Ashton: My heels clicked across the concrete sidewalk, leading me to Arden's front door. Leaves crunched beneath them with every step, and the air was crisp with fall. It was a perfect combination that should have calmed my raging heart but done nothing of the sort. I stood on the steps, watching him unlock the door and then step inside, where the darkness of his home swallowed him. When the lights came on, I jumped.
