Chapter 7 - MATE!

1694 Words
Megan I woke up in the early hours of the morning with a slight light shining through between two curtains. Stretching, I tried to get the stiffness of sleeping on the chair out of my limbs. I went upstairs for a bath and put on a powder blue dress. Looking at myself in the mirror, I realized that I had completely changed from the youngster that ran away. I now had beautiful blond hair. My skin was glowing and looking healthy. I was wearing pastel colors and dresses! The girl that ran away had black-colored hair, was as thin as a stick, with skin that looked like death was around the corner, and only wore long-sleeved shirts and torn blue jeans. As I was assessing my appearance, I hoped that this comparison would hide my identity. I had to go into town to find out what the latest gossip was. Who were the Alpha’s, if any? How was the territory divided? “Well, you are not going to get answers by staring at yourself all day!” Samantha screamed at me, while I stood lost in my own little world. “Right. Time to face some people”. I grabbed my bag and keys. The town has not changed much since I left. There was the odd new building, but it mostly stayed the same beach town I remembered. All different shops sell locally produced products. I made my way to the local mall. There was a square surrounded by restaurants and cafés overlooking the ocean. It was the center of life in town. It was a mixture of local and tourist life. All I had to do was sit down in one of the cafés, with my tablet pretending to read, and I would be able to hear all the gossip without having to interact with anyone. It was the perfect plan. At least I thought so. “You did not consider that you are an early bird and other people have to work first.” Storm said sarcastically. “What is going on with you two?” I asked, irritated at their tone of voice. “We don’t know. Ever since we saw the black wolf, we've felt restless. Maybe it is your fault for fearing him.” I knew they were trying to blame me because I was confused as well. “It is easier to gang up on the human, huh? That is why we are here taking a chance to go into public.” I tried to comfort them, and myself. Samantha whimpered and went quiet. I found a quiet café, sat down, and ordered a piece of cheesecake and a cappuccino. I had my film star sunglasses on, but nothing out of the ordinary that would attract unwanted attention. Opening my tablet, I started to write. It felt good sitting outside, in the shade, writing. I inhaled all the different smells from all the different eateries around the square. Cocoa and musk … I took a deep breath in and let it out, and that damn smell was gone. It was still early morning and the square was quiet. I paid my bill and went for a walk on the beach. The feel of the sand under my feet was incredible. “Mental note … Make time to run on the beach before we return home.” Samantha and Storm were both clearly back. I was looking down at the waves flowing in and out. I was so mesmerized that I did not see the brick wall standing in front of me smiling at me … Anthony She was breathtaking. She had always been beautiful, but the way she looked with her hair blowing in the wind, walking barefoot on the sand, looking down at the waves, she was breathtaking! I thought to myself, fighting to keep my heart rate down. “It is time she met us,” my wolf Lunar said, putting an end to my daydream. We have been looking after her since she was little. Her father told me to keep her safe. Those were his last words to us, and I promised. “She is a true beauty.” This time it was Lunar who was daydreaming. I lost my perspective for a second, and she walked right into me. I stumbled backwards as she fell right on top of me. We jumped apart, both apologizing, and her cheeks turned the same shade of pink as her bag. I couldn’t have planned our first meeting better myself. She was not supposed to know how I came to be there and that I knew her and was her protector. After the attack and the boldness of the attacker earlier in the week, I had to move closer to her while keeping my cover. I had planned to introduce myself as a possible friend, knowing she did not befriend anyone easily. Under the circumstances, after the attack, she might be inclined to accept friendship. “Hi, I am Anthony. Sorry if I hurt you in any way.” I smiled at her. “Hum, Hi, Megan. No, and I have to go.” She blushed a darker shade of pink and quickly walked away. She smelled of roses and mint. “MATE … MATE … MATE …” Lunar was screaming inside, and it took everything inside me to hold him back. Megan I was innocently looking down at the waves and suddenly, I was lying on top of the Greek god that was on the plane. Cocoa and Musk … “MATE … ” Both Samantha and Storm shouted. How on earth? We jumped apart, he introduced himself as Anthony and mumbled an apology, and me being who I am, I gave him my name … my real name. “i***t … ” I ran off as quickly as I could. It all happened so fast. All I could think about was getting back home to the safety of my house and the closed doors. Away from this smell that was turning my insides into butterflies. I had to really try to keep my knees together on my drive home. My body was pulsating all over. Samantha and Storm were no help! They were screaming for our mate. Horny little wenches! My skin was burning, and my breathing was shallow, but I finally made it home. Rushing inside, I locked the door behind me, ran up the stairs and climbed into the shower with my clothes still on, and turned on the cold water. “Enough peopling for one day … ” I think my system went into shock not only seeing people around me, but touching someone. Not just someone. A man … Our Mate … A Greek god … with a chiseled jaw … beautifully tanned. Six, no eight-pack defined. “Stop it, Samantha!” I shook my head to clear the image out of my thoughts. “He was not that handsome!” “That intoxicating smell … Cocoa and musk … ” Storm was clearly daydreaming. “Are you kidding me right now?” Were they both drooling??!! I had to think fast. If my mate were here, he would follow me. He would find me. What if he was part of my old pack? No, it couldn’t be! I remember smelling the scent in the city as well. Had he been following me all this time? Was he one of uncle Henry’s goons? Was my cover blown and I never realized it? “Well, there’s not much I can do about it at this stage, I guess.” I rolled my eyes. I had become totally insane in my old age and am still talking to myself. Shrugging it off, I climbed out of the shower, took off my soaked clothing and hung it up to dry. If it so happens that my family no longer rule the territory, I would show whoever dared to trespass that this particular property was taken. No trespassers were allowed. They would pay the ultimate price for the first time, without warning! I was the daughter of an Alpha. Losing my parents at a young age and leaving my pack and territory did not take away my stubbornness or the commanding aura. It was what helped me survive all those years on my own. I was lucky to have been taught by my father how I had to think innovatively to protect the pack and not just depend on brute force. “Knowledge is the key, my girl,” he would say. “You can hit just as hard with a clever move and not lose one life, as with a brutal move and possibly lose many lives”. But none of that was going to help me while I was standing around the bathroom naked! I got dressed and walked downstairs to make myself a cup of coffee. The brown wolf did not look that clever. Then the image of the black wolf popped into my head… Who was he and where did he come from? He did protect me, after all. I frowned at myself as I realized that he was also trespassing in the first place! Sitting at the kitchen table, my thoughts drift to this morning. How intimate and full of character the café was. The waitress radiated a comfortable, friendly feeling. I felt comfortable sitting in public in that ambiance, relaxed … “Mate,” Samantha says. “Hmm… Cocoa and musk…!” Storm is still drooling. I had never seen Storm act like this. Sam, I could understand, but Storm. My heart started racing when I thought about the Greek god and his tan and muscles. If Samantha hadn't told me to close my mouth, I would have sat there drooling like an i***t all night. “Enough of the outside world!” I demanded, slamming my fist on the counter. I needed to go running or take a cold shower or something! I darted up the stairs, deciding a cold shower should do the trick. I wasn’t ready to go back outside just yet.
