Chapter 3

~Selena~
Selena “I’m not letting you go to meet him without me! Whatever he has to say, he can say in front of me!”
Furious that he didn’t consult me first, I travel with Brian and David to meet Thomas. What I’m not revealing is that I need to know if it is really Thomas or the Alpha King we are dealing with. Will I be facing my mate? We reach the border and there is nothing. Of course, he would make us wait for him.
Selena “So typical!”
Azi “I don’t remember inviting a Queen.”
He sneers. The Alpha King! His posture and size more confident, arrogant, and a lot bigger than Thomas. So, it was a trap.
Selena “You requested an audience with my people… after you called all the wolves from my kingdom.”
He interrupts me.
Azi “Clearly not all of them.”
Pointing at Brian and David.
Azi “Either you are keeping my Betas prisoner or they are traitors.
His smile showing, he already thinks that they betrayed him. Why would he then have asked them to bring coven members with them?
Selena “I demand to speak to your human. He is the one who requested the meeting. Not you.”
I hope playing the Thomas card will work. If Thomas asked for the meeting, we might just be able to make it out of this alive.
Azi “Why would you want to do that? I am now the Alpha King. You will bow to me. I’ve taken the place of…”
We watch as his entire being starts shaking. His posture and size-changing slightly. He howls an ear-piercing howl.
Thomas “Selena.”
He sounds out of breath.
Thomas “Brian, David, I don’t have much time. He is getting stronger by the minute it seems. Ariel is in the dungeons. She broke the spell to release the Alpha King inside me. He is not me. I need you to save her so she may help you. She is…”
He starts shivering again and it is clear that the King has taken charge again.
Azi “This is your last warning blood Queen. Keep the traitors. I don’t want them. But do not come near my border again. Next time you will not be so lucky!”
He growls, turning his back on us, he runs, disappearing into his territory fast. Once again, he dared to turn his back on his enemy!
Brian “What was that? I thought we were meeting with Thomas?”
Selena “The King must have taken over on the way here. Luckily Thomas prepared you for it, requesting that you bring coven members with you. Why would he want you to save Ariel? What part does she play in all of this?!”
David “I told you it was a bad idea!!”
He hits Brian on his shoulder with a fist, shifting and running back to the castle.
Selena “Brian?”
He looks down at the ground.
Brian “Your Majesty?”
Selena “Spill!”
Brian “Like I said before, she is the witch that enchanted the royal family so many years ago. That’s all I know. Lucille sent us to get her and ask if she could perhaps help us in researching or give us any information on Thomas’ past.”
Selena “Lucille?! What does she have to…”
Spinning on my heal I return to the castle with Brian on my heels. I can’t believe Lucille would go behind my back.
Selena “LUCILLE!!”
I shout once I reach the castle and she comes walking into the square.
Lucille “You found out I take it.”
Her head bowed.
Lucille “I did not mean any disrespect your Majesty, but I will face any punishment you see fit.”
Brian jumps in front of her.
Brian “NO! It wasn’t her fault! All of us were just trying to help Thomas! If you are going to punish someone, punish me, not her!”
Lucille “Brian, please.”
She tries to stop him, but my glare makes him shift and sit next to her without further protest. It doesn’t take long for David and Charlie to join them for some stupid reason.
Selena “Am I to take it all four of you are standing together then?”
They nod together as one… great! My best friends and they don’t even know that I’m the worst of them all. I sigh.
Selena “I’m not going to punish any of you. Stop looking at me as if I am. Just go get that damn witch so we can figure out how to fix Thomas.”
I wave my hand through the air. I don’t know what the circumstances are in the wolf cells, but at least here, she will be properly locked up in chains and an enchanted cell she can’t get out of.
~Azi~
Azi “You turned on yourself?! How could you do that to us?!”
Thomas “I am trying to protect us! You want to kill good people so our people will fear us!”
Azi “We are an Alpha King! Not a bartender! We are meant to be feared!”
I don’t understand why he gives in to his human emotions so easily when these creatures are clearly below our stature. Not only are we of a superior intelligence we are of a superior breed!
Thomas “Yes Azi, but that does not give you the right to see yourself as better than my friends! I asked for the meeting. You had no right taking over!”
Azi “I would say it is a good thing I did.”
I walk up to the pack where they are working on the packhouse. They aren’t making the kind of progress I am hoping for. That blood Queen made them lazy! Feeding them her blood so they wouldn’t have to work that hard!
I howl, calling all of them together.
Azi “I don’t care how hard you work or how many of you die! I want this packhouse finished by tomorrow night when the moon rises! Do I make myself clear!”
As if in a trance they nod and start working faster. Now that is what I call work. I walk back to my house, but unfortunately, I will have to give control back to the human, or I will cause more damage to the Alpha house, which reminds me that I need to get some of the workers to start changes in the house.
I don’t want all the reminders of the humans in there. I also need it to be big enough for me to move in and out of!
