Julia’s POV
The next morning I decided to get room 402 done first thing, just as soon as I knew the morning meetings were well underway. That way there was not much chance of the asshole alpha being in the room.
I opened the door of the room and took a few steps inside, to be met with the most awful stench imaginable. Apparently Alpha Ross, whom I could tell immediately was the room’s occupant, had defecated on the bed, and apparently had clogged up the toilet. I had seen many things in my time as a housekeeper at the Emerald Pack palace, but this was beyond a doubt the some of the most childish and stupid pranks that I had come across.
I immediately decided to nope right out of there! Even if it had not been the room of Alpha Ross, I still would have retreated. This sort of behavior was not to be tolerated! I contacted Cassidy via mind link and told her to inform the head of housekeeping immediately.
Why can’t you do it? Cassidy replied.
I have my reasons, I respond back. Please just do it! I’ll go ahead and do room 310.
Cassidy gives in, but I’m sure I’ll be hearing all about it at lunch today. I just don’t want to be associated with that room in any way. Especially since I noticed something while I was in there so briefly. In a cruel twist of fate, somehow under that disgusting scent of urine and s**t, I could still smell Alpha Ross. And Amethyst began to whine for her MATE!
He’s not our mate! I remind Amethyst as I restart my day by cleaning rooms on the second floor. I rejected him, remember?
He didn’t reject us, though, she counters back. I want him!
I just ignore that, trying to drown the sound of her in my head by vacuuming the room. Then humming while dusting the next room, and singing while cleaning all the bathrooms since I love how my voice sounds in the small enclosed space.
You can’t ignore me forever!
I’m not getting back together with that jerk, I tell her. So just stop nagging me!
I’m pretty sure she was insulted by my calling her out on the nagging, and she refused to talk to me for hours. But it was better than listening to the begging for our mate. I’m not going back to Alpha Ross! No way, no how! It’s not going to happen, ever! That relationship has sailed, and just like the titanic it was sunk just as quickly.
Lunch with Eric and Cassidy was pretty much as expected. Eric works in building maintenance, so he had been called in to determine what other damage had been done to Alpha Ross’s room. He told us all about it.
Apparently Alpha Ross had plugged the toilet with something like a washcloth or two, took a huge dump, and then flushed the toilet several times to make it overflow. Then he smeared his dirty ass all over the bed linens and pillows. Apparently this malicious behavior was being escalated up to the highest level.
“I have to go to a meeting to accuse his nasty ass as soon as my break is over,” Cassidy tells me. “And now I’m going to be running late again two days in a row! And I’ve got a date planned for tonight.”
“Sorry,” I tell her. But I’m not offering to switch any more rooms with her since I’ve already said I’ll do Alpha Gabe’s room. And I’ll probably be running long as well, since quite a few of these Alphas are slobs. Most of the rooms are taking me at least 5-10 minutes longer than normal.
I’m glad now more than ever that I had Cassidy make the complaint, though. I’d rather not face Ross if I can avoid it. Especially with Amethyst being so insistent in wanting our ex mate. That seems like a recipe for disaster to me.
After lunch I’m busy working away on the 3rd floor when I get a mind link from the head of housekeeping to make guest suite 311 and 312 ready as soon as possible, which had previously been unoccupied. I don’t think anything about it, assuming someone must have arrived late. So I do those rooms next, thankful that I had readied a couple of extra rooms the day before yesterday, knowing that sometimes there are late arrivals or there are room changes for whatever reason.
I find the rooms pretty much ready to occupy, all I need to do is add fresh towels and turn on the temperature to an acceptable level.
I leave that room and am working on Gabe’s room when I hear some voices talking out in the hall.
“I can’t believe the head of housekeeping took Alphas side over that of the maid!” I heard Beta Lewis clear as a bell. I hadn’t heard his voice in 3 years, and I wasn’t too sure. I peeked out of Gabe’s room and watched as they struggled to get the door of 311 to open as they talked.
“I can’t believe you were able to sweet talk that maid into going on date with you tonight!” Delta Terry responds with a hearty laugh. “I bet the omega actually enjoys being f****d by the three of us!”
“Try the other key, moron,” Lewis says. “This key might be for next door. And don’t talk about our plan like that out here, where anyone could listen in!”
“Sorry!” Terry replies, and then they head inside the room.
Shit, s**t, s**t! I have got to warn Cassidy! And I’ve got to get out of this room since apparently there is a break right now, and Gabe could be walking in here any second now! Thankfully I was nearly done, so I ran around doing the last minutes things, and spraying the place liberally with sanitizer to mask my scent. I was just pushing my cart towards the next room on my list when Gabe walks past, thankfully not even glancing towards ‘the help’. Whew, that was way too close for comfort!
It’s a good thing that most Alphas don’t take any notice of an omega servant, and that’s exactly what I look like even if my actual blood status is actually much higher. I got busy cleaning my last few rooms, when I realized that in my fright over seeing Gabe that I nearly forgot about Cassidy and the danger she was in!
I mind link her to meet me immediately somewhere after her shift is over. She suggests her last room of the day, 401.
As soon as I’m done, I head up there to tell her what I heard while she continues cleaning the room. Cassidy complains bitterly about her day.
“Do you know that the head actually took that asshat alphas side over mine?” She tells me angrily. “He claims that I must have accidentally left the rag in the toilet, and that he hadn’t noticed the toilet was overflowing! Or that he didn’t notice that his hairy butt had been so dirty! He is such a shithead! And the head made me clean the room, while giving that asshole alpha a whole new room!”
“Listen,” I tell her. “I overheard his men as they were going into the new room. DONT go on that date tonight! It’s a trap, they plan to gang rape you!”
“Wait! What?” She asks shakily, sitting down on the edge of the bed she had just been making. “Are you sure?”
“Was his name Lewis, and a beta by any chance?” I ask.
“He was a beta, yeah,” Cassidy says, looking confused. It certainly is a lot to take in. “But he claimed his name was Larry, and that he was Beta to Alpha Zeke!”
“I bet you anything there is no Alpha Zeke. I think they were lying so you wouldn’t be able to accuse them of any wrongdoing,” I say, and she nods realizing that I’m probably right about that. “I know those men. They are Alpha Ross’s men. My ex mate.”
Cassidy gasps at my little confession.
“Oh wow, it all makes sense now that you mention it,” she says, her eyes round in wonder. “I completely understand why you left that bastard! I might have done the same in your shoes!”
Cassidy still needs to finish up the room, and I need to go get Rowan from the palace daycare. We hug, and then I leave the guest suite in such a rush that I don’t even notice my surroundings. I don’t get far, however, when suddenly I’m grabbed from behind, and then everything goes black for a while.
