I steady myself as Robert charges at me. I have seen many battles and fought many, and I know that the most dangerous adversary is one who fights for his dignity, who has so much to lose.
I know only too well that his pack is keenly looking to see how this one goes. If he becomes an Alpha whose mate has been taken away, they will never respect him. But if he fights away those who are out to demean him by taking his mate, his respect will rise in leaps and bounds. The question is whether I will allow him to triumph over me.
