5. Do you really want to snatch that happiness away from her?

3827 Words
“Should we go and talk to her?” Nicholas asked from Lucas, as they stood in the entirely black decorated bedroom of the latter brother, who had posters of naked models, pasted up around his walls. “Honestly, I don’t want to.” Lucas admitted, making Nicholas look at him with confusion. “I mean, after last night, I am kind of scared of her. When she starts speaking, she actually has a lot of good arguments to shut us up. Unless we are not in the mood to say sorry, we shouldn’t go to her.” “Say sorry what? What have we done that is wrong and…?” “Hey! Haven’t you even seen Dad? He apologizes to Mom, even when she is wrong. That is how it works with women. You have to say sorry, even if they are wrong and even if you haven’t done anything wrong.” “That is not fair.” “Well, I guess you finally become an adult today and realize that nothing in this life real.” As the two brothers stood discussing the situation amongst one another, Rachel and Alejandro paced to and fro inside their own master’s bedroom. “I can’t believe this! She went our backs and applied for college. She didn’t even bother for once, discussing it with us, what she wanted to do and how she wanted it to be. She just blatantly pulled this huge stunt and now she is actually mad at us.” Rachel puffed like a bull, whilst her husband sat by his wing chair, watching his wife spin around the room, like a mini rockets, with fumes fanning out of her, that gave her the velocity to spin around the room. “Will you just relax?” “How can I just relax? And how can you be so calm at this moment?” Rachel yelled at her husband, who was actually quite relevantly calm, given to the situation that had been created around the house ever since the night before. “So, what else can I do?” Alejandro smirked at his wife, making her roll her eyes at him. “You know, all of this is your fault actually.” “My fault?” Alejandro inquired, as Rachel tried to put the entire blame on to him. “If you wouldn’t have put so much restrictions on my daughter, then she wouldn’t have done what she did. Do you know how much a child suffers from mental degradation if their parents are not understanding and they don’t look after the kid and…” “So, you are blaming your bad parenting on me?” Alejandro c****d up an eyebrow at his wife, catching her up in the middle of her attempts of trying to cast herself out of the situation. “I am a bad parent? No! there is no way that I am the bad one here. You were the one to put her under all those restrictions…” “Our daughter agreed to do whatever we asked her to do. We both are wrong here, for never asking her what she wanted.” Alejandro pointed out, wanting Rachel to take the equal blame. “Fine! So, now what are we going to do?” “You clearly are not courageous enough to step out and talk to Camila. So, I will do it.” Rachel’s eyes widened as she laughed out loud. “Oh, sure… go ahead and be my guest and be ‘courageous’.” She taunted her husband, walking out of the room. As soon as she opened the door of her bedroom, she felt startled, finding Lucas and Nicholas standing right in front of her door. “What are you two doing?” “We also came to ask you that.” Nicholas stated. “What are you guys going to do now?” Lucas requested and Rachel turned around, seeing her husband walking in to her direction. “Not me! But him.” She told her sons. As everyone stood contemplating who would do what, the girl that was the center of all their thoughts, laid rested on her bed, wrapped around her blankets, submerged deep in her bedsheets. She was never the one to sleep past ten, even on weekends but it was already twelve in the noon and she slept like a child on paracetamol. A bad combination but the one that knocks a child out for a deep and long sleep. Camila gently opened up her eyes and extended her hands out of her duvet, smashing her hand around over her white ceramic night stand until her hand came in contact with the small digital clock placed on her nightstand. Grabbing the clock, she looked at the time and immediately shot up straight, sitting erect on the bed. She couldn’t believe her own eyes, how late she had slept in. Placing the clock on her lap, she rubbed her eyes once more to see if she was viewing the time correctly or not. “Wow!” She felt surprised yet amused at the same time. She had never done something so mutinous in her entire life. But she guessed that it was about time when she started doing things that didn’t exactly fall in to her personality. She scoffed to her own self and stretched her arms out, relaxing her body back a little. A small smile appeared on her lips, she didn’t know what exactly that smile was for. If it was for the long, relaxing and tranquil sleep that she had, that had recharged her or if it was because she wasn’t finally keeping her feelings to her own self and had actually let out her true feelings to