THE WEDDING

“Why should I wear a black wedding dress? I don’t want that”, Arya whined. She just had her skin care routine done, had pins in various places on her hair and is presently standing in her walk-in closet, soaking in the horror of wearing a dark wedding dress. “I’m sorry ma’m. Don picked out the dress himself and I dare not go against him”, Rosa, her maid said politely. ‘Oh, he picked my wedding dress, how convenient’, Arya thought to herself. “Where is my seamstress”, she asked Rosa after a while. “She’s right outside the door, would you like to make any amend”, Rosa asked. ‘Amend, funny’, Arya laughed in her head. “I want her and her entire team here right now. Get them whatever they need to make a new wedding dress”, Arya said in a tone that left no room for argument. Rosa looked like she had seen a ghost. “It’s just five hours till the wedding. Don would….” “Don won’t do anything about it. A girl only experience this once. I’m getting married against my will but it doesn’t mean I should look like my problems”, Arya hissed. “Yes, la moglie di Don”, Rosa said as she stepped out to talk to the seamstress. “A black wedding dress ! What does this douche bag take me for? He didn’t even consult me about my own wedding dress. I’d rather get married in this robe”, Arya thought to herself. Soon, her seamstress and her team enters the closet looking scared for their lives because they know the Don doesn’t play. But they can’t also go against Arya because she’s the Don’s wife to be and also a mafia princess. Imagine being the ants standing in between two elephants. Almost immediately they got to work on her dress in the style and color she gave them. ************************************** Leonardo put on his suit jacket and Rob passed him his gold watch. He was dressed in black from head to toe. Even his long sleeve was black and had a few buttons undone from the top. The only other color on him was his gold watch. “Rob”, he said. “Just thirty minutes to go, Don”, Rob answered immediately. He was going to be Leonardo’s best man. “And her?”, he asked. “Currently getting ready and gave strict orders to let no one in and out of her closet”, Rob answered. Leonardo laughed dryly. She acts like she’s excited to get married to a devil when he knows deep down that if she saw a chance to escape, she’ll take it. “It’s time, Don”, Rob said. ********************************* Secured gun men alighted from the cars and opened the doors for the guests. A designated luxury car was sent to each of the house of the invitees to take them to and from the wedding. This was a means to ensure tight security and as if that wasn’t enough, they had to show their luxury invites to the scanning machine and go through a metal detector door. They were also given their seat numbers. Not that anyone would dare the Don but it was for the assurance of safety to the guests. The dress code was black and luxurious. The wedding theme color was also black and grey. Leonardo stood at the wedding altar with the catholic priest. Rob stood at a distance behind him. Don signaled at Rob and he got behind him quickly. “I’ve been standing here for the past forty five minutes. Where is Arya?”, Leonardo asked Rob. “I sent some men to check on her and they came back saying they weren’t granted permission to enter Arya’s closet”, Rob replied, wondering why he was going through such trouble for a wedding that isn’t his. He doesn’t even have a girlfriend and here he was carrying Leonardo’s marital problems on his shoulders. He did it willingly though because he is Don’s right hand man. “I think I should go myself”, Leonardo replied and as he took the first step, the wedding orchestra started. Shortly, the doors flew open revealing Arya and her father. The guest stood up and gasped with shock. Arya had never stepped foot outside her father’s mansion and so, people were shocked by her beauty. Even on her engagement ceremony, her face was covered. Leonardo looked at Arya with both disbelief and anger because she went against him in secret so he won’t be able to do anything about it, or so she thought. ********************************** Arya stood behind the huge black mahogany door with Rosa at her side. “Miss, we still have a couple of minutes. Are you sure about this? I know it is not my place to question you”, Rosa said with concern. Arya ran her hands along the silk wedding dress on her body. Before she could respond, Carls showed up. “Why are you putting this on? I hope it wasn’t your idea”, he asked Arya because she wasn’t in the dress code. Arya took a second to think of a way to avoid it. “I am already getting married, Papa. Isn’t this what you wanted?”, she asked him. “I really don’t care”, Carls replied ignoring Rosa. He took Arya’s hand in his arms and signaled the guards to begin. A signal gunshot wound out from the rear window and the orchestra started. Shortly, the doors were opened and they began to walk out slowly. The guests stood up to acknowledge their presence but Arya’s eyes were on only one person, Leonardo. She saw the anger in his eyes and she began to rethink her decision but it was too late. Shortly, they got to the altar where Bianca, who was her bridesmaid since she had no friend or sister, was waiting. Carls stretched his hands out for a handshake with the Don but he was ignored. Shamefully, he walked to seat with his family. Arya stood before the Don and she could see anger and something else in his eyes. “What are you wearing?”, he asked her. “My wedding dress”, she replied. She watched Leonardo gaze go from her face down to her body. “Would he loose his cool?”, she wondered., “This isn’t the dress I picked out for you”, he said surprisingly calmer than she expected. Arya took a second to answer. “I know”.
