We decide to stop by a bakery to buy some muffins, it feels like ever since we had, had it the last time. Ancy has many things that she likes when it's about the desert, since muffins are always easy at price and filling we settled to buy three of them. I paid the amount that I got at the boutique. It was quite late out on the streets, dark and isolated. Since our homes not on any specific block the area aren't safe. I clutched Ancy's hands tighter and we walked along the footpath with a comfortable silence. The day had let both us sort our thoughts out and it clearly showed how refreshed we were. I was in the middle of my thoughts when I heard a group of junky tanned boys whispering and staring at us, I didn't realize how long they had been doing that for, but it sickened me. "Ancy walk faster and reach home as soon as you can okay, don't worry about me I will be fine, now goo" I screeched when I saw the boys starting to make their move at us, they were 5 or 6 of them and they were on bikes, no use of running if only I knew what they wanted. Mostly money, it's that, I didn't try running then. I looked behind and then at them slowly I took out all the money that was left at change after spending at the bakery. I looked at them on purpose again and put down the money on the ground. I quickly turned and started walking again. Hopefully, they will leave me alone now I started walking as fast as I could It was cold but I was sweating. Ancy
was already out of the scene. I heard one then two and then I didn't keep a count the
bikes had followed off course they didn't want the money, but what did they want, they caught up with me pretty fast. I couldn't run or scream, an isolated place like this u wouldn't get anyone to help you out, and even if someone heard you there is only one chance in the blue moon that he or she would care enough to come by and help. There were so many of them with their headlights on, it was blinding me, I couldn't gather myself. There was this hipster-like dressed boy, he looked the youngest among them with curly hair. He must have been my age. He was on the ground with hands in the pocket, blowing smoke. The smoke clouded his face making it impossible to see through him. He was the first one to speak. Damn it, I have imagined our encounter so many times and I guess this is the best version
yet. He said sarcastically. Whomever the hell of a street hipster he was, he surely knew how to get on someone's nerves. "What do you want," I said trying my best to not let my body shiver affect my voice. Front and direct, so I too shall cut to the point. Where is the chip.? He said pressing each word. "What..aaa chip, I don't have any chip. " I said rudely.
"We don't prefer getting bloody," he said getting what seemed like a gun out into his hands. Is this a criminal who ran from jail, if he had a gun, I am sure the rest of them have it too. and I am surrounded by all of them, I can't even escape without hurting myself. They were getting closer to me, gun in their hands," where Is it ?" He Said more harshly this time. This time I got scared. I didn't reply for some time I needed some time to figure out how to get out of this. " Oh, u mean the chip is it.!" I said much normally now. His head snapped on top and he looked at me, he had grey eyes. "Yes," he said slowly. I put my hands carefully inside my pocket and took it out, oh are you by any chance looking for this? I said, holding up my middle figure, right in front of his face. And then I made the run, they weren't expecting it so it has a lead. I ran through their human-made boundaries but not fast enough. One of the men caught me by his hand and raised me off the ground. They started speaking. The man was clutching me so hard. I smelt something metallic. When I opened my eyes and saw it was the gun he was caught in his other hand. I carefully but quickly grabbed it from his hand. Luckily man's grip on the gun was not so good, after all, he was hoisting me up and I knew I was not feather kg. Two other men came to me,
Trying to get the gun out of my hand " move before I shoot u "I Said, just to get them back off. The husky man from whom I had grabbed the gun was still rooted in the same place.
Holding me upside down by my waist. He held me so tight I felt like all the muffins were going to make their way out of my mouth soon. My vision was upside down and it was getting hazier. The two-man had managed to pin my hand, the one that didn't have the gun. I heard so many people speaking now, shouting to be careful, to get the gun and someone wanted to search the chip out of me. I felt like the gun was slowly slipping through my hands.BOOM! that was a shot, a clear shot and I zoomed out.
Novah, nov-wake up! I flicked my eyes open I knew Ancy was shaking me. I was lying a hard ground, cold am I dead its so Cold. It was the road, many people were walking around me. I slowly got up, some feet apart from me there was another body lying down, I don't know who it was but they had out a white cloth on top of him,...he must be dead W..HAt wait dead. Ancy what happened. I looked at her; she was sitting next to me.