her entire family. The sudden remembrance of what had happened last night, immediately erased that smile away from Camila’s face. She didn’t feel good about being rude towards her family. She was always good to her family and loved them with all her heart. She was never annoyed with her father, stopping her from going anywhere or with anyone. In fact, she barely ever got any friends and whenever she went out for shopping, he would always send his guards with her, she felt protected and it didn’t feel good. She just guessed that she personally didn’t have much opinions regarding to her father stopping her from doing anything but when it came to something that she wanted to so badly, she did turn in to a venting ass, becoming adamant at achieving and getting what she truly desired. But at the same time, she wondered that if allowing to go to Stanford, shouldn’t be a reward to being such a good daughter all those years. She had worked hard and earned her approval. Therefore, she shouldn’t be asked to be put back by anyone and she should have to feelings of guilt about yelling or figting with anyone. She made up her mind about how she will approach the entire situation and settled in to her bed, sticking firmly to her decision, until the door to her room knocked and she immediately threw the duvet over her face and laid back on her side, turning away from the door. The door knocked up again and she bit her tongue harsh. Her determination that she had a few moments ago, suddenly evaporated in to thin air, as she closed her eyes shut, when she heard the door of her room opened up. The heavy footsteps approaching her, told her off right away that it was her father and somehow she didn’t so enticed anymore. She still decided to play a façade and pretended to be depressed in bed, rather than showing the fact that she slept like a child and actually had just woken up. The heavy slump she felt on the bed, opposite to her side, also told her off right away that it was surely her father. She didn’t even more the slightest inch, not knowing what exactly to do. A part of her wanted to turn around and talk things up with her father but another part of her, wanted the earth to open up in to two and devour her in to its core and melt her away due the embarrassment she felt because of her own tantrums that she had thrown at everyone the night before after the party. She was never the one to be the center of the attention in such a negative way. Everyone always appreciated her and in fact, praised her for being perfect. Well, if it effects one less thing her cousins shouldn’t hate her anymore as she was a clear disappointment to many parents and had become an example of why one shouldn’t be exactly like Camila. The old chants and praises of how everyone should be just like Camila were then going become long lost for sure. Alejandro exhaled out loud, making Camila squirm in between the blanket and the sheets. She was shaking with the anticipation of what her father was going to say or even do worse – yell at her. Something that he had never done in the past many moons, or at least that was what Camila had remembered the best. He finally broke the thin and awkward slice of silence between him and his daughter, as he mustered up all of his courage to have a sensible talk with his daughter, something that he should’ve done a long time ago to avoid what had happened the night before. Somehow, he was just as quickly responsible for last night as Camila. He shouldn’t have announced his sons’ future take over at a party that was meant to be for his daughter, who obviously, wouldn’t go to any other graduations parties for sure. “I know you are awake.” Alejandro spoke up and Camila’s bit her tongue, enclosing her eyes shut tight for once. She got up and sat up straight, making Alejandro turn around towards her. He softly smiled looking at her. “I know you are never the one to sleep past ten even on a weekend. Come here.” He patted to the empty place on the edge of the bed next to him and she crawled her way towards him and sat with her legs hanging low from the bed. Alejandro put his shoulder around her and pulled her in for a hug. “I am sorry, if I ever made you feel invalidated and didn’t ask you about your wishes and opinions. You have been such a great daughter and you never even for once complained about a single thing that I put you through.” “I guess, I never had a problem with anything.” She shrugged softly, moving a strand of her hair behind her ears. “I just wanted to protect you.” He looked down at her and she also looked up for once, “I know Dad! I know how much you love and care about me and I even know that you just wanted to do what you thought was the best for me and I swear I always understood it. That’s why I never complained about even the slightest things that irritated me.” “You are incredibly mature for your age.” He smiled, patting his hand over her head and she