Michael's POV
She was awake. I couldn't believe it. My beautiful angel was awake and she didn't fall back to sleep this time she had actually asked me to kiss her. After holding and kissing her for a while she looked at me and asked what she was doing in a hospital bed. "Did things go bad with my uncle? Why can't I remember anything?" I could tell she was upset and worried and I told her that I would explain what I could when the doctor came to examine her. The doctor came in to examine her and I told her I was leaving her with Chad as I needed to call her brothers. Her eyes filled with tears as she said "my brothers? Really? I get to see them. Do they know where I am? Oh my God I can't believe I'm going to get to see them again. But wait will they be safe seeing me? Maybe they don't want to see me I was really awful the last time I talked to them." Her insecurities were shining through, she always put on such a brave front so when her insecurities poked through, I knew it was hard for her. She loved her brothers and she was a warrior a protector. She had sacrificed her happiness and wellbeing because these men she loved were in danger if she didn't. She sacrificed getting away because women she cared about were in the same position as she was and had no hope of escape if she didn't help. She put her body and life on the line to save the lives our beautiful baby daughters and it seems that she doesn't remember them. That last bit killed me and I just hoped that the memory of them would come in time. "I promise everything is fine they are going to be so happy to see you awake and smiling.
I looked at Chad and said "take care of her while I'm gone." He smiled and said "not going to let anything happen to this princess warrior." She blushed at that and I ducked out the door to call the guys. As I was on the phone with them the doctor came out and asked me how soon I could get her family here he needed to discuss things with us about her amnesia. I filled in the guys that the doctor wanted to talk with us all and needed them here as soon as possible. The guys all said they would be there in no less than twenty minutes and I knew they would. I was concerned. She had amnesia what could that mean? I've dealt with people with amnesia who have woken up after a trauma and in some ways it's good but in some ways it's bad. Also, you have to be careful of the information that you give to them right out the gate because too much information could overload them and send them straight back into a coma or worse kill them. I couldn't bear the thought of losing her any of those ways again. I've spent too much time without her already. I want nothing more than to spend the rest of our lives together and raise our beautiful little girls and hopefully a handful more little gems. I wouldn't care if we had all girls as long as they are as beautiful as their mother.
When I went back into the room, I could see worry etched on Chad's face. He was thinking the same thing as I was. Hell, we both had a case where the victim had woken up with amnesia, been fed to much information to fast and it overtaxed their heart and killed them. Elizabeth, God I loved that name and would never use that other one ever again, was staring at me. "Michael what did you mean you wanted to be there to watch the next pregnancy? I'm not pregnant right, now am I?" I so wanted to tell her everything and spill it all out to her but I couldn't risk it until I knew more. "Honey let me talk to the doctor and find out what I can tell you and how I should break the news to you. There are a lot of things you are missing out on and I'm not sure what I should share and what you need to come around to naturally." "How much time am I missing?" She asked quietly. I wanted to answer her more than anything. I wanted to spill it all out to her and help her remember but I was also scared of what it would do to her. I needed to confirm with the doctor and her brothers how to best go forward from this point. I don't think it was anything we all could see happening. I think we all dreamed of her waking up and everything being ok. I figured I would have a few wrinkles to work out with her seeing me supposedly die and all but I knew our love was strong and that I would be able to make her understand. I once again excused myself and told her when I came back, I would be bringing her brothers. I asked if she wanted anything from the cafeteria while I was away and she smiled "oh a huge juicy cheeseburger please! I haven't had one of those since I was sixteen on my way to uncles with my brother." I smiled back at her and said "you got it then. Anything for my woman." God, I loved to see her smile.
David’s POV
Michael had called Larry on his phone and asked to be put on speaker. Larry motioned for all of us to quiet down and we did. He then told us that Michael was on the phone and that Elizabeth had woken up. We all quieted down so that we could hear what Michael was saying. We couldn’t believe what he was telling us. Our sister was awake but she couldn’t remember anything from the last eight months. Just then we heard the doctor come in and speak to Michael requesting that her family be here as soon as possible so that he could discuss her medical condition with us all. Larry looked at all of us and said “we will all be there in about twenty minutes. With that not a single one of us were wasting any time. Just then Amber spoke up and said “Priscilla and I will stay here with the babies. We just want to know one thing is anyone of the newbies over here staying behind to watch over us?” The answer was yes they would be staying behind to ensure the safety of those left in the house for the time being. With that we headed out the door and made a beeline straight to the hospital. In the car I looked at my brothers and said “no matter what the doctor tells us we need to be optimistic and we need to protect our sister as much as we possibly can. While I realize those guys are here to protect and they have a bond with her, she’s not their sister she’s ours.” The guys all nodded their heads in agreement and we finished the ride in quiet. When we got to the hospital we were led to the conference room and were surprised to find that Michael wasn’t there yet. Then we were informed that he would be with us shortly he had went back to Elizabeth’s room to spend the few minutes with her before the meeting. We were all right. We couldn’t have asked for a better man to love our sister. I only hoped that some day I found the one man that would give his all for me.
Michael’s POV
I left the room and went to find the conference room that we were all going to meet in. The guys were all already there and when I arrived Brian grabbed the phone and dialed up the doctor to let him know that everyone was waiting for him. The guys were all buzzing that their baby sister was awake and smiling. They were nervous about seeing her. Afraid that she hated them. I assured them that nothing was further from the truth and that she was actually just as nervous to see them. The doctor came in within a few minutes of being called and introduced himself to everyone. Then he shook Brian's hand and said "I'm actually quite pleased that you are among the family members for this young lady. Let's get down to it shall we gentlemen? Yes, your loved one is awake. She's been comatose for the last sixteen days. As it turns out as long as her babies have been alive pretty much. She has amnesia and can't seem to remember anything from the last eight and a half months." I could hear her brother’s gasp. One of them piped up and said "wait does that mean she doesn't remember having her babies?" The doctor looked at them all sadly and said "that's exactly what it means. In fact, she doesn't even remember being pregnant. Here's the problem we are facing. Her injuries were so severe when she came in that nobody really expected her to wake up. The only thing I can say is that it has to be one powerful love connection that brought her out of the coma when it did." He looked at Brian and said "as you know the longer a patient remains in a coma the less likely they are to wake from it. Usually if we don't get them to wake up in a few days the chances are very slim. But the fact that she doesn't remember anything since before she knew she was pregnant explains why keeping the babies in the room with her didn't help any. She didn't know they were hers."
"Ok doc so how do we go about letting her know about the babies? Is it something we can tell her about? What else can we tell her and what do we need to do to help her?" The doctor smiled and said "I don't believe that telling her about the babies and showing her the paperwork from the hospital where they were born is going to cause her any harm for one. She may have some trouble comprehending it at first but she seems like she has a good head on those shoulders. Having the babies and being pregnant isn't the trauma that caused her memory loss. The traumatic event causing the block is going to be the main area that we need to avoid or take slow. But she also has been through some very bad trauma's in the last several months and anything from those traumas could trigger a complete shutdown of her system. You are going to have to proceed with caution when it comes to how much information that you give her. I understand that she is a key witness in a strong case but that is going to have to be put off or she will have to be taken off the list because remembering that stuff right now will kill her." I looked at the doctor and said "duly noted. The prosecutor will make sure that her health and wellness is the first priority."
