Luna Princess Ayla
My stomach was in knots as Nate walked me to the hospital on the main floor of the pack house. I was thankful he was called away, and the doctor led me into a room. My hands trembled as the doctor handed me a cup and directed me to the nearest washroom. I needed to pee in the cup, but I felt more like vomiting. How can this be happening? I wasn’t claimed yet.
When I was done filling the cup, I looked at myself in the mirror as I washed my hands. I looked like a mess. My hair was thrown up, and my skin was blotchy. I had dark circles around my eyes. I looked like I’d aged ten years overnight.
I sighed as I picked up the cup. There was no turning back now, even if I wasn’t ready and my life was a complete mess.
“We have Nate, Ayla. It may not have happened when you wanted, but it happened with the person who you wanted. Be thankful.” Kaia said as I walked back into the room with the waiting doctor. She was right about one thing: Nate would be an amazing father.
“I’m just going to test this before we move on to the other tests. You mentioned that you had an IUD?” The doctor asked as I took a seat on the exam table.
“I did, yes. I’m not sure how this could have happened. Everything was following the mermaid side and I wouldn’t have had my wolf yet,” I explained.
“Mhm. Do you have a doctor who is a mermaid?” He dipped a pregnancy test into my urine.
“She is the one who inserted the IUD,” I replied.
“Luna, when I examined you after your attack, I didn’t see strings from the IUD. They could have been higher, but I suspect it was forced out during your attack.” I chewed my bottom lip as he explained. I didn’t even think about having it checked.
“I don’t understand, I just claimed Nate, and my doctor did a pregnancy test before the IUD,” I told him.
“It may have been too soon for the test to pick up when it was given. I won’t know until I perform an ultrasound.” He picked up the test as I anxiously waited.
“Your wolf was correct, Luna, you are pregnant,” he said. My hands trembled in my lap as I stared at the doctor. This was all happening so fast.
I jumped when the doctor touched my hands. He gave me a warm smile.
“This is such great news, Luna. I know you are scared, but you have a great alpha by your side and a pack who loves you.” He reassured me.
“Now, let's go see our little heir.” I nodded, and he led me out of the room and into one with a machine beside a bed.
“Lay down and expose your lower belly.” He instructed.
I did what he asked. My heart was pounding in my chest as I waited for the doctor. I felt guilty for not telling Nate, but I had to be sure. This was going to change everything.
I let out a squeal when a cold gel hit my bare belly.
“Sorry, Luna, it can be a bit cold,” he chuckled before moving the gel around with the wand. I looked up at the ceiling, trying to slow down my racing heart.
“How long is a mermaid pregnancy?” He asked.
“I don’t know,” I stammered. He was watching the screen, which I couldn’t see.
“Wolves are pregnant for about thirty weeks. When did you say your last period was?”
“It was after the last full moon. It was lighter than my other periods, and it only lasted three days,” I answered.
“Any cramping?” I shook my head.
“I will need to consult with a doctor who is a mermaid, but the fetus is measuring around eight weeks." He turned the screen, so I could see, but I was working out the dates in my head.
“I don’t understand, how can that be possible?” I exclaimed.
“Luna, it's okay. In, wolf weeks, you would be around the sixth-week mark. I will do some research into mermaid pregnancies. If they are shorter, it would explain the growth. Also, alpha pups are usually bigger. Everything is going to be okay.” He assured me.
“Can I have a moment, I need to link my mate?” I mumbled, looking at the screen the doctor had turned towards me.
“Of course, just link me when you’re ready,” he said before wiping off the gel from my stomach. I didn’t move as I stared at the screen. There was a tiny bean that would soon grow into our baby.
“Nate,” I called through the link.
“Baby, what's wrong? Are you still with the doctor?” He linked back quickly.
“I’m okay, I’m still with the doctor, but I need you,” I whispered as my body trembled. I can barely take care of myself, and now I’m going to be taking care of a baby.
“I’ll be right there,” he rushed out.
I sat up and swung my legs over the side of the bed as I waited for my mate.
“Ayla, we can do this. You aren’t alone.” Kaia encouraged.
I heard a commotion on the other side of the door before it was thrown open. Nate rushed to me, taking hold of my cheeks.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” I looked up into his worried eyes. I couldn't say it.
“Look,” I pointed at the screen with our unborn baby’s picture. He turned his head before he quickly looked back at me.
“I don’t understand,” he stammered.
“I’m pregnant.”