looked up at him, smiling out from ear to ear. “See, you do believe that I am mature, right?” Something about her father’s soothing words, gave her a sense of confidence as she shot up straight from her bed and began pacing back and forth around her room, in front of her father, suddenly preparing herself for the presentation that she had been mentally concocting herself to present in front of her father, ever since she was a freshman in high school and had made up her mind to go to Stanford. “You see Dad! A part of me never complained about anything because I saved all of my desires for Stanford and Stanford only. So, I didn’t care about crappy high school parties. I am sorry, please don’t mind by potty mouth but I mean, if you come to think of it, then compromising is actually very mature of me to do. I am smart and who gets in to Stanford upon their qualifications. Do you even know? That when I applied they said that I almost qualified for scholarship but I mean of course they would have to see my family status which clearly throws me off but come on Dad! Stanford is my dream. I have been dreaming about living the free and happy college life ever since I was a kid and Mom used to tell me about her days at Stanford. I have lived my entire life under my brother’s shadows and even my high school years passed by in the same way but for once, I want to live my college life on my own, experience the real deal out there. I know after I come back from college, it would be just a plain, dull and boring life, until I will die but these four years, I want to have fun to the most and live my college life full of ecstasy, not literally, I mean…” She bent on her knees in front of her father and held his hands in hers, looking at him with puppy eyes, tears almost brimmed to the very lids of her eyes, threatening to spill out any given moment. “Just these four years, is all I am asking from you. I know the consequences of my life as a girl, being born in a family with mafia background, trying to cope up with the world and pretending to be normal but please, this is all I am asking you. I spent my entire life doing exactly what you wanted me to do. These four years of my own life, is all I am asking from you.. so, please Dad…” “Okay!” Before Camila could plead her case any further to her father, Alejandro spoke up in the middle of Camila’s sentence, with Camila not even realizing that Alejandro had already permitted her to pursue her dreams but she was too high with adrenaline to stop from explaining her life choices and arguing with Alejandro over why he should allow Camila to go to Stanford. “Exactly, it is Okay but all I am asking for you to… Wait!” She halted in her words, as he eyes opened up with sheer thrill, realizing what Alejandro had just stated. “Did you just say okay? Does this mean that…?” Alejandro nodded his head to Camila, as he smiled looking at how happiness appeared at her daughter’s face, with a predominant glow appearing on her expressions, as she jumped up on her feet. “Really?” Alejandro nodded once again and Camila was about to jump high but she held herself back. “Wait! It means that you are allowing me to go to Stanford, right?” Alejandro got up on his feet as well and finally nodded at Camila. “Yes, you can go to Stanford for college!” “YES!” Camila jumped up high and hugged her father. “Oh my God! I love you so much Dad. Thank you so, so, so, so much! You have no idea how happy you have made me.” “Nothing is more important to me in this world than my daughter’s happiness. If it makes you happy and if you are really passionate about going to Stanford, then go ahead. You should make your own decisions and these four years, should teach you how to be independent. Your mother and I have taught you a lot except for being independent. We somehow, were not ready to let you go and be a person of your own but the way you went out of your way to apply for Stanford and how you got in, shows that you will be okay, on your own.” “Oh my God, Dad! You are the best.” Camila’s tears that were stuck at the corner of her eyes spilled out and she didn’t even realize that she was crying out of joy. Even imagining her parents agreeing to letting her go to Stanford, seemed impossible to Camila but that very dream of her, that seemed ridiculous had actually become a reality. The door to her room opened up and her mother walked in along with her brothers. “Ah! Look at how happy she is, after putting us all through hell.” Nicholas complained, happy to see his sister jumping around like a monkey but also annoyed that her little tantrums got her what she wanted to achieve. “You guys!” Feeling on top of the world, Camila threw her arms open at her brothers and pulled the two together for a hug. “I am so happy! I am also going to ignore your irrelevant and unnecessary comments as well. You guys are allowed to say whatever you want to.” Pushing them away, she then hugged