Azi “This is not me giving you full control. This is simply for practicality.”
I shift into human form, giving him control.
~Thomas~
Feeling his strength fade as he hands over control, I walk up to the diaries. Could it be possible that there is an answer in there somewhere to tell me how I can keep him sedated?! After a couple of minutes, I hear him snoring.
Really Azi?
Taking the gap, I walk down to the cells.
Thomas “Ariel, quickly. Is there any way you know of that I can use to keep control over him?”
Ariel “No, I only know of the spell. We can try it if you want?”
Thomas “No, not yet. We need to know more first. Brian and David will be coming to…”
Azi “What are we doing down here?”
He asks sounding groggy.
Thomas “I am just making sure the witch is still here.”
I look wide-eyed at Ariel.
Ariel “You bastard! You can’t keep me here!”
Thomas “I can, you have the spells I need to perform the rituals. You will stay here.”
I turn on my heel hoping he will fall for our rouse.
-Azi “Why the sudden change of heart?”
Thomas “I don’t know what you are talking about?”
I feel his strength growing inside me again and I fight to the best of my abilities to keep him down.
Azi “If you want the spell to be done so badly, why are you fighting me?”
Thomas “Because we are still inside and we still have work to do. You are going to break the house!”
Azi “I hate this place you call a house!”
Thomas “You know what Azi,” anger boiling from deep inside me “You are the intruder come to think of it! I am the Alpha born King. You are simply a part of that personality. I gave you too much power, mistakenly thinking that you would be a good part of me. You have shown that you aren’t. I think that I won’t be letting you out anytime soon.”
I feel him growing in strength again, pushing to get out, but also my strength is growing this time around and I can keep him down. I feel my confidence growing and walk to the office. There has to be something to help me to learn how to control him.
I start looking at the cupboards in front of me when I hear chaos breaking out outside. Rushing to find out what is happening I find the pack circling Brian and David.
Blaze “Your Majesty. We caught these traitors trying to sneak into your house!! Shall we kill them for you?”
His smile cruel and filled with hatred.
Thomas “No Blaze! I asked to speak to them. There will be no killing unless I command it!”
He lowers his head in submission and although some of them still growl softly they let the guys go. I wave them inside and walk to the prison cells with them, wanting to get them out of danger as quickly as possible.
Thomas “You took a big chance in coming here so openly. Especially after what happened at our meeting.”
~Brian~
Selena said to look at his posture. That we would know from that if it was Thomas or the Alpha King. She was very unhappy that we would even think of coming here, but David and I had to see for ourselves if our dear friend was completely lost.
David “Ah you know me. I don’t scare that easily.”
He waves it off as if it is nothing.
David “Besides Thomas, you and I share blood remember.”
He laughs and we walk up to Ariel’s cell.
Ariel “What are you two doing here?!”
She jumps up looking confused, angry, and then almost relieved.
Brian “We are here to take you to Selena for your safety. Thomas asked that you be moved before the Alpha King decides that you become dinner.”
I unlock her cell, pulling on the chains, replying sarcastically.
Ariel “Well now that is something to look forward to.”
She rolls her eyes.
Ariel “Are you sure I will be safe there?”
This time she is the sarcastic one.
Thomas “Ariel, don’t be flippant! Selena and I have agreed. She understands your importance and you will not be harmed. Just don’t provoke her. I can’t promise anything if you provoke her.”
Thomas grabs Ariel by her lapel growling softly. The tension is palpable in the small space of the cells. We don’t waste any more time and leave the territory quickly under the instruction that we are given safe passage back to ours.
~Selena~
I am advised that Ariel has arrived and made my way down to the cells. I am going to enjoy every moment of it when she realizes that her cell here is enchanted by a witch she doesn’t know of and she won’t be able to escape.
Hearing the chains being swapped out for a set of cuffs of my choosing, I listen from around the corner.
Ariel “Why? I’m not going to do anything!”
Brian “Because I don’t trust you! These…”
Her eyes widen as soon as the cuffs are locked.
Ariel “Are black magic! How could you?!”
I come walking around the corner when I hear the cell being opened.
Selena “My dear Ariel, how nice it is to see you.”
Ariel “Selena, I would say the same, but… you just had me locked in chains made of black magic!”
I walk up to her, coming to a standstill right in front of her. Taking a step forward, she takes that last step back into the confines of the spelled cell. Even with the door open, she will not be able to leave unless I command it.
Selena “Oh, I’m sorry, they must have… Brian? Oh, no, they did use the right set, and now you are in the right cell, where you belong… in fact if I understand it correctly, it is where you have always belonged. Please do enjoy your stay with us.”
Ariel “You little b…”
Stepping forward with her hands up, ready to try and grab my throat she is thrown backward by the electricity generated by the cell protection spell. Realization setting in when Brian locks the door. I look at her with a satisfied smile on my face, turn on my heel, and hearing her protests, I walk down the passage, happily smiling.
