Chapter 66

2206 Words

Upon knowing of Jane's death—right after he went to Amelia two days ago—he ordered George to find out where Jane is currently at. It has come to his attention that the poor woman is on a rented lodging in the town proper. The Vernice's did not even arrange a wake for her and he does not understand why Amelia did not do something when they were so close. She was her Abigail, someone closer than anyone else. Jane has a sister and, quite frankly, does not know what to do since she is in a disarray and a child so to say. Therefore, he had George prepare the Salvatore chapel and give the handmaiden a proper wake. It was not his obligation, it should have been the Vernice's but they have abandoned the woman so he had to do something. He does not know why the Vernice's are doing such a cruel act