her mother. “Thank you Mom! Thank you so, so, so, so much.” “What? What are you thanking her for?” Alejandro felt offended that it was her who allowed Camila to go to Stanford and talked it out with his daughter. He felt annoyed that Rachel was then going to take half of the credit for his hard work, as he was the one to go ahead and talk things out with his daughter. In his point of view, Rachel did the cowardly thing by not talking to Camila in a time when she was actually scary as a determined and rebellious daughter. “I am pretty sure that Mom, made you realize that you would be wrong if you didn’t allow me to go to Stanford, which was probably your first mindset, wasn’t it?” Camila smirked at her father, keeping a hand over her mother’s shoulder and Rachel also tied her hands together against her chest and c****d back at her husband. Alejandro’s mouth hung open at how cunningly Rachel had tricked him in to agreeing to let Camila do what her heart desired the most. “But you still didn’t change your mind, until you didn’t hear my arguments, did you?” Alejandro held a firm expression, squinting his eyes at his daughter and then at his wife, realizing that both the two girls were incredibly smart at how they entrapped Alejandro in to making him listen to Camila for once and make him agree to her demands. “You pretended to be mad at her, so I would stop you from talking to her, didn’t you just do it?” “What, did my trick just get revealed? Boohoo!” Rachel stuck her tongue out at her husband, making him chuckle out a little. Even after twenty years of their marriage, he found her little impish actions adorable. “But you don’t just get to go to Stanford, without one condition.” Alejandro rose his objections, making Camila’s mood go down slightly a little but she didn’t care what condition Alejandro had to keep, nothing could stop her from achieving her dreams. So, she wasn’t going to stumble back at Alejandro’s conditions. “You will stay at the apartment that I will get you and…” “About that…” Camila giggle, running past her father and brothers, towards her study table and grabbed her acceptance letter from Kappa Nu Lambda and presented it in front of her father. Who felt skeptical for a minute, as he grabbed that letter and his sons surrounded him to see what was inside that envelope. Realizing what it really was, Alejandro’s eyes widened, at what next thing his daughter was up to. “No! no!” She shook his head in a negative manner but Camila knew that her father’s ‘NO’, would turn in to a big ‘YES’, until she would have to go Stanford. She didn’t care what her father had to say anymore but simply jumped on her toes and pecked her father’s cheeks at once. “I love you so much Dad!” “No! I haven’t agreed to it! And I am not going to let you stay at some sort of sorority.” Alejandro tried to stop his daughter from getting ahead of herself but Camila was not willing to back down at any given situation. “I love you so much Dad!” She chanted the same thing again and again, making her way out of the bedroom. “How can you…” Alejandro stood baffled, looking at Rachel, who patted his shoulder at once and then walked towards the large windows of the room, removing the drapes away and letting the shiny rays pour in to the room. She smiled to herself as she watched her daughter swirling around the entire garden. “We both know you’ll eventually agree to it, wouldn’t you?” Lucas told his father. Alejandro slumped back on the bed and held the letter from Kappa Nu Lambda in his hands, not believing the fact, that after fifty years of his life, remaining undefeated, he was finally helpless in front of a stupid college sorority acceptance letter. “Well, I guess this where you finally lose a battle in your life.” Lucas smirked looking at his father’s helpless condition. “But…” Alejandro looked up to argue with Rachel but Nicholas held his other shoulder and shook his head at Alejandro. “If you say that she can’t go to sorority of her own choice, you know that will knock her down, right? Look at how happy she is.” Rachel made everyone turned around towards her and then walk up to join her by the window, where Camila was dancing around the entire garden of the mansion, jumping up around Alejandro’s dogs, ‘Tiger’ and ‘Kal’, whom she usually didn’t have liking towards but in that moment, she felt on top of the world, Mount Everest couldn’t felt like the smallest thing in the world for her to conquer, as she felt floating on cloud nine. “Do you really want to snatch that happiness away from her?” Alejandro stood by the windows and grunted by stumping his feet on the ground. “But this is not fair!” “She listened to you, all those years, now it is your turn to do the same.” Rachel finally concluded, deciding it for Camila, that she would get whatever she wanted to. --------------------------------------------- How adorable is it that Alejandrob melted for his daughter right away?
