Bally said, “when Zina comes, do you guys plan to go out?” “I don’t know. I did not plan to come here either.” “You are lucky to have such a girl. You broke a spell, dude.” “Thanks. You are lucky too. Layla is a  queen. She tells me how much she loves you.” He lied. “I know right. I have always been lucky with girls who love me so much.” He boasted. “I plan to marry her. I know I am the only man in her heart right now. Lots of guys tried to slip in only to find me occupying the place. She is my NYSC major certificate.” They both laughed. Layla came out of her room. “Bally can I speak with you for a moment?” “Sure.” Devon felt relieved. He was tired of Bally’s prosaic tales. He had been forcing himself to laugh until his cheeks ached. They went to the dining table, away from Devon and sat. “how do you plan to spend your day?” She asked him. “Hand with you, of course.” “I am sorry we can’t be together today.” She said in a low tone. “Why?” “Please lower your voice.” “Okay.” “He and Zina will be going out today. I need to be alone today. I am in a crappy mood.” “Crappy mood? What is wrong, baby?” “I don’t know. Just crestfallen.” “That is why you need me. I promise to sweep the crap of that mood.” “I appreciate that but I just want to be left alone. That will heal me better.” “Listen darling….” “Now you are beginning to get pesky and nagging. “ she said. “Excuse me?” “I said I need to be alone. Can’t you respect that ? I am so eager feo Zina to come and pick her man away. I just need to be by myself.” “Layla, I am not happy with manner you talk to me. I will leave and may not come back.” I will be glad, she thought. “Do not misconceive me.” She said. “I will make it up to you. Let me see you off.” She was up already. She desperately wanted him to leave. “Okay dear. I will expect your call.” He said. “I am going back home to sleep.” “That is good for the health.” “Devon, I think I am leaving.” Bally said after they left the dining room. “So soon?” “Yeah, I just got an emergency call.” He lied. “I need to get in touch with something,” “Okay.” “My regards to Zina.” “Sure.” Five minutes later, they were left alone. She locked the door. Now that they were left alone, with the door locked, she began to feel something inside her. She knew what she was doing was wrong but she was desperately in need of having him. She wished he would just open up his arms and have her. “That looks like a dismissal.” Devon observed.” “He was becoming nagging.” “But this guy is okay. I mean, I don’t know why you don’t want to give him a chance. He is carzy about you.” “I know but…but love does not work like that.” She sat down. “I fell in love with someone and                                        only him makes my heart feel the way I want.” “I understand. That is simple. Let this guy off, so he does not keep building a castle in air and just hook up with the other guy only.” “It is not as cushy as you think.” “Hmmm…it does not look like that though.” “It is more complicated. The very first time I set my eyes on him, I fell in love with him. I mean real love. I craved for him, day dreamed about him but the circumstances then would not let me have him. There was something going on that would not warrant that. I cried and cried. My best friend knew about it. She was the main obstacle back then. She hated him. She said she was in an act with him but she used the charade and stole him away from me. She betrayed me. I cried. I tried to forget him, I try to forget him but he sticks to my heart.” “Oh my God. I am sorry about this but you sound as if he does not know you are in love with him up till this moment.” She nodded. “Your friend acted badly because she knew what you felt for him and did not tell you she liked him. Instead, she said she hated him. Do you think they are truly in love now?” “I don’t know. I don’t trust her and don’t care.” “did you confront her?” “I did. She was guilty but instead of letting him go, she still stuck to him and let me go instead.” “Can’t you let him go?” “I wish I could…” she began to cry. “I just want him to love me, even if it for a day. I am ready to make him happy in any way he wants.” “Please stop crying.” Devon said. Damn! This was one aspect of love he hated. It messed people up. It could turn a sane person into a sociopath; turn an assiduous person into a hogwash. He just joined the league but life was all about risk. “Okay, let him know what you feel for him . If he says he wants to keep being with her, then you have to let him go but if he falls for you, then you will ruin your relationship with your friend.” “I have told him.” “What was his response?” “He hasn’t said anything.” “Why?” “Maybe he has not gotten the point.” “But you….”He paused and frowned. “I hope it is not what I think. Are you talking about me?” She nodded.
