Prologue
“I always wondered why it was so easy
For people to leave
What I should have questioned was
Why I wanted so badly for them to stay”
When I was young, I thought I had the world, and I thought I always would. Little did I know, nothing ever lasts. No matter how much you want it to.
My name is Lily. I’m about to turn eighteen and I have lost everything and everyone I have ever loved and still can’t figure out what I did wrong to lose them. But let me start at the beginning. I was born in Boise, Idaho in November of 2002. My parents met when they were still young and just starting out in life.
They met on my Mom’s eighteenth birthday, my Dad was only about twenty at the time and hadn’t been on his own for long. However, something you will have to understand about my parents is that they aren’t human. My Dad is a Werewolf and as a Werewolf he is destined to find his lifelong partner and the one person who was made for him, his mate. My Mom was supposed to be that person; however, she is a Witch.
As a Witch, my Mom is still considered supernatural and that means that she also has a destined mate and can tell when she has found him. But unlike my Father, she doesn’t have the same drive to be with anyone, even if it is her destined mate. In other words, she wants to be free from everything and everyone in life and run wild.
Although my Mother feels this way, once my Father saw her he knew she was the one. He thought she was one of the prettiest girls he had ever seen in his life, and was willing to do anything for her. However, she barely even noticed his existence. Despite that, he was determined to spend the rest of his life with her. Once he finally got her attention, they started dating and after a short amount of time, things took a turn and she got pregnant.
With me.
She never wanted to be tied down by anything or anyone, but my Dad was ecstatic to finally be starting a family. He had lost his family in a rogue attack when he was still young and the Alpha at the time took him in and raised him to be a warrior.
He tried so hard to make her happy and get her to stay, but he never seemed to be good enough for her. Regardless, they got married and had two more children after me. Two boys. The elder named Daniel and the younger named Andrew, two years in between each of us.
Our father wanted so badly to stay in the pack. For us to be raised in the same environment that he was. Sadly, Mom didn’t like that and what she wants she gets. So we left the pack, always on the move. We usually were living with other people related to her, Witches, Warlocks, Werewolves and whoever they were mated to. This lifestyle changed our Dad. He missed the pack and the life we had, but he also wanted his mate happy. So after a while he stopped being the Father he had aspired to be, let go of his heritage, and turned into the mate our Mother wanted. In the end, I lost my pack and my Father around the same time.
After Dad gave in he was always working, angry, trying to make Mom happy, which wasn’t possible, or all of the above. I, contrary to my parents, tried to take care of my brothers. Taking care of two boys when you're still young yourself is not easy, especially considering we took after our Dad's Werewolf gene. It’s easy to tell when children inherit their parents' Werewolf genes. They are like ADHD kids on steroids. Our Mothers Witch gene won’t make itself known until we’re shifting age, which is when we turn 18. We can’t turn into wolves until then.
However, the chances of us inherit her gene as well are pretty slim. When a person has the genes of two creatures they are usually considered Hybrids. It sounds like it would be cool, but they are considered bad and are usually rejected by society if they are found out. Sadly, it is next to impossible to tell if someone is a Hybrid. On top of that, no one is really sure how Hybrids are formed.
Getting back on topic, it hadn’t always been like this. We were a fairly normal family at one point. We lived in the Silver Moon pack and were pretty happy up until Andrew was born, not to say that anything should be blamed on him for the unhappiness of our family.
Anyways, we left the pack about a year, maybe two after he was born. I had loved living in a pack and everything about pack life just like my Father. However, Mom was getting sick of the lifestyle. Literally.
So we moved on, sad that I was getting torn away from our pack. We were ranked pretty high in the pack because to our Father, and people respected us for it. My Dad was one of the best and strongest warriors in the pack because of his hard work and also thanks to being raised by the Alpha. In addition, because he was raised with the Alpha's son, who later took over, he managed to become the Beta-male of the Silver Moon pack. They were like brothers, and he was like an Uncle to me. I often got to go with my Dad when he visited to discuss business with the Alpha at the packhouse. That was when I got to spend time with him.