"You shot someone and then you blacked out. "she said bluntly. When u asked me to run, I ran, I did till I saw a cop! They took me along with them and I guided them here! "when we
came that big boy waa hanging catching u, and there was a shot, the cops saw everything,
" She said. I could see her coal-black eyes in the dim light. Her cheeks were puffed up and red must be because of the cold. She looked so tired. "I am so proud of you," I Said. I got up slowly. And as soon as I did a cop took over. The people who had crowded upon you, do you have any idea who they were? He asked. I shook my head." Did they injure you? what did they want from you?." " no they didn't ..as u can see, only some bruises here and their., they wanted....... a chip! Furthermore, I said, trying to remember all that had happened to be for I zoned
out. The officer just looked slightly longer at me and then wrote it down on his notepad. Another cop walked towards me, he extended his hand "This is Joff. "You have no charges against you since we have witnessed it, it been considered as a victim's self-defense case," he said, handing me back my phone, which must have fallen while all of this was taking place. "But this does not end here, there will be some more procedures," he Said elongating the last word. "Starting with, we need to talk with your parents, " he said and then looked at me and Ancy. No..if they find out we don't have parents and then the whole cover of Oliver just opens out it will be a bigger mess then it already is. Yes!!! You may talk to them, but at present, as you already know how late it is and after all that happened today, I think we owe an explanation to our parents first." I said."Sure, now we shall drop you off at your house, that we way can check-in tomorrow and talk to your parents. He said before I could come up with a plan to get him off the hook we were already being escorted and seated in the car Ancy sat close to me. Clutching me I knew she was thinking what I was,..what are we going to do. The ride was short and they stopped right in front of our house, I had given the exact location. I knew they would wait until we walked in. They were already suspicious, cause, in any other scenario, the child's parents would have been banging their heads upon the safety of citizens by now. But here it was a totally a different case, I think they should be happy to get less load, .. but. I am guessing the cops don't like that. They followed us till we entered and even inside, "without further delay, I am going to have to put a sensor right here in your house entrance doorknob. We will be here early in the morning. And if the door opens the sensor goes off, this is done just to get back at the location easily tomorrow." White lies much. " just one last question. Are your parents home now? He asked moving his head from side to side.
"No...no they aren't here" I stammered, I shouldn't have."Well, they work late, they will be here soon, after you are gone and then sometimes, you know! However, I said, trying my best to cover up. "Yes sure will be the first thing here tomorrow," He Said and turned right over and left, closing the sensed door behind him. Whoof!! After my dad's been dead we are being showered with nonsense. I slowly made myself to our room with Andy's help. My body was aching head to toe. Not that bruised. "What is this chip." Ancy Said .. "I don't know either," I think that was a false alarm for them, some must have played them tipped them off for something they wanted bad. Cause they looked too serious to be playing around with us.
They must have been looking for someone else. It has to be that. But whatever they were searching for has to be very important, they were loaded not only with bullets but also with anger. But the chips paying the price for us. However I wonder a chip which is so small, how can it make these people so angry."What's going to happen tomorrow?" Ancy asked again breaking the silence. "We are going to run "I bluntly stated. Ancy gave me a horrified look. "They have put a sensor on our main door Novah," she said as a matter of fact. Furthermore, I know, this house is small and no one would have guessed it but all houses gave two or three entries, for us, we have two its not a legal entry but yet it's going to be our way out of this mess. Our room window, I said and we both turned our heads towards the window. I imagined ourselves getting past it. "So?" She responds, visibly exasperated. She slumps herself on our bed and smiles wryly. I know what you wanted to do Novah but is not there any other way of this? We can tell them the truth. If that doesn't work we can always go to the authorities! No, I cut in, unable to hide my frustration. We'd been over this last night
also, "We.Are.Not.Going.To.The.Authorities.Do you hear it? Subsequently, She nods meekly, not fighting again my words. I didn't trust the authorities. On the contrary, If we were to go to them and tell them about our situation, it would be the end of everything. Not to mention all the questions that they would bombard us with. They were going to enquire about our living situation and how we managed to survive on our own for so long. It must be illegal for all we know. Plus, I continue knowing what I was about to say would close the topic for good, If we do go to the authorities then it's highly likely that we will be separated. Do you want us to get separated?" I asked with a raised brow. I was just going to become 18, but not yet and Ancy is running
11. Once they know our parents aren't there and I am not 18. They will put Ancy and me up for adoption. Even though I am just some months away and after that, I can take up Ancy all on my own but not until then. We got separated is something I have been trying not to think about since Oliver died. Ancy shakes her head, her bottom lip wobbling, " Never," she whispers as she tears up again, "I just wish mom was her. We wouldn't need to worry
about anything if she was! Additionally, she cried out loudly and I feel myself break a little. Nope, I wasn't going to cry. Crying didn't change a damn thing."Come here", I sit down next to her and gesture to her to scoot over. She reaches out and hugs me tightly, her small hands digging into my waist, as she continues to sob. "I wish she was here too. Everyday," I say quietly whilst stroking her dark half braided hair, "but it's not going to happen. However, no amount of wishing or crying will change that. It's been so many years and we are still headstrong, aren't we?" "Yeah, I guess so." She replies softly, sniffing into my dusty dirty clothes now don't put it noes into this dust and drench my clothes. I need to wear this tomorrow too."That's a good girl." I plant a kiss on her forehead, "just remember no matter what happens, where ever we go, we will have each other. I will never leave you! Moreover, She looks up then and smiles her nose getting red, "you promise? "I promise," I confirm firmly.
