Chapter 5
Olivia Herrington
POV
Laying on my bed I couldn’t help thinking about today. It felt as if we were a real family. With Kira hanging onto her father’s arm.
I’ve loved David from the second I laid eyes on him in that bar. I didn’t know it at the moment I met him, but he was different from every other guy I’ve ever known. David was kind, caring and attentive.
Yesterday was one of the most amazing days of my life and I’d never forget it. David actually spoke to me about something other than Kira’s needs. I know he would never love me, but I was hoping he’d give me a little more attention you know.
My new phone rings beside me and I sit up. I see its Bridge. “Livia…” I answer.
“Hey, we’ve got the information off the drive. We just need to send it to the client. Also, we got a new call. Client wants to meet with you personally.” He tells me.
“Not interested. Tell them to meet with Carla or no one. I’m not interested.” I hang up.
I take out my laptop and log onto the server. I take a look at the job and frown when I see who the client is.
I sigh. I call Bridge back. “I’ll meet with him.” I say before hanging up.
Jacob Herrington needs help cleaning up his reputation.
I roll my neck cracking it.
I check into the information. I do look Jacob up. The first thing that pops up on my google search is a lengthy list of women on his arm. He is up for a promotion and needs to clean up his act if he wants it.
I haven’t even done a deep search yet and it doesn’t look good.
“Why are you looking up my brother?” David’s voice from behind me startles me. I’d forgotten he was home. I’m so used to being alone.
I shut my laptop and turn to him.
“Nothing. I-I was just curious about your family.” I lie.
He looks at me. He takes a seat beside me on the sofa. “What do you want to know?” He asks.
I don’t answer right away…
“Well as you know I’m the eldest, then there’s Jacob the second eldest, he is a surgeon, the only one of my brothers not to take up law enforcement, he always has a good brain on his head, how his love for the opposite s*x can be little out there.” He shrugs his shoulders.
“Does he not believe in love?” I ask.
He shrugs his shoulders. “It’s not that he doesn’t believe in love, it’s that he chooses not to get involved with women. He had a bad break up when he was in high school, and it scarred him for life.” He tells me.
I nod, making a mental note of what questions to ask him, when we meet. Though I have no idea if David ever plans to introduce me to his family, it could get weird with his brother knowing what I do, and he doesn’t know a thing.
“I’ve been thinking…” David says bringing me out of my thoughts I look at him.
“When we met you told me, you wanted the whole fairytale ending, the white picket fence, the house full of kids and a happy marriage. I took all that away from you…” he begins to say but I cut him off.
“It’s not like that. I’m grateful to you and everything you’ve done for me. When my parents kicked me out of their house and I was sleeping in my best friend’s dorm room you took me in, married me and you gave me the best gift of all, Kira. I’d never trade that for the world.” I was truly grateful, I might not have a house full of children, but I have a husband I love, I don’t want the whole picket fence anymore, I have a beautiful home, David spent his time off, renovating, it’s so much better than any house on the market in my opinion. Though I did enjoy watching him shirtless in the backyard working hard.
One other thing is I love Kira with all my heart I wouldn’t trade my daughter for anything. She’s the light in the darkness. She is all my entire heart, well half my heart belongs to her father, though I’d never admit it.
He smiles. “That wasn’t what I meant. A buddy of mine was speaking about his wife, how when we get home from, they plan to start trying for a second baby.” He tells me.
I look up at him. “That’s nice…” I say confused.
He chuckles lightly. “I’m messing this up. I was wondering if you want more children…” he asks.
My eyes widen. “You actually want more children with me?” I blurt out in surprise.
He frowns slightly. “I mean you’re my wife, if I don’t have children with you who will I have children with?” he asks.
I shake my head. “No, I don’t mean like that. When we met, I remember you told me you weren’t sure if you ever want kids, I know you love Kira, but I didn’t know you’d want more…” I was at a loss for words. I was blurting out things I didn’t want to.
He looks at me for a second. “I mean if you don’t want to do the deed we could look into other ways, adoption, that where they stuck you full of needles and I have to jerk off in a cup…” he says softly, his eyes darkening.
“I mean- I don’t know what to say…” no words came to mind. I’ve never in a million years thought we’d ever have this conversation.
He goes to say something but his phone rings. He takes it out of his pocket and looks at the screen. “So I have to take this, it’s my team.” He says getting up.
I nod.
I sit there for I don’t know how long. I couldn’t believe he wants to have another child with me.
“Livy.”
“Livy!” David shouts my name.
I look up at him.
“I’m going to pick Kira up from school. Why don’t you relax?” he asks.
I nod. Not saying anything, I was in a daze. I needed to look into Jacob’s past and make sure nothing was going to throw me off guard. I can’t just take the job because he is my brother-in-law. And he doesn’t even know he is.
