Chapter 11: Explanations

1147 Words
"You sure you don't want to come to my last class?" Ty asked. I wanted to but I was exhausted. "If you want to go out to dinner I need a nap", I told him, yawning. His face is concerned. I wanted to give him a reassuring smile, but I was tired and my wrist was throbbing in my brace. I forgot the medication and I was too nervous to get something over the counter. I didn't remember fully what I could take. "Are you good to drive yourself? I can take you home?" I shook my head at that offer. He would miss his class and that was unnecessary. "You can walk me to my car as it is close to the building for your last class. I don't need you skipping for me. I'm just sleepy", I told him reassuringly. He doesn't believe me, but he does take my bag and starts directing us to my car. The silence was comfortable as we walked slowly. I let him place my bag in the car and open my door. He obviously didn't want to let me go on my own, but he wouldn't stop me. "Text when you are home safe and set an alarm. I'll come to pick you up at 8 pm so you can get some rest", he told me. "Okay, I will do that. I'll see you tonight." I watched him get smaller in my rearview mirror, happy that he cared. I made it home in record time. Seconds after sending a text to Ty, I was back in my pajamas and heading to sleep. My chiming alarm woke me hours later. I got up a lot easier this time. I still felt that I could sleep for hours but I was a lot more rested. Rubbing my face, I went into the bathroom to get ready. He wanted me in a dress. Sadistic is what he was. We could easily get takeout and eat on one of our couches, but for whatever insane reason he wanted to go outside. I got dressed and made it out to my front room as he knocked on the door. I opened the door for him as he frowned at the shoes in my hand. I lifted one eyebrow as he made his way in. "You don't have any flats", he asked still staring murderously at my shoes. "Not that match this dress. Pregnant women wear heels, sir", I told him, using his shoulder to steady myself as I put them on. "I am pretty sure that it is discouraged, at least" I shook my head at him and chuckled as he searched on his phone. "I need the shoes I'm already going out with this stupid brace; everything else needs to be spot on. Now let's go, or I'm ordering a pizza, and we are eating here", I threatened him by reaching to take my shoes back off. He growled before letting it go and gesturing towards the door. "After you, madam" he stated sarcastically. I smirked but headed towards his car. "Where are you dragging me?" I asked after a while of driving in silence. "I was in the mood for some steak so we are going to the steakhouse in that new casino they built", his lips tugged in a smirk after saying that. "Cruel, you are cruel," is all I answered as the smirk turned into a full-blown chuckle. "It will be fine. Now put on a smile for me I don't want people to think my date hates me". I rolled my eyes at him but complied as he got out and opened the door for me. The valet took the car, and I marveled at how easily he got us a table without reservation. I wondered slightly who his father was. He mentioned to me before that he was rich, and that is why he had gotten us an investor. I didn't ask, knowing it was a sensitive topic for him and I wasn't his friend for money. I definitely could use some. I was good with my savings between keeping a job and pocketing the little money I got for my expenses from my family. I could survive for a while. Not a long while. Especially with a baby, but I wouldn't be homeless tomorrow either. I kept the polite smile on my face as we made our way to our table. The waitress went over the drink specials and almost instantly Ty spoke up and ordered me water. I rolled my eyes as a smile tugged on my lips. He was a worrier and controlling. "Now, my dear, would you care to explain why last I saw you there wasn't that lovely accessory to your arm?" His words were sharp. I lost my breath as I made eye contact with him. He was angry, to say the least. I forgot I had to talk about that. "I haven't had the chance to unpack everything", I told him honestly. He only nods in my direction as our waitress puts down the bread basket. I take a moment to gather my thoughts as he orders. "I'll need to explain better after I've had some time with my shrink but the short story is; my father cheated on my mother and I was the product of that. My real mother was bullied into giving me up and stepmother dearest hates me because of the whole situation." I stated after taking a bite of the buttered bread he put on my plate. I hadn't eaten in hours and while I wasn't hungry I knew if Ty didn't see me eat it would upset him. He breathed out loudly before grabbing my face and making me look at him. "That's a lot. How are you holding up?" I shook my head at his question. "The women who raised me pushed me hard enough to sprain my wrist. The doctor stated if I hadn't partially twisted when I fell it would have snapped. I don't know how to handle those emotions. Right now I am just existing", I told him. Munching on more bread. "Your family sucks", he exclaims after a while of silence. I chuckle but nod anyway. "My father and brother for once stuck up for me. My sister was more worried about herself, like usual. I think I will one day try to work it out with them. Those other two probably not", I shrug as my meal is placed in front of me. My earlier reluctance was gone as the bread helped settle my stomach. "Far in the future. Hopefully, when I don't want to punch both of them" he smirked. I cut into my steak amused. My amusement flees when I look up to see Ryan's lawyer walking towards us. I can never just have a peaceful night.
