Chapter Thirteen

1202 Words
Luna Princess Ayla When everything was out in the open, I felt like I could relax. I was terrified about telling my father about my mother and then the baby. I know he wanted us to wait, but this little bean had other plans. Thea, Liz, and Ruby have been planning everything and showing me all these cute baby clothes online. Thea just had twin boys, which I adore, but she's still excited to be a grandmother. My heart twisted painfully at the thought of my mother never getting the chance to hold her grandchild. I wish she could be here with me. A squeal pulled me back to the present. Rosie ran over to the edge of the pool, looking adorable in her tutu pink bathing suit. I was already in the water splashing my fins around. This morning sickness has been unbearable, and I've been in here since I woke up. "Mermaid," she screamed before she jumped in. "Rosie," our father scolded, but I had her. I would never let anything happen to her. I ducked under the water and scooped her into my arms before resurfacing. She coughed up some water but was too excited to care. "So pretty," she said in awe as she ran her little hands up my scaled arms. I looked up to see our father standing over us. "Beautiful," he smiled. "Thanks, dad." "Teach me to swim," Rosie kicked her legs and I giggled. "Are you going to be okay with her? Thea needs some help with the boys?" my father asked. "I have her, dad, I would never let anything happen to her," I told him as she blew bubbles. "Rosie, be good for your sister," he gave her a pointed look. "I'm always good," she huffed and I smirked. Little Miss Sassypants. "Liz and Ruby should be here soon," he told me. "We will be fine, Dad, go," I insisted. He finally went into the pack house to help his mate while I taught my sister how to swim. She was a fast learner, but it was still a lot of work to move her tiny arms and legs enough to keep a float. She had more fun riding on my tail as I swam the length of the pool. Nate was hanging out with friends while I hung out with Rosie. Thea asked us to take care of the kids tonight while she goes out with my father for some much-needed time alone. I was happy to do it, not only because I love them all so much already, but because Nate and I are going to need the practice. Rosie was practicing her jumping, and I was catching her when a growl rang out from the side of the pool. I snapped my attention to the sound, holding Rosie tightly to my chest after she jumped to me. "It would seem the bastard is back," she snarled. It was Bailey. The woman who thought she was good enough for my mate, but I knew better. She wanted him more now that he was an alpha. But, he's my alpha. "That's Luna Princess to you," I smirked. She growled again as she balled up her firsts. "And this time I have a wolf. So, if you were smart, you'd back away and forget ever meeting me." "You stole him from me. Turned him against me and now, you are his Luna," she forced out through clenched teeth. "Ayla, what is she talking about?" Rosie looked up at me while she played with my hair. "It's nothing, Sweetie. But I think we should go eat some lunch," I told her. She pouted as I swam over to the stairs before I shifted back. Scales covered my body in armor as the threat was still standing by, and I would do anything to protect my baby sister. I lifted Rosie and placed her on my hip before stepping out of the pool using the stairs. "You are such a f*****g freak," Bailey yelled as she stamped towards us. Water flowed out of the pool and wrapped around us and when it fell away, I was holding a black trident. She stopped in her tracks and her eyes went wide. "Nate," I called through the link. I needed him here, or I was going to kill her. Kaia was growling in my head, ready to attack her for threatening me, my sister, and our pup. "Nate deserves better than a fish," she crossed her arms over her chest. "She's not a fish, she's a pretty mermaid, you meany," my sister defended, and I smirked at her cheekiness. Rosie then got distracted by the shiny trident in my hand. "How the hell can you have everyone fooled?' Bailey scoffed. "I don't understand why you are even here. Nate has never wanted you. Even if I wasn't his mate, you still wouldn't have a chance in hell," I retorted, and her face grew red. I must have hit a nerve. "I'm of rank. I deserve someone like him. Not some bastard fish," she screamed. Where the hell is Nate? I'm tired of dealing with this. She took a step towards us and I lowered the trident, pointed it at her chest. I looked at her, daring her to fight me. I will take her down with a toddler on my hip. And that was the moment Nate and his friends came around the house. I watched as they all stopped in their tracts. This must have been a sight. Bailey started sobbing, and I rolled my eyes at the display. "Baby," Rosie mumbled, and I had to force down the laughter that bubbled. "I'm hungry," she then whined as she traced over some of my scales. "Baby, are you okay?" Nate rushed up to me and I threw the trident back into the pool before I embraced him. The water engulfed the weapon and it disappeared. "Nate, she was going to kill me. She threatened me and I did nothing to her," Bailey cried, before I could answer my mate. "I'm sorry, were you in the pool minding your own business? No, you came out here looking for a fight. I'm not sure why. I don't care that you hate me. I haven't thought about you at all since I left this place the last time. The time I almost killed you and when I walk away I won't think about you ever." "What the hell is going on out here?" My father's commanding voice filled the air. "I'm going to feed Rosie, you can handle this," I pecked Nate's lips before I headed inside with Rosie on my hip. I wanted no part in this. She was batshit crazy, and I would have felt sorry for her if she hadn't been so entitled. The goddess gave me Nate. If you don't like it, take it up with her. "She is never getting our mate," Kaia growled in my head. I would kill her before that happens, but I know Nate loves me and our growing family. "Can we make pancakes?" Rosie squealed as I walked into the kitchen. "We can have whatever you want, Sweetie."
