Liam opened his eyes and wondered where he was for a few seconds before he remembered that he was in the hospital. His mother was right, he needed the rest and he felt slight pains in his arms, thighs and head.
“Good morning.” A female voice and he saw Sandra sitting on a chair close to him. She looked worried at the same time glad he was awake.
“Sandra?” He muttered.
“Harry called me. I went to your house and God! I Saw the car. I never thought I will find you this good.”
Liam forced a smile.
“It’s just the car that was badly smashed but I am fine.”
“Did the doctors say so?”
“Yeah. Mom insisted I took a rest and I am glad I did. Who told Harry?”
“I don’t know. He called me this morning. What happened?”
“I don’t really know. I was driving and something zipped pass my front and I lost control and the car somersaulted. Thank God I had my seatbelt on.”
“Oh my God!” She touched his cheek and gave him a look of empathy and care. “I am sorry, Liam.”
“Its okay, Sandra. Thank you for coming.”
“Liam…I am sorry about the things I said to you. I know it was all my fault but seeing you with another girl made me felt you chose her over me because you refused to accept my apologies.”
“I accepted your apologies.”
“Yes but you did not take me back for her sake.”
“Sandra..”
“I know I cheated on you but the only thing we did was kissed thrice but you lived with the girl for weeks in your house and you can’t say you guys did not have s*x. Is that not enough to get even and we move past it?”
“Sandra it’s not what you think. Who told you she was in my house for weeks?”
“I never mentioned your house but only said you lived with her so that substantiates it. Okay, Larry told me everything; how you met her in the hummocks, how she belonged to a gang of thieves, how you took her to your house and when I came over to your house, you did not let me go to your gallery. I know you guys were chilling all around and stuff.”
“Who said she was a thief?”
“she was found wounded after they got chased by the police or something. You are involving yourself in danger, Liam. You need to come off it and let’s go back to our lives. I still love you.”
“Hello Liam.” A male voice said and Sandra turned to see Brian, her so-called ex standing.
“Who let you in?” Sandra asked. “What are you doing here?”
“I came to see your ex, darling.” He said. “I could not just wait for you outside.”
“Don’t act like we came here together.”
“Are you denying me?”
“Brian, if you think this will get us back again, then you just ruined it all. You are the last person I will date again.”
Brian smiled.
“She is just kidding. She is so nice she does not want to exacerbate your health by acting the way she does when you are not around.” He said to Liam.
“I don’t want to be involved please. Did you say you came to see me?”
“Sure and make sure my baby is fine.”
“Thank you.” Liam sat up. “Where the hell are the nurses? I need to leave.”
“Your mum is around” Sandra said, her face red with anger. “Brian he is only trying to ruin us because I dumped him again.”
Liam was about to talk when he saw Ian come in with Rick. The two men were huge and intimidating. There was something about Ian that scared him.
“Good morning Liam.” Rick said with a smile. “I am glad you look okay, apparently.”
“Good morning, Liam.”
A nurse came in at once.
“You can’t all come in here like that.” She said.
“I am Detective Rick of DPY and this is Detective Ian. We have Detective Gray of CPD outside.”
“I am sorry Detectives but he is a patient and you can’t just come in here like that.”
“Perhaps his friends could excuse us.” Rick said. “It is a security matter that needs urgent attention. We spoke with the doctor and he is certified okay to talk to us.”
The nurse eyed them.
“Over crowding is not allowed. Maybe the friends will leave.” She said.”It’s okay.” Sandra said. “I will be outside Liam but why are the police here?”
“He was reported missing and we need to know what happened.” Rick said.
“We may be outside, Liam or decide to leave.” Brain said sarcastically.
“I wish you a sense of shame and self pride, Brian.” Liam said.
“Thank you.” Brian said. “Let’s go Sandy.”
“You suck, Brian.” She said and walked out.
After they left, Rick sat on the chair Sandra was sitting on and smiled.
“Once again, we sympathize with you for the tragic event.”
“Thank you. Why are you here? Are you the Chicago Police? You mentioned Detroit Police.”
“Yes, I am from Detroit Police Department and maybe you missed it when I said Detective Gray of Chicago police is outside. If you wish, we could call him in.”
“What do you want?”
“We want to know what happened to you.”
“I had an accident and I am fine.”
“How did you get involved in an accident?”
“I was driving home when something zipped pass in front of me and I lost control or I imagined it zipping pass me.”
“Something like what?”
“I don’t know. It was so fast I did not see it. I am not even sure if its real.”
“So what happened after the thing zipped pass you?”
“I lost control.”
“I got that part. I mean what happened to you and the car?”
“I lost control of the steering wheel and the car turned out of the road and somersaulted twice and I passed out for a few minutes. I opened my eyes and saw that it was smashed, my windshield broken and I had a minor injury so I drove home.”
“Hmm… where did this happen?”
Liam did not like this.
“Why is this so important? I was not attacked or something. It was an accident and I am fine.”
“We have a job and we know how to do it. We are investigating something of national importance and it seems the CIA may soon be involved so we need an extensive report.”
