CHAPTER TWENTY
When Stella arrived at the FBI New Haven branch, she remembered with a jolt that Carrie would be stationed in the lobby, seething with resentment at being chained to her desk while Stella helped with the investigation.
Worst of all, she hadn’t been any help so far. Trevor had a rock solid alibi and so did everyone else with a motive to commit the crime. Even Abigail’s alibi had checked out perfectly when she’d called the friend, the school, the housekeeper and the gym. And now, she’d have to run the gamut of Carrie’s critical scrutiny.
But, when she headed down the corridor and walked into the lobby to see Carrie working on the files, she was surprised that the tall agent didn’t look angry to see her.
She looked up as Stella entered, and stared at her in a thoughtful way
