a porcelain doll; beautiful. And she was mine.  “Aaarrgghhhh!!!” I screamed, not being able to contain the pain anymore. I am given a chance with a true mate, and for what? To just lose her before I even got to meet her? “Ezra, darling. What’s wrong with you?” Mother asked as she walked in, concern plastered on her face.  “I found my mate, Mother. I found her and she’s dead!”  Connal, my wolf kept howling on the inside, making me even angrier. I kept pacing, growling, snarling and finally... losing control. Half shifting, I picked up my throne seat and tossed it against the stone walls, breaking it in pieces. “Ezra, stad (stop)!” Mother ordered. “Your father is dying in our chambers, I don’t need this right now!” “You don’t need this? Do you think you’re the only one suffering?!” I shouted, earning me a hard slap from her.  “I’m your mother. Respect me!”  I lost all my senses, and shifted fully into Connal, charging at her, my fangs sinking on her shoulder. She screamed in pain, trying to shift and defend herself. But I was stronger.  I growled loudly, getting the attention of my warriors and the man I least wanted to see.  “Ezra, let her go!” He shouted and my focus went to where he stood, but this time, I was ready to fight him instead.  “What the hell are you doing here?” I growled in our mind link at Evander, my cousin. “You are not welcome into my home!” “It sucks to be you, Ezra. Your mother sent for me,” he replied smugly, as he circled around me, studying me. “I’m sure with your anger, Cathal could have some fun. Why don’t you pick on someone your own size?” “It would be my pleasure,” I snarled, charging at him at the same time he shifted into his wolf. Cathal looked smaller than me, and with its blonde fur, you would think he was nothing but an innocent creature. But he was vicious and evil, and only I knew it.  Connal was fierce, a black menacing animal ready to attack. One of the most powerful Alphas in the entire country.  “Stad! Please!” Mother shouted before we could even start our fight, her tears rolling down her cheeks as she sat down on the throne seat next to the one I just shattered, holding her bloodied shoulder while Angus hurried to help her.  I looked down in shame, both Evander and I shifting back to our human forms while I turned around to approach her, my naked body sitting in front of her as I laid my head on her lap.  “I’m sorry, Mother. I might be a great Alpha, but I am the worst son,” I whispered, tears of anger and desperation rolling down my face as I felt her soft hand running through my dark hair.  “It’s okay, son. You just have to learn to control your anger. I know you found your mate, and you lost her already, but you need to understand that life goes on. Fight through it and be the Alpha everyone loves and respects." She soothed me with her words.  “With all due respect, Aunt Moira. But he has just committed treason by attacking you, the Luna. He needs to be punished, and I am sure my uncle, if he was in his senses, would agree with me,” Evander suggested as I looked at him with my glowing eyes.  “That’s not true, Evander. He’s his son. He would never do it.” Evander has always wanted to be the Alpha of this pack, stating that I was not the true heir as I was not my father’s blood. Even going as far as threatening me with the council, not knowing Alpha Alistair, my father, had cleared it all out with the elders.  But, these accusations could be my doom, and not even the Luna can save me.  The warriors, by orders of Evander, dragged me to the dungeons as I watched my mother turn her face to the side, not being able to look at me straight into my eyes while her tears kept rolling, her sobs breaking my heart. Angus, for the first time, cried silently in the corner, knowing the fate that awaited me, but I knew what I did, and I was ready to face the consequences.  ♣♣♣♣♣♣ I spent days locked in the damp dungeon, waiting to hear the council's verdict. Will they hang me, behead me or simply, exile me?  As my thoughts kept my mind busy, I heard the doors open, my mother coming down the stairs with her eyes bloodshot red and swollen, her appearance frail and her smile nonexistent. “Oh, mo mhac (my son). I am so sorry for all of this,” she apologized.  “No, Mother. I am the one who should be sorry. I attacked you without reason. You're not only my mother, you're the Luna and that's frowned upon the elders and the entire pack,” I said as she stroked my cheek through the gates, trying to comfort me. “Your father would have been proud of the man you've become. It's too bad he just passed last night. I wish you were able to be there to see him in his last moments.” Hearing the news about my father's passing had me feeling guilt, but I smiled, reassuring her everything would be okay. And I was sure my father would not suffer anymore. I could sense his last moments from here, his last breath. I just hoped this nightmare would be over soon. “Alpha. It is time.” One of the warriors announced.  I nodded, knowing it was my time. They took me out of the cell, leading me to my future, decided by the elders.