“What has that got to do with me?”
“We will get to that part.”
“What if I don’t want to talk about it?”
Rick smiled and moved his heard forward.
“We saw your car Liam.” Rick said. “And what we saw was not just a car that somersaulted but a car with bullet holes on the windshield. A car with scratches of claws our forensic experts identified as wolf claws.”
Liam did not like this? Should he tell them the truth? Maybe that could save him. Why did he not feel safe giving it to them? Why did he feel that was betrayal to Gina? Was he even sure he would see her again? Why was she after the hard disc? And what if Ian was lying?
He wanted to know what was inside the hard disc that was so important.
“I passed out and did not know what happened.” Liam said and knew they would not believe him.
“Where did this happen?” Rick repeated.
“Around Drill Hummock.”
“And that was after you encountered Detective Ian.” Rick said. “You decided to go to the hummock after you discovered that Gina was a werewolf and you found her there. Did you go there to look for the hard disc?”
“No.”
“We found two dead bodies there believed to be the bodies of those who chased Gina. They were killed by bullets and these bullets were traced to your father’s gun. Your father denied the knowledge of using his gun.”
Liam realized that he was dealing with professionals and they knew he was lying.
Liam closed his eyes.
He had to tell them the truth. It was at that point they heard a girl scream at the top of her voice.

When Sandra went out of the ward, followed by Brain, she walked quickly outside to the reception and sat on a pew. Brain came and sat close to her.
“Sandra, we need to talk.’ He said. “You are making a big goof.”
“Brain, the only goof I mad was let you come into my life again and ruin my relationship with Liam.”
“Sandra, It was me before him. I am you’re your first love and you know what that means.”
“Yes, it means first hurt.”
“Come on, I was stupid then,… That was a long time ago.”
”Yes, it’s about 365 days ago. You were a kid, right?”
“A lot could have happened between such periods. People change with seconds.”
“Brain, you don’t seem to understand. After the Halloween night, I realized that it’s Liam I love and not you. You were just an adventure and yes, you got me attracted to you again with your persistence and the craziness in my head. I really regretted ever letting you kiss me again. I have only made love with Liam since we broke up and have not kissed anyone else.”
“Stop telling that, please! I don’t want to know about that.”
“That is the truth and you deserve an explanation. There is no us and you don’t have to feel jealous over me because you are not my boyfriend and what you did this morning is so childish and idiosyncratic.”
“What did I do?”
“Following me here to give the impression that we came together.”
“Sandra I still love you and that makes me desperate.”
“That is why Liam is different. He prepared a birthday surprise package for me, only to see me kissing you because I thought he was away and you did the stuff but how did he react? He just left and never yelled at me. He never put up a fight with you. That is so different from your pugnacious and crazy ways Mr. Desperado.”
“It is better to yell and stay than keep mute and leave. He does not love you, can’t you see that? He left and found himself another girl.”
That hurt Sandra.
“After what I did to him, I deserve that and he did not look for another girl, he met her accidentally and that would be sorted out.”
“What is the difference between 3 by 2 and 2 by 3? ”
“This is a case of the difference between 2 out 3 and 3 out of 2. +1 and -1 got a big difference, dude so please cut it out and that is our private affair.”
Brian took in a deep breath.
“Okay, for long time sake, can’t we just spent quality time I my creep?”
“If you want s*x, no.” she said and got up. She began to walk away. He got up and followed her.
“Sandra.” He called her but she did not respond. She was sick of this guy and wanted him off her tracks. She went out of the hospital and headed towards the side of the building. Brain accelerated and caught up with her.
“Listen to me Sandra.”
“Leave me alone!”
He caught her hand and pushed her to the wall.
“Listen to me b***h!” He snarled.
“Are you going to hurt me or rape me?”
“Shut up!”
It was at that point it happened and it took just a second or two.
A strong hand grabbed Brain by the neck and lifted him up with an ease, turned him and used the second hand to twist his neck.
The only thing Sandra heard was a creaking sound and Brian was lying dead on the ground.
The killer was a tall, heavily built man wearing black suit and sunshades. His face was hard and he mean.
“Shhhhh” He uttered. “I am Karl and I hate molestation.”
Sandra was so terrified she let out a shrill cry that echoed.
Boris who was sitting in the car with Daniel and two other werewolves twitched his lips.
“Karl killed him.” He lamented.
Daniel looked at Boris.
“He did the right thing.” He said. “We must get this disc and having the girl will facilitate that. Ian and his friends can’t have it.”
“What next?” Boris asked. “I only asked him to pick the girl.”
“He was a nuisance and had to be cleared. Besides, we need to send a message.”
Karl had grabbed Sandra and was bringing her to the car.
“Let’s move!” Daniel said and they all came out of the car and moved towards the entrance of the hospital.
Boris removed his phone.
“CGY are you guys set?” He said.
“Right in position.”
“Good.” Boris said and collected the loud speaker from one of his men as they got to the entrance. Brian’s body was left lying on the ground where he was killed and Sandra kept shouting.